3640. David Laurense* ACKERMAN
(805)
(799)(800)
(801)(806) was born on 24 Jan
1616 in Oss, Noord Brabant, Netherlands.(807)
He died about 14 Nov 1662 in At Sea. On way to America aboard "D'
Vos," the "Fox" near New York (or shortly after arrival) near
the New York City shoreline. David Ackerman came from the Dutch village of Oss,
and was over 20 years old when he announced he would marry Lysbeth Bellier from
Dordrecht. The marriage certificate was issued 16Sep1641. There was an indication
on that certificate that he was in the military. After their marriage David
and Lysbeth lived several years in Den Bosch, then moved to Oss. They were members
of the Reformed Church in Geffen. He was listed on the church rolls as a schoolmaster
and church warden. They then moved to the village of Berlicum after 1653. On
02Sep1662, David and his family left for the New World on D'Vos (Fox) ship.
He was probably recruited to go to New Netherlands due to chronic shortages of
church ministers and officials there. The ship sailed from Patria and arrived
in New Amsterdam 14Nov1662. Unfortunately, David did not see much of the New
World, as he was drowned near the shore of New Amsterdam. His wife was a widow
when she joined the Dutch Reformed Church in New Amsterdam in Jan1663. The family
lived on what is now Whitchall Street, where she operated a tavern. She remarried
in 1668 to Kier Wolthers and moved to Harlem, where she died a few months later.
Website <http://www.crocker.com/~jcamp/da.html> lists as David's parents
Hans/Johannes Ackerman (son of Laurense Ackerman and Hester) and Maria Liesflet
(dtr of François Liesfelt).
He was married to Lysbet\Elisabeth* BELLIER on 16 Sep 1641 in Hertogenbosch/Den
Bosch, Noord Brabant, Netherlands. David and his family resided in Berlicum,
North Brabant, Holland. He emigrated and arrived in New Netherlands aboard the
ship Vos on 2 September 1662 with his wife and six children aged 20, 18, 16,
12, 8, and 6 years old. David died either at sea or shortly after his arrival,
but definitely by 06Jan1663 when his wife Elizabeth and their oldest child, Anneken,
joined the Church in New Amsterdam. Elizabeth was a resourceful, hard working
woman and raised these children on her own, on what was later Whitehall Street,
New York City. Lisbet served beer and some food, and traded a few beaver pelts
to make money. She didn't remarry until 29Jan1668, at the age of 52, to Kier
Wouters. She and her boys moved to Harlem, just north of New York City, to his
farm where she died a couple of months later.
