First Generation
1. John W FRANKLIN SR 1 was born 2 about 1780 in South Carolina. He died before 26 Mar 1859 in Lincoln Co., TN.
John Franklin's estate sale took place March 26, 1859. He must not have left a will because between 1860 and 1883 several lawsuits were filed in Lincoln Co. against William Franklin, Administrator and the other brothers and sisters, lead by their brother Hiram.
This is another note from another record I have:
According to the 1850 census John Jr. was 33 and was born in TN.. Anna was born circa 1814 in SC therefore John Sr. and his family moved to TN after 1814. In September of 1816 John Sr. purchased land from the Frances McCowan estate at the headwaters of Coldwater Creek. In 1823 he purchased land from Thomas Blair, 38 1/2 acres of land lying on the head waters of Coldwater Creek, a south branch of Elk River.
John married Unknown FLETCHER about 1800 in South Carolina. Unknown was born in South Carolina.
Hiram's son James Fletcher Franklin was named for one of the female ancestors, according to a granddaughter of Hiram. That is why we assume that John W SR. was married to a Fletcher.
John and Unknown had the following children:
2 F i Mary FRANKLIN was born in 1800 in South Carolina. She died before 1880 in Arkansas. Mary married Unknown in Unknown. + 3 M ii James FRANKLIN + 4 M iii William FRANKLIN + 5 F iv Jane FRANKLIN + 6 F v Anna FRANKLIN 7 F vi Unknown FRANKLIN was born in 1816 in South Carolina.
The name of this child is unknown but due to the census of 1820 John had 3 females under the age of 10 so there is another daughter. This is that daughter and she had to be born between 1810 and 1820 and I assume that it is 1816 due to the way the dates of birth run. Her name is possibly Sarah+ 8 M vii John W FRANKLIN JR + 9 M viii James Thomas FRANKLIN + 10 F ix Frances FRANKLIN + 11 M x Hiram FRANKLIN 12 M xi Wesley FRANKLIN was born in 1825 in TN.
In 1856 they were living in TX.Wesley married Eliza Jane McCARVER on 9 Jan 1850.
