THE ZUBER FAMILY

Bartholomew Christina had the following children:

1.      Anna Maria ZUBER was born on April 23, 1847 in Germany and was christened on April 27, 1847in Evangelische Kirche (Evangelical Church), Handschuhsheim Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Baden, Germany. No further information is currently known on her except that she is listed on the ship's list and appeared on the 1860 census in Bartholomew's family. (However, since his second family also named a daughter Mary and she is not mentioned in her father's will, speculation would be that she died young.)

2.      **John  ZUBER.  (see below)

3.      Harmon ZUBER was born July 2, 1855 in Ohio.  He was married to Louisa F MANHARDT. Louisa MANHARDT was born on August 18, 1859 in Germany.  She died on December 16, 1916 in Allen County, Ohio.  Harmon died of chronic myocarditis and arteriosclerosis on March 29,1944 in Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio.  Harmon and Louisa had the following children:  Frederick Voldean ZUBER, August H (Gusta) ZUBER, and Laura ZUBER.

Bartholomew was married to Mary "Magdalene" BISHOP on April 8, 1862 in Marion County, Ohio by Rev. E. Kornbaum. Mary "Magdalene" BISHOP was born on February 23, 1840. 

Bartholomew ZUBER and Mary "Magdalene" BISHOP had the following children:

1.      Christena ZUBER was born March 1, 1863 in Logan Township, Auglaize County, Ohio. She was married to John William FOX (son of Frederick William and Mary C FOX) on February 14, 1885. John William FOX was born on October 20, 1856. Christena died of cancer on July 10, 1921 in Auglaize County, Ohio.  John died on April 4, 1924 in Auglaize County, Ohio.  Both were buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio.  Christine ZUBER and John William FOX had the following children:  Tessie May FOX, Bertha Ola FOX, Frederick "William" FOX, Jacob S FOX, and Edith Ilo FOX.

3.  Magdalena (Lena) ZUBER was born on January 20, 1868 in Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio. She had one son, Robert Oliver Zuber, prior to marrying John Allen WOLFF (son of Daniel WOLF and Lorene FOX) about 1887.  John Allen WOLFF was born August 10, 1865 in Allen County, Ohio. Lena died of chronic myocarditis on June 13, 1934 in Perry Township, Allen County, Ohio.  John died of cardiac insufficiency on October 13, 1937 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio.  The had the following children:  Clarence Francis WOLFF, Louisa WOLFF, Russell WOLFF, Bessie WOLFF, Daisy Almeda WOLFF, John J WOLFF, Edna A WOLFF, Mary G WOLFF, Charles R WOLFF, Margaret S WOLFF, Laura E WOLFF, and Leota "Kathryn" WOLFF.

4.      Louise ZUBER and was born in August 1871 in Ohio.  She was married to Rev John Wesley HODGE (son of Ransom Wilson HODGE and Sarah Ann NOLAND ) on April 29, 1896 in Allen County, Ohio. John Wesley HODGE was born on October 6, 1860 in Maplewood, Shelby County, Ohio. Louise died in 1937.  She was buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio.  John died of pernicious anemia on December 20, 1917 in Fort Recovery, Mercer County, Ohio.  Louise ZUBER and John Wesley HODGE had the following children:  Paul Z HODGE, Emerson G HODGE, Ralph Rosebrough HODGE, and Frank Nolan HODGE.

5.      Jacob ZUBER was born September 10, 1873 in Ohio.  He was married to Anna Viola MCCLURE (John Patterson MCCLURE and Lovina BRENTLINER) on April 5, 1894, in Auglaize County, Ohio. Anna Viola MCCLURE was born about 1876. Jacob worked at Lima Hamilton Corp.  He died of pneumonia on February 29, 1948 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio.  Anna died of a heart attack on June 9, 1956 in Allen County, Ohio.  Both were buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio. Jacob ZUBER and Anna Viola MCCLURE had the following children:  Cleo Orval ZUBER, Gwendolyn P ZUBER, Rose Ella ZUBER, and a Son ZUBER.

Bartholomew's family appeared on the census in 1860 in Logan Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, Household #507.  They evidently moved to Iowa for a few years and can be found in the 1870 Amana Township, Iowa County, Iowa, Household #80, Family #124.  They must have then come back to Ohio as they can be found in the 1880 Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio, Household #157.

Bartholomew died of Bright's Disease on January 29, 1895 in Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio. His will was dated September 21, 1894 and was probated February 16, 1895  in Allen County, Ohio.  In it he mentions his surviving seven children (Anna Maria is not mentioned). 

After Bartholomew's death, Magdalene appeared on the census in:

·         1900 in Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio, Household #117

·         1910 in Allen County, Ohio, ED #0045, Visit #0047 living with stepson John

·         1920 in Shawnee township, Allen County, Ohio, Household #218 living alone

Magdalena died on February 17, 1930 in Roann, Indiana, at her daughter Mary Baber's house.  Both Magdalena and Bartholomew were buried in German Zion Cemetery, Auglaize County, Ohio.

Sarah died on October 19, 1925 in Allen County, Ohio. John died of nephritis on February 17, 1928 in Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in Fort Amanda Cemetery, Auglaize County, Ohio.  John and Sarah's children included:

1.      Mary Ellen (Ellie) ZUBER was born on April 25, 1874. She died on August 18, 1878 at the age of 4 years, 3 months, 24 days. She was buried in Mack Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio. 

2.      Louise Elizabeth ZUBER was born on August 25, 1875 in Auglaize County, Ohio. She was married to Clement "Marion" BOWERSOCK about 1893. Clement "Marion" BOWERSOCK was born June 16, 1869 in Ohio.  She died of basal hemorrhage on March 23, 1938 in Allen County, Ohio. He died on January 21, 1942 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Cridersville, Allen County, Ohio. Louise Elizabeth ZUBER and Clement "Marion" BOWERSOCK had the following children:  Ethan "Lloyd" BOWERSOCK, Roy E BOWERSOCK, Beatrice Marie BOWERSOCK, Cloyd E BOWERSOCK, Elizabeth C BOWERSOCK, and John C BOWERSOCK.

4.      George William ZUBER was born on September 15, 1879 in Allen County, Ohio. He was married first to Alma M KELLER (daughter of Frank H KELLER and Louise N DERBRYKE) on November 28, 1910. Alma M KELLER was born on November 22, 1885 in Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio. She died of exhaustion due to pulmonary tuberculosis on October 24, 1922 in Allen County, Ohio. She was buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio.  He was married second to Margaret ARONHOLT (daughter of John ARONHOLT and Alma HOOVER) on April 11, 1923. Margaret ARONHOLT was born on July 26, 1890 in Adams County, Indiana. She died on June 18, 1973 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. She was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio.  George died on August 15, 1959 in Allen County, Ohio. He was buried in Shawnee Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio.  Margaret had a couple children from her first marriage.  George had no children from either marriage.

5.      Harman Bartholomew ZUBER was born on January 26, 1881 in Allen County, Ohio. He died on February 28, 1906. He was buried in Fort Amanda Cemetery, Auglaize County, Ohio. 

6.      Sarah Cristena ZUBER was born on December 1, 1882 in Allen County, Ohio. She died on December 19, 1960 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio. She was married to Jacob Elza SHAFFER between 1900 and 1905. Jacob Elza SHAFFER was born about 1882 in Champaign County, Ohio. He died on April 30, 1958 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Allen County, Ohio.  They had one child, Norman E SHAFFER.

7.      Edward Homer ZUBER was born on December 20, 1884 in Allen County, Ohio. He was married to Bertha Mae ROBERTS (daughter of Francis M ROBERTS and Emma ROUSH) on December 23, 1908, in Allen County, Ohio. Bertha Mae ROBERTS was born on November 21, 1882 in Allen County, Ohio. Edward died on September 15, 1965 in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio.  He was buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio. Bertha died on May 10, 1977 in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio. She was buried in Hueston Cemetery, Hardin County, Ohio. Edward and Bertha's children included Eugene Roberts ZUBER, Emma Ann ZUBER, and Donald Edward ZUBER.

8.      Quinn Earl ZUBER was born on October 16, 1886 in Allen County, Ohio. He was married to Almira (Myra) Effa NEFF (daughter of John C NEFF and Abila ZERKEL) on September 24, 1911. Almira (Myra) Effa NEFF was born on May 16, 1889 in Auglaize County, Ohio. Quinn died on August 17, 1962 in Wapakoneta, Auglaize County, Ohio. Myra died on March 10, 1977 in Auglaize County, Ohio. Both were buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio.  Their children included Pauline Zuber and Cleta V Zuber.

9.      Infant Girl ZUBER was stillborn on 29 Jul 1888 in Allen County, Ohio.

10.  Jacob Elluloid ZUBER was born on August 14, 1887 in Allen County, Ohio. He was married to Estella FANTZ (daughter of Absolom FANTZ and Elizabeth FRASURE) about 1910. Estella FANTZ was born June 7, 1883 in Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio. She died of chronic myocarditis on January 22, 1945 in Allen County, Ohio. She was buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio.  Jacob died on August 11, 1970 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. He was buried in Fort Amanda Cemetery, Auglaize County, Ohio. They had no children.

11.  Iona Ruth ZUBER was born on November 20, 1894 in Allen County, Ohio. She was married to Franklin THOMAS (son of Elijah THOMAS and Mary Catherine MILLER) on April 23, 1915. Frank THOMAS was born on October 21, 1892 in Allen County, Ohio. He died on May 23, 1974 in Spencerville, Allen County, Ohio. Iona died on August 13, 1986 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio.  Their children included Leroy Earl Thomas, Ralph Franklin Thomas, Naomi R Thomas and Evelyn Mae Thomas.

**John Peter ZUBER was born on March 8, 1878 in Shawnee Township, Allen County, Ohio. He was married first to Janetta BOWSHER (daughter of Jacob L BOWSHER and Esther Salena CRITES) on June 4, 1902. Janetta BOWSHER was born on July 5, 1875 in Adolphia, Ross County, Ohio. She died on June 19, 1904.  They had one child, Harold ZUBER, who only lived a few months.  John was married second to Sarah "Florence" CUTRIGHT (daughter of Elijah CUTRIGHT and Elizabeth BARCLAY) on February 14, 1906. Florence CUTRIGHT was born on February 24, 1870 in Ross County, Ohio. She died on April 4, 1907 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. John and Florence had one child, Kenneth Elijah ZUBER.  John was married third to **Susanna Jane ROBERTS (daughter of Francis Marion ROBERTS and Emma ROUSH) on September 2, 1908 in Allen County, Ohio. Susanna Jane ROBERTS was born on December 8, 1880 in Allen County, Ohio. She died on July 10, 1952 in Allen County, Ohio. She was buried on July 13, 1952 in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Route 309 and Ridge Road, Allen County, Ohio.  John and Susanna's children included:

John was married fourth to Hannah DEFENBAUGH on November 10, 1953. They were separated at the time of his death.  Hannah DEFENBAUGH was born about 1882. She died on April 8, 1970 in Leisure Oaks Nursing Home. She was buried on April 11, 1970 in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio.  John died on April 17, 1969 in Spencerville, Allen County, Ohio. He was buried on April 20, 1969 in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Route 309 and Ridge Road, Allen County, Ohio, with his third wife, Susanna.
