THE ROBERTS FAMILY

**Sylvester ROBERTS was born in 1797 in Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA. He was a farmer. He moved to Cortland, New York, then Trumbull County, Ohio, and eventually Putnam and Allen County, Ohio. He was married three times and it is said he had nine children by each of the first two wives and none with the third. He appeared on the census in

Sylvester was married to Charity LEWIS before 1820. Charity LEWIS died about 1833 in Trumbull County, Ohio, USA. Sylvester ROBERTS and Charity LEWIS had the following children:

2. Minerva ROBERTS was born in April 1820 in Cincinnatus, Cortland County, New York, USA. She was married to Amasa Bigelow DURKEE on April 17, 1834 in Trumbull County, Ohio, USA.  He was born January 11, 1811 in Williamstown, Orange County, Vermont, USA.  Minerva died August 4, 1890 in Beaverdam, Allen County, Ohio, USA.  Amasa died on June 1, 1895 in Richland Township, Allen County, Ohio, USA.  Minerva and Amasa had the following known children:  Seth DURKEE.
3. George Washington ROBERTS was born on March 16, 1824 in New York and died on July 27, 1912 in Allen County, Ohio, USA.
4. Harriet ROBERTS was born between 1820 and 1825 in New York, USA.
5. Lewis Freeman ROBERTS was born on June 3, 1827. One source lists his birthplace as New York while another lists Vermont. The census alternately lists his birthplace as Ohio and New York.  Lewis was a farmer. He was married to Elizabeth Martha RUMBAUGH (daughter of William RUMBAUGH and Anna ALDRIDGE ) on April 18, 1850 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, by Anson M Hadsell, JP. Elizabeth Martha RUMBAUGH was born on 3 October 1826.  Lewis died on February 27, 1910 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Lewis Freeman ROBERTS and Elizabeth Martha RUMBAUGH had the following children: Samuel ROBERTS, Electa ROBERTS, Lafayette ROBERTS, Roxanna ROBERTS, Sylvester ROBERTS, Lewis Freeman ROBERTS Jr, Albert F ROBERTS, and Elizabeth ROBERTS.
6. Mary Jane ROBERTS was born on February 10, 1831 in New York, USA. She was married to Benjamin R RUMBAUGH (son of William RUMBAUGH and Anna ALDRIDGE ) on August 27, 1851 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA by R M Badeau. Benjamin R RUMBAUGH was born on 21 Apr 1825 in Greene County, Ohio, USA. He served in the Civil War 151st Reg, Co C, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He died on 4 Mar 1904 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. He was buried in Ward Cemetery, Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Mary Jane died on 20 Jan 1909 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. She was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, Auglaize County, Ohio, USA. Mary Jane ROBERTS and Benjamin R RUMBAUGH had the following children: Uriah R RUMBAUGH, Martha M RUMBAUGH, Ann Eliza RUMBAUGH, Scott T RUMBAUGH, Lake Erie RUMBAUGH, and Jason RUMBAUGH.
7. Charity ROBERTS was born on March 16, 1833 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Freeman YOUNG on March 31, 1853 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Freeman YOUNG was born in 1829 in Ohio, USA. Charity died on November 17, 1894. Freeman died on October 28, 1907 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Both were buried in Beaverdam, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Charity ROBERTS and Freeman YOUNG had the following children: Wilson YOUNG, George Washington YOUNG, Emma YOUNG, Alfred J YOUNG and Merritt Eugene YOUNG.

He was married to Lydia Marie COLE about 1833. Lydia Marie COLE  was born about 1807 in New Jersey, USA.  She died before 1860. Sylvester ROBERTS and Lydia Marie COLE had the following children:

1. Margaret Ann ROBERTS was born about 1833.  She was married to George SHIPLEY on May 31, 1863 in Allen County, Ohio, USA.
2. William D ROBERTS was born about 1840. 
3. Caroline ROBERTS was born about 1844. She was married to James THOMPSON.
4. Hiram A ROBERTS was born about 1846.

He was married to Sarah UNKNOWN between 1850 and 1860.

**Joseph "Warren" ROBERTS was born about 1820 in New York, USA the son of Sylvester Roberts and Charity Lewis.  He appeared on the census in 1850 as household #526 in Jackson Township, Allen County, Ohio, USA. 

He was married to Lydia EDGECOMB (daughter of Uriah EDGECOMB and Elizabeth (Betsy) DOUD ) on November 15, 1840 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, by Anson M Hadsell, JP. Lydia EDGECOMB was born about 1824 in Ohio, USA. She died before 1843.  Warren ROBERTS and Lydia EDGECOMB had the following children:

1. Lydia ROBERTS was born about 1841.  Nothing more is currently known about her.

He was married to Mary A RUMBAUGH (daughter of William RUMBAUGH and Anna ALDRIDGE ) on November 9, 1843 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, by John Alexander, JP. Mary A RUMBAUGH was born on August 2, 1823 in Greene County, Ohio, USA.

Warren ROBERTS and Mary A RUMBAUGH had the following children:

1. William S ROBERTS was born about 1845. He died in Indiana after serving almost five years in the Civil War.
2. George W ROBERTS was born in 1846. He died in Nashville, Bedford County, Tennessee, USA, in the Army.
3. Milo Warren ROBERTS was born January 16, 1847 in Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio, USA. He was married to Emma R HADSELL (daughter of Anson M HADSELL and Adeline THAYER) on August 13, 1868 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Emma R HADSELL was born December 9, 1845 in Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio, USA.  Milo was a mechanic.  Emma died on October 28, 1913 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Milo died on December 8, 1936 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Both were buried in Bluelick Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio, USA.  They had one son - Laurel Worth ROBERTS and one daughter - Dora Alice ROBERTS.
4. Hannah (Anna) Jane ROBERTS was born about 1849. She died before 1906.

6. Warren W (Wash) ROBERTS

Warren died in 1853 in Allen County, Ohio.  After his death, Mary married Daniel France and moved to Kansas where she was living when she died on December 28, 1898 in Jefferson County, Kansas. She was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Douglas County, Kansas.

**Francis Marion (Frank) ROBERTS was born on October 8, 1851 in Allen County, Ohio, USA.   He was a farmer and occasional carpenter.  He was married to Emma ROUSH (daughter of Henry ROUSH and Susannah WINEGARDNER ) on February 25, 1872 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Emma ROUSH was born on May 7, 1850 in Miffintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, USA. Francis' family moved to Kansas about 1877 and farmed there about two and a half years before moving back to remain in Ohio. He appeared on the census in

Francis died on August 29, 1927. Emma appeared on the census in 1930 in Ottawa Township, Allen County, Ohio, Household #374 - living with son Oliver and family. She died on January 28, 1940 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Francis and Emma were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Section 8, lot 33. Francis M ROBERTS and Emma ROUSH had the following children:

1. Charles M ROBERTS was born on December 6, 1872 in Allen County, Ohio. He served in the Spanish American War. Charles was married to Lenna L JAGGER on November 11, 1903 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Lenna L JAGGER was born on October 8, 1875 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA. She died on November 7, 1924. She was buried in Rockport Methodist Church Cemetery, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Charles died on February 6, 1963 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. He was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Charles M ROBERTS and Lenna L JAGGER had one known child - Emma Lucille ROBERTS.
2. Alminta ROBERTS was born on August 8, 1874 in Bath Township, Allen County, Ohio. She was married to Emmett FISHER (son of James M FISHER and Rachel NASH) on September 8, 1894. Emmett FISHER was born on August 27, 1866. He died on September 19, 1942 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. She died on July 25, 1965 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Both were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio. Alminta ROBERTS and Emmett FISHER had the following children: Harold Winton FISHER, Margaret Helen FISHER, and Grace Alminta FISHER.
3. Margaret Jane (Maggie) ROBERTS was born on January 26, 1876 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Frank BEERY (son of John W BEERY and Jane MILLER) on October 24, 1901. Frank BEERY was born October 8, 1877. Maggie died on February 1, 1903 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Frank re-married after Margaret's death to a woman named Jennie Mae and had four sons with her. He died on September 10, 1945 in New Carlisle, Clark County, Ohio, and was buried in New Carlisle, Clark County, Ohio, USA. Margaret Jane (Maggie) ROBERTS and Frank BEERY had one known child - Eugene F BEERY.
4. Francis "Ephraim" ROBERTS was born on  January 16, 1878. He was married to Jennie ANDERSON in 1913 in Oregon, USA. Jennie ANDERSON was born on January 30, 1892 in Washington, USA. Francis "Ephraim" ROBERTS and Jennie ANDERSON had the following children:  Elva Lorene ROBERTS, Esther May ROBERTS, and Raymond Francis ROBERTS.

6. Bertha Mae ROBERTS was born on November 21, 1882 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Edward Homer ZUBER (son of John ZUBER and Sarah Ann LOTZ/LUTZ) on December 23, 1908 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. Edward Homer ZUBER was born on December 20, 1884 in Allen County, Ohio. He died on  September 15, 1965 in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio, USA. He was buried in St Matthews Cemetery, Hume Road, Cridersville, Auglaize County, Ohio, USA. Bertha died on May 10, 1977 in Fostoria, Seneca County, Ohio.  She was buried in Hueston Cemetery, Forest, Hardin County, Ohio. Bertha Mae ROBERTS and Edward Homer ZUBER had the following children: Eugene Roberts ZUBER, Emma Ann ZUBER, and Donald Edward ZUBER.
7. Cora Pearl ROBERTS was born on August 2, 1885 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Edward J RADER on November 6, 1912. She was divorced from Edward J RADER on September 19, 1921. She was married to Charles CORNELIUS on December 4, 1924. Charles CORNELIUS was born on December 4, 1881 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, USA. She died on July 25, 1959 in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, USA. She was buried in Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, USA. No children from either marriage.
8. William Theodore ROBERTS was born on March 19, 1888. He was married to Effie MILLER in 1909. Effie MILLER was born in March 1890. She died on April 2, 1937 in LaVerne, Los Angeles County, California. William Theodore ROBERTS and Effie MILLER had the following children: Edith M ROBERTS and Maynard L ROBERTS. William was married second to Fern KOOGLER in 1938. Fern KOOGLER died on 1 Jun 1973. No children. William died on 1 Jun 1973 in LaVerne, Los Angeles County, California, USA.
9. Oliver Ray ROBERTS was born on October 22, 1890 in Allen County, Ohio. He was married to Hazel ENGLE (daughter of George W ENGLE and Arvilla WELKER) on June 16, 1915. Hazel ENGLE was born on December 18, 1889 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA. She died on February 11, 1993 in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio, USA. Oliver died on May 18, 1981 in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio. Oliver Ray ROBERTS and Hazel ENGLE had the following children: Erdine ROBERTS and Janet Ruth ROBERTS.
10. Ruth Lorene ROBERTS was born on July 14, 1893 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Virgil PUGH in 1917. Virgil PUGH was born about 1895. Ruth died on May 14, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA. Virgil died on December 15, 1940 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lima, Allen County, Ohio, USA. Ruth Lorene ROBERTS and Virgil PUGH had the following children: Mary Elizabeth PUGH, Gladys Marie PUGH, and Charles Virgil PUGH.
11. Gertrude M ROBERTS was born on Julu 19, 1895 in Allen County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Ernest Granville GARDNER in 1923/24. Ernest GARDNER was born about 1889 in Allen County, Ohio. They were living in Adrian, Michigan in 1940, in Riverdale, Maryland in 1961, and in Oregon in 1975. He died on April 18, 1961 in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California. Gertrude died on June 19, 1983. Gertrude M ROBERTS and Ernest Granville GARDNER had the following children: Robert GARDNER and William GARDNER.
