Here is a brief beginning to our family history.
My family's line of descent is marked with a **.
Our Leppard name is seen as spelled many different
ways - Leopard, LePard, Leppard. The family as we know it was from
Ontario, Canada. We do not know the ancestors beyond:

Abraham Jerry LEPPARD. He was married to Charlotte
FENTON. Abraham died on 5 February 1884 in Pine River Township,
Gratiot County, Michigan, USA. Abraham Jerry LEPPARD and Charlotte
FENTON had the following children:
- Jerry LEPPARD
was born in July 1848. The Michigan state archives contains a
certificate of declaration of intent for naturalization signed by
Jerry in Ithaca, MI on February 13, 1894.
- Martha Jane
LEPPARD was born on 1 September 1851 in Gillesburg, Ontario,
Canada, the daughter of Abraham and Charlotte (Fenton) Leppard. The
1871 Ontario Census states her origin as Dutch, but born in Ontario.
She was married to Thomas Charles Harrison COLBRY (son of Robert
Joseph Harrison COLBRY Sr and Hannah KNUDSEN) on 9 November 1870 by
John Frich, Minister.
Thomas Charles Harrison COLBRY
was born on 21 January 1851 in Barrie, Simcoe County, Ontario,
Canada. About four years after marrying they moved to Michigan,
taking up their residence on the farm where they remained the rest of
their lives and passed away. According to family lore, Thomas was
the first white settler in Gratiot County, MI -- bought land from an
Indian chief who was later buried near his land . Thomas was
naturalized on 19 October 1888 in Gratiot County, Michigan, USA. The
family appeared in the Bethany Township, Gratiot County, Michigan,
USA census in 1880, 1900 (Household #72), 1910 (Household #58), and
1920 (Household #148). They had a total of ten children. Martha
died on 25 January 1924 in Bethany Township, Gratiot County,
Michigan, USA at home of apoplexy. Her obituary stated “Mrs. Colbry
was a true Christian……. . She was known by all as an affectionate
wife, a loving mother and a kind and helpful neighbor. She was well
known throughout Gratiot county, having lived for over fifty years on
the same farm, and was loved by all.” Thomas died on 9 January 1941
in St Louis, Gratiot County, Michigan, USA of a heart attack. Both
were buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan, USA.
See the Colbry home page for more information on Thomas and Martha
