Henry GUFFY was born about 1760.  It is believed Henry may be a child of James and Margaret (Kearn) Guffey, but this has yet to be proven.  He was married to Margaret "Jane" MCDOWELL.  Henry died in Kentucky, USA when killed by Indians.  Henry and Jane had the following children:

2. Henry GUFFY was born about 1784.  He died in 1812/13 in Indiana, USA, killed by Indians.
3. Margaret GUFFY was born about 1785.  She was married to James LAFFERTY on 10 March 1807 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  James LAFFERTY was born about 1785.

John McDowell GUFFY was born on 22 December 1782.  John served in the War of 1812 in the Second Ohio Militia in Jas Taylor’s Company.  County history states that John came to Putnam County, Ohio in 1820 and entered a tract of land in Sugar Creek Township, but did not come to permanently reside until 1831 when he gained additional land where he made his home until his death.  Of his land, forty acres were obtained with a warrant granted him for services in the War of 1812.  This tract was increased to three hundred and four acres, as well as one hundred and twenty acres in Kansas that he owned.  The Ottawa River Church in Rimer, Ohio was built on land that was donated by John in 1862.  John was married to Pamela PUNTENNEY about 1804.  Pamela PUNTENNEY was born about 1788 in Greene County, Ohio, USA.  She died before 1810 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  John McDowell GUFFY and Pamela PUNTENNEY had the following children:

1. Isaac GUFFY was born on 22 November 1806 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  He was married first to Elizabeth DAVIDSON on 17 February 1829 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA by John Swisher, JP.  The family appeared on the census in 1850 in Sugar Creek Township, Allen County, Ohio, USA (Household #66).  Isaac GUFFY and Elizabeth DAVIDSON had the following children:  William GUFFY, Catherine GUFFY, John D GUFFY, Martha GUFFY, Nancy Jane GUFFY, Sulinna GUFFY, and Isaac M GUFFY.   Isaac was married second to Elizabeth J MCCLANE (daughter of George William MCCLANE and Margaret A Elizabeth FLEM(M)ING) on 5 May 1853 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Elizabeth J MCCLANE was born about 1826 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  She died in Chanute, Neosho County, Kansas, USA.  Isaac and Elizabeth had one known child - Elizabeth Jane GUFFY.  Isaac died on 2 February 1885 in Kansas, USA.
2. William GUFFY was born on 22 November 1806 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  He was married to MaryAnn T JACOBS (daughter of Samuel R JACOBS and Elizabeth TURNER) on 27 March 1834 in Allen County, Ohio, USA.  MaryAnn T JACOBS was born on 18 August 1817 in Champaign County, Ohio, USA.  The family appeared on the census in Sugar Creek Township, Putnam County, Ohio, USA in 1850 (Household #94), 1860 (Household #358) and in 1870 (Household #19).  MaryAnn died on 8 November 1864 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  William died on 2 October 1899 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Both were buried in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  William GUFFY and MaryAnn T JACOBS had the following children - Samuel R GUFFY, Isaac M GUFFY, Elizabeth J GUFFY, Alexander GUFFY, Mary "Annetta" GUFFY, George W GUFFY, James John GUFFY,  Sarah M GUFFY, Louise "Alice" GUFFY, and Martha E GUFFY. 

John McDowell GUFFY and Elizabeth SWORDEN had a child - 

1. John M GUFFY was born on 26 August 1810 in Madison Township, Franklin County, Ohio.  He was married to Pamelia Courtright about 1829.  Pamelia Courtright was born about 1812.  She died 13 September 1869 in Franklin County, Ohio.  John died after 1874.  John and Pamelia had the following known children:  Richard C Guffy, John G Guffy, Cyrus McGuffy, Bela L Guffy, Gustavus Guffy, Samuel Guffy, Sarah E Guffy, Minerva Guffy, and Pamelia Guffy.

John was married to Nancy Ann PENNINGTON on 27 November 1810 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA by Billingslea Bull, JP.  Nancy Ann PENNINGTON was born on 31 March 1785.   John and Nancy had the following children:

1. Margaret (Jane?) GUFFY was born on 20 April 1811 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA. She was married to Samuel PARKER on 21 July 1836 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Samuel PARKER was born about 1810.  She died before 1896.
2. Henry GUFFY was born on 6 January 1813 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  He was married to Almira BURCH on 10 December 1835 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Almira BURCH was born in July 1818 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  The family appeared on the census in 1840 in Union Township, Putnam County, Ohio and in 1850 in Sugar Creek Township, Putnam County, Ohio, (Household #74).  Almira died on 21 August 1860 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Henry died on 13 September 1854 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Both were buried in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Henry and Almira had the following children - Nancy GUFFY (died in infancy), Sanford C GUFFY, Sarah Jane GUFFY, Angeline GUFFY, Elizabeth GUFFY, and Nancy GUFFY.
3. Aquilla GUFFY was born on 23 November 1814 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  He was married to Jerusha Ann Kibbey FORD (daughter of Joseph Richard FORD and Phebe KIBBEY) on 1 October 1838 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Jerusha Ann Kibbey FORD was born on 2 June 1821 in Warren County, Ohio, USA.  The family appeared on the census in in 1840 in Union Township, Putnam County, Ohio, in Sugar Creek Township, Putnam County, Ohio, in 1850 (Household #90) and 1860 (Household #389).  Aquilla died on 4 April 1862 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  He was buried in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Jerusha moved with children to Kansas.  She died on 17 December 1912 in Oneida, Nemaha County, Kansas, USA and was buried in Ford Cemetery, Nemaha County, Kansas, USA.   Aquilla and Jerusha had the following children - Joseph GUFFY, Nancy Jane GUFFY, Phebe Ann GUFFY, Sarah Lucinda GUFFY, John GUFFY, Mary Marinda GUFFY, and Rosa E GUFFY.
4. John "Joseph" GUFFY was born on 28 October 1816 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  He died as a young man on 17 October 1835 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  He was killed by a falling tree.  He was the first person buried in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.
5. Jane (McGuffey) GUFFY was born on 21 January 1819 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to James MCKINLEY (son of Alexander MCKINLEY and Anna MORRISON) on 19 March 1840 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  James MCKINLEY was born in 1811 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA.  The family appeared on the census in 1870 in Sugar Creek Township, Putnam County, Ohio, USA (Household 10).  James died in Kalida, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Jane died on 2 April 1893.  Jane and James had the following children - John A MCKINLEY, Infant Son MCKINLEY, James MCKINLEY, Infant Son MCKINLEY, Infant MCKINLEY, Samuel N MCKINLEY, Nancy Ann MCKINLEY, Emily J MCKINLEY, Sarah E MCKINLEY, and Mary E MCKINLEY.
6. Nancy GUFFY was born on 8 May 1821 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.
7. Sarah GUFFY was born on 3 May 1823 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to Jacob RHODES on 19 December 1850 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Jacob RHODES was born 24 May 1818 in Franklin County, Ohio.  He died on 19 August 1885 in Putnam County, Ohio.  Sarah and Jacob had the following children - George RHODES and Emma Jane RHODES. 
8. Nelson P GUFFY was born on 15 February 1827 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  He died in Michigan, USA.
9. Elizabeth GUFFY was born on 20 February 1830 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.  She was married to William Fleming MCCLANE (son of George William MCCLANE and Margaret A Elizabeth FLEMING) on 11 January 1855 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  William Fleming MCCLANE was born on 24 October 1828 in Franklin County, Ohio, USA.   Elizabeth died on 31 March 1912 at the McClane Homestead, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  William died on 9 October 1918 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  Both were buried in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  For more on their family and descendants, see the McClane Family home page.

Nancy died on 25 July 1859 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  John died on 1 July 1874 in Putnam County, Ohio, USA.  A Putnam County history stated that “He had risen to be a gentleman of considerable importance in his township and county, and died a greatly respected and honored man.”  John and Nancy were buried in Ottawa River Cemetery, Rimer, Putnam County, Ohio, USA.
