Here is a brief beginning to our family history.
My family's line of descent is marked with a **.
The Dinsmore family comes from Scotland. The name
over the years has been recorded as Dunsmoor, Dunmore, Dunsmore, Densmore,
Densmoor, Dinsmoor, and more commonly Dinsmorr and Dinsmore. The first
known ancestor of our line was Laird John Dinsmoor born somewhere around
1600. Our line then continues through John, Robert, and Samuel before we
begin with our American ancestry:

William DINSMORE
Sr was born about 1785/1786 in Ballywattik, Ballymoney, Antrim,
Ireland, the son of Samuel Dinsmore and Mary Brewster (daughter of
Andrew Brewster). Currently no information is known about his wife.
On coming to America with his wife and four children, he lived for a
short time in Cincinnati. In 1850 William is found living with his
daughter and son-in-law, Benjamin Crawford, in Ward 8, Cincinnati,
Hamilton County, Ohio, Household #1630. William then came to Putnam
county and cleared up a farm of ninety acres in Sugar Creek Township.
At that time there was only a wagon track cut out along Hog Creek north
from Lima, and it was very crooked, running to each settler's house
regardless of the course. In 1860 he is found living with his son
William and family in Sugar Creek Township, Putnam County, Ohio,
Household #390. One source states that William died in Piqua, Ohio.
