John was a carpenter. He also was rather civic-minded and served on the Coronado board of trustees for several years. From his obituary in the Coronado Journal-Compass: |
John Edmond Alcaraz, Pioneer Builder and Former Mayor, Passes Away John Edmond Alcaraz, 85, former mayor of Coronado and the oldest living member of Coronado Lodge 441, F. & A. M. died Sunday afternoon of old age at his home, 579 Citrus street, Imperial Beach. ... Born at San Raphael, March 31, 1865, Alcaraz moved with his family to San Diego when a boy and and attended school at the Old Town school. He went to Mexico where he completed his education and then came to the Coronado area where he spent a good part of the last 50 years of his life, except for a brief stay in Oregon. Chairman of the board of trustees of Coronado (the position now known as Mayor), from 1924 to 1926, trustee (councilman), 1922-1927, and service as deputy marshal in Coronado rounded out his public life.
