Sam Fielder Pension

(Samuel P. Fielder, s/o John L. Fielder)

On this 14th day of April 1851
Personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace within and for the county and state aforesaid Powhatan Gordon, resident of Maury County in the State of Tennessee, aged forty eight years, who being sworn according to law, declares that he is the Regularly constituted and appointed guardian of Samuel P. Fielder the only minor heir and son of John L. Fielder deceased who was a Private in The Independent Company of Spies commanded by Captain John Gordon, and Lieutenant James Patterson in the war with the Creek Indians in the year 1813. That he volunteered and mustered into the United States service at Fayetteville in the State of Tennessee on or about the 24th day of September 1813 for the term of six months, and was discharged at Huntsville in the state of Alabama on or about the last day of April 1814 after a service of seven months and fourteen days, that he again entered the service of the United States in the War declared by the United States against Great Britain on the 18th of June 1812 as a Private in the company commanded by Captain James Gaut ? in the Regiment commanded by Colonal Henderson who fell at the Battle of New Orleans, that he volunteered and mustered into the service of the United States at Nashville in the state of Tennessee on or about the 3rd day of October 1814 for the term of six months and was again honouralbly discharged on or about the 15th day of April 1815 as will appear by reference to the muster and pay rolls of said Companies, he the said Powhatan Gordon not having any knowledge of what he did with his discharges if indeed he ever had any, that the said John L. Fielder died in Maury County in the state of Tennessee on or about the 17th day of September 1835. That no widow survived him on the 28th September 1850 his widow having previously intermarried with one Moses Johnson; that he left but one minor child whose name is Samuel P. Fielder that he was born on or about the 18th day of September 1830 and was twenty years old on or about the 18th day of September 1830 and that he the said Powhatan Gordon was appointed guardian for the said Samuel P. Fielder by the county court of Maury County in the state aforesaid on the 4th day of February 1851 and still continues as such , as will appear by the copy of the record herewith presented as proof. that he knows of no family record setting forth particularly the day on which the said John l. Fielder died, or the day on which the said Samuel P. Fielder was born but that he knows the statement herein made to be true from his knowledge; He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty Land to which the said Samuel P. Fielder may be entitled to by reason of the services of the said John L. Fielder under the Act Granting Bounty Land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the Military service of the United States approved 28th Sept. 1859.

Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written and I certify that the said Powhatan Gordan is a man of veracity and of the age above stated.

On this 14th day of April, 1851 personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace within and for the county and state aforesaid Henry G. Cummings aged forty eight years and Loyd Kelley aged forty three years who being duly sworn according to Law, declares that they were well acquainted with John L. Fielder named in the within declaration that he died at or about the time set forth in the declaration, that no widow survived him on the 28th of September 1850. That he has left only one minor child, Samuel P. Fielder, whose age is correctly set forth in the declatation to the best of their belief. Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and date above.
