Catherine Baeder Zacher's Obituary:



The following is from an obituary provided by Eleanor Zacher in 1976, source not noted (No doubt, a paper in Peru, IL), note misspelling of Catharina's name:

Katherine Elizabeth Zacher, a long time resident of this city, passed away ath the home, No. 1815 Main Street, late yesterday afternoon after an illness that commenced with a paralytic stroke recieved on October 18th last after which the patient remained in an unconsious condition until the end came yesterday.

Deceased was born on January 5, 1829, in Vendersheim, in the Grand Duchy of Hesse, Germany, and emigrated in May of the year 1851 to this country coming first to Buffalo, NY where in 1853 she was married to John Zacher. The family resided in buffalo until 1862 when they removed to New York City, and in 1865 a western home was sought and this city [Peru, IL - ed.] was selected. Here the deceased has resided ever since, and afterthe death of the husband in 1872, she remained devoted to the task of caring for a large family of children, of which there in all ten, six of whom are living to mourn the loss of a loving mother, namely, William of Racine, Wisc., John Casper, of Oklahoma, and George Victor, Charles, Edward and Gilbert of this city. Three children, Katherine, Regina and amelia died in infancy, and one, August, passed away at the age of two years. There are also sixteen grandchildren surviving.
