child 2 i. Samantha J.2 Mann was born in Brown Co., Ohio March 14, 1848.(769) She married Israel D. Jewett in Indianapolis,IN., March 22, 1870.(770) Israel was born in Adams Twp.,Decatur Co.,IN. Mar.15,1842.(771) He was the son of Hiram D. Jewett and Malinda Israel. Israel died after 1913 in Adams Twp.,Decatur Co.,IN. Israel Established 1894 in Decatur Co.,Indiana. Israel D. Jewett established the Jewett Telephone Company in 1894. Pages 1055-1056 of History of Decatur Co.,Indiana indicate that this utility had the best of service. It states that lines were connected with a number of other exchanges and subscribers were connected with all points in Rush and Decatur Counties in Indiana. Israel D. Jewett's son, Dr. Earl D. Jewett assumed management of the Telephone Co. in 1909.

Israel retired in Adams Twp., Decatur Co.,Indiana, about 1909.(772) (See Israel D. Jewett for the continuation of this line.) Samantha J. Mann was born in Brown Co.,Ohio to John W. Mann and Sarah Dye. John W. Mann died when Samantha was very young. Samantha was left with an Uncle in Rush Co.,Indiana when her mother went back South and remarried. Samantha remained in Indiana, her mother died in Vicksburg,Mississippi in 1883. Samantha had no siblings. She was educated in Public Schools and helped to teacher while young. She later attended Franklin College and taught school in Decatur County. Samantha J. Mann married Israel D. Jewett at Indianapolis,Indiana on March 22,1870. The couple had 3 children, Ora H., Ettie M., and Earl D. Their youngest, Earl D. Jewett, became a doctor and also managed the Jewett Telephone Company after 1909.
