3. Solomon² Canull (Jacob¹) was born in OH June 18, 1830. Solomon died April 10, 1902 in Leech Twp., Wayne Co.,IL., at 71 years of age. His body was interred after April 10, 1902 in Union Cem.,Wayne Co.,IL.

He married Mary Jane Henderson in Shelby Co.,IN, August 4, 1853.(386) Mary was born in IN July 31, 1835. She was the daughter of Jesse Henderson and Catherine Chambers. Mary died April 25, 1911 in Grover Twp.,Wayne Co.,IL., at 75 years of age. Her body was interred April 27, 1911 in Union Cem.,Wayne Co.,IL.

Solomon was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Wayne Co.,IL..⁽³⁸⁷⁾ Dorris Lagow tells me that a grand-daughter of Solomon Canull had thought he was German because he taught her some German and had learned English from his wife, Mary Henderson. But the Canulls had been in America for some time, so she believes they must have lived in the mostly German-speaking communities in Pennsylvania and Ohio, before moving to Indiana and later Illinois. According to his obituary, Solomon died of pneumonia. It also states that Solomon joined the EUB Church in 1849 and that his brother, Samuel, niece Alice Olinger, and nephew, Elijah Benson of Beecher City, attended his funeral. Solomon's daughter Arabella gave Effingham Co.,IL. as her birthplace, she was born in 1865.

Solomon Canull and Mary Jane Henderson had the following children:

4 i. John³ Canull was born in Indiana January 23, 1855. John died April 29, 1914 in Leech Twp., Wayne Co.,IL., at 59 years of age. His body was interred after April 29, 1914 in Union Cem.,Wayne Co.,IL. John was a section hand for the Southern Railroad. He died of heart failure and the death was recorded in Death Record Book 3, p.168. He never married and lived with his parents until they died.

5 ii. Catharine M. Canull was born in Indiana November 1, 1859. Catharine died July 15, 1941 in Wayne Co.,IL, at 81 years of age. She married three times. She married Seth Virgin in IL, December 1, 1877. (See Seth Virgin for the continuation of this line.) She married Albert Simms in IL, June 2, 1881. She married Charles McCollum in IL, November 24, 1887. Charles was born before 1860. (See Charles McCollum for the continuation of this line.)

6 iii. Samuel Alonzo Canull was born in Indiana July 11, 1863. Born near St. Paul, IN. Samuel died March 16, 1907 in Wayne Co.,IL, at 43 years of age. He married Dora Etta Staltz or Stoltz in Wayne Co.,IL., November 17, 1889.(388) Dora was born in Illinois August 4, 1872. Lick Prairie, Wabash Co.,IL. She was the daughter of Andrew Staltz and Josephine Sights.

Dora died January 13, 1954 at 81 years of age. Her body was interred after January 13, 1954 in Union Cem.,Wayne Co.,IL. The Register of Marriages for Wayne Co.,IL. says Samuel A. Canull was 26 yrs. old, born in Indiana, living in Wayne Co.,IL. parents of groom were Solomon and Jane Hurdson Canull. Samuel is listed as a farmer. The bride was Sara E. Staltz, age 19, born in Illinois, daughter of Andrew and Josephine Sights Staltz. The couple was married Nov.17, 1889 by R. D. Murphy, J.P.

7 iv. Arabella Canull was born in Illinois June 10, 1865. Marriage license lists Effingham Co.,IL. as birthplace. Arabella died February 18, 1936 in Jasper Twp., Wayne Co.,IL, at 70 years of age. Her body was interred after February 18, 1936 in Little Prairie Cem.,Edwards Co.,IL. She married Edward David McKibben in Wayne Co.,IL, September 14, 1892.(389) David was born in Edwards Co.,IL. 1861. He was the son of David McKibben and Mary West. 8 v. Addie Mae or Abagail M. Canull was born in Illinois May 28, 1870. Wayne Co.,IL. Addie died May 5, 1944 in Fairfield,Wayne Co.,IL, at 73 years of age. Her body was interred after May 5, 1944 in Thomas Prairie Cem., Wayne Co.,IL. She married four times. She married Robert Luther King in Wayne Co.,IL, March 30, 1890.(390) Robert was born in Wayne Co.,IL November 17, 1867. Robert died March 7, 1907 in Wayne Co.,IL, at 39 years of age. 9 vi. Flora J. Canull was born in Wayne Co.,Illinois December 31, 1872. Flora died May 16, 1892 in Leech Twp., Wayne Co.,IL., at 19 years of age. She married Henry Williams after 1888.

10 vii. Dale Canull was born in Wayne Co.,IL June 24, 1874. Dale died February 20, 1878 in Leech Twp., Wayne Co.,IL., at 3 years of age. His body was interred after February 20, 1878 in Union Cem., Grover Twp., Wayne Co.,IL. Sarah Sunderland said that Dale died from falling into a kettle of hot soap.

11 viii. Sarah Ella Canull was born in Wayne Co.,IL. May 16, 1877. Sarah died May 28, 1957 in IL, at 80 years of age. Her body was interred after May 28, 1957 in Maple Hill Cem., Fairfield, Wayne Co.,IL. She married Cornelius Emmons about 1900. Cornelius was born November 7, 1880. Cornelius died May 18, 1957 at 76 years of age.

12 ix. James Solomon Canull was born in Wayne Co.,IL. September 24, 1879. James died December 26, 1953 in Champaign, Champaign Co.,IL, at 74 years of age. His body was interred December 29, 1953 in Koontz Cem., Wayne Co.,IL. He married Minnie Webb in Wayne Co.,IL, July 25, 1906. Minnie was born June 10, 1888. Minnie died May 7, 1951 in Wayne Co.,IL, at 62 years of age. Her body was interred May 10, 1951 in Koontz Cem., Wayne Co.,IL.
