James Foster married twice. He married Mary Pierce in Bartholomew Co., IN. on Aug. 27, 1846. (Foster, James married Pierce, Mary in Bartholomew Co., IN. 8-27-1846 - from http://208.119.72.68/INMarriages1850/Marriages_results.asp ) Mary Pierce was born in IN. about 1820-30. Mary Pierce died before 1862 in IN.. He married Diantha Talkington in Decatur Co.,Indiana, Aug.27,1862.(539) Diantha was born in Decatur Co.,Indiana Oct.18,1842. She was the daughter of William Sr. Talkington and Margery Elkins. She married William T. Dolton Dalton in Wayne Co.,IL., 1880. She married Sanford Baldridge in Decatur Co.,IN., Dec.03,1857. Diantha died Mar.25,1914 in Wayne Co.,IL., at 71 years of age. Her body was interred 1914 in West Cemetery,Wayne Co.,IL..

James was listed as head of household on the 1860 Bartholomew Co., Indiana Census (census page sent to me by Gloria Fasholz - it is very hard to read - guessing on several things…)

James was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census in White Co.,IL..(540) I have not been able to find James Foster's parents. James was in Decatur Co.,Indiana by 1862, when he married Diantha. An Archibald Foster was also in Decatur Co.,Indiana and married Louisiana Talkington. Both families of Fosters moved to White Co.,Illinois by 1870. The White Co.,IL. census contained only one entry for a Foster in 1860, a Mary Foster 48 NC., in the John Matsell household. In 1870 there were several Fosters, including James & Archibald's families - 1870 - Foster, Archibald 31 OH., Louisiana (Talkington) 25 IN., Johnson 4 IL., Annie 5 IL., Joseph 1 IL...; Margaret Foster 71 KY., in the Simeon Chrisman household...; William Foster 28 TN...; Wiley Foster 48 TN...; Frank Foster 40 OH...; FOSTER, James 44 OH., Diantha 28 IN., Charles 9 IN., Jane 5 IN., Andrew 2 IL., Margaret 1 IL., Chauncey 14 IN. ( either Chauncey is from a former marriage, or he is James' brother or nephew).

child 2 i. C. Eveline2 Foster was born in Decatur Co.,Indiana 1855. Eveline died before 1940 - not mentioned in brother James Edward's obit. She was listed on the 1860 Bartholomew Co., IN. census. She was not in household on 1870 White Co. census. She was listed under children on the 1880 Wayne Co. census.

child 3 ii. James Edward Foster was born in Bartholomew Co.,Indiana 1857. He married Mary Catherine Hamel in Wayne Co.,IL., April 30, 1881.(541) Mary was born before 1865. (From IL. Online Databases: FOSTER, JAMES E & HOWEL(Hamel), MARY C 1881-04-30 Book C / p.99 line 76 WAYNE Co., IL.)
Obit from Bettie Wheat : James Edward Foster, d. Jan. 3, son of James and Mary Pierce Foster. Born Decatur Co., IN., April 22, 1858 and died January 3, 1940. He came to Wayne Co., Illinois with his father at an early age. On April 30, 1881 he married Mary Hamel. They had six sons. Two, Europe E. and John A. died in infancy. William H. also died on Feb. 3, 1932. Survivors include James R. and Isaac of Toledo, Ohio and George of Fairfield; also one step-brother, Charles Lemon and one half-sister, Ella Shelby of Fairfield.

James Foster and Diantha Talkington had the following children:

child 4 iii. Charles Foster was born in Decatur Co.,Indiana on Feb. 13, 1862. I have discovered Charles Lemon was Diantha's son, born several months before she married James Foster. He is listed as Foster on the census, but his father was James William Lemon(s). Gloria has more on this line. Charles Lemon is listed as step-brother in James Edward Foster's obit.

child 5 iv. Jane Foster was born in Decatur Co.,Indiana 1865. Jane died before 1940 - not mentioned in half-brother James E. Foster's obit.

child 6 v. Andrew Foster was born in Massilon Twp.,Wayne Co.,Illinois 1868. Andrew died before 1940 - not mentioned in half-brother James E. Foster's obit.

child 7 vi. Margaret Ann Foster was born in White Co.,IL. 1869.(542) Margaret died 1913 in Massilon Twp.,Wayne Co.,Illinois. Her body was interred 1913 in Palestine Cem.,Romine Twp.,Marion Co.,IL., Palestine.(543) She married twice. She married James Andrew Dalton in possibly Wayne Co.,IL, 1888. Andrew was born in Illinois 1862. He was the son of William T. Dolton Dalton. Andrew died before 1900 in Wayne Co?,IL.. Margaret Foster Dalton was listed as widow on her marriage license to Calvin Anspach. (See James Andrew Dalton for the continuation of this line.)

She married Calvin Anspach in Fairfield, Wayne County, Illinois, October 16, 1900.(544) Calvin was born in Clay County, Illinois November 11, 1857. He was the son of Michael Anspach and Adaline Henderson. He married Caroline Turner in Marion Co.,IL., July 4, 1924.(545) He married Emma J. Simms in Wayne County, Illinois, August 20, 1885.(546) Calvin died October 1, 1936 in Romine Twp.,Marion Co., Illinois, at 78 years of age.(547) His body was interred October 2, 1936 in Palestine Cem.,Romine Twp.,Marion Co.,IL, Palestine.(548) Calvin was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census in Romine Twp., Marion Co.,IL..(549) Calvin's occupation: farmer in Illinois, 1936.(550) (See Calvin Anspach for the continuation of this line.)
