He married Mary Ann Anspach in Williams Co., OH, April 10, 1871. Mary was born in Williams Co., OH Feb. 22, 1851. Mary⁽²⁶⁾ was the daughter of George E. Anspach and Matilda Jane Coslet. Mary died 1932 at 81 years of age. At 21 years of age Mary became the mother of Matilda Coats in Florence Twp., Williams Co., OH., March 19, 1872. At 26 years of age Mary became the mother of John Coats in Florence Twp., Williams Co., OH., Dec. 4, 1877.

At 21 years of age Joseph became the father of Matilda Coats in Florence Twp., Williams Co., OH., March 19, 1872. At 27 years of age Joseph became the father of John Coats in Florence Twp., Williams Co., OH., Dec. 4, 1877.

Joseph A. Coats and Mary Ann Anspach had the following children:

4 iii. Matilda Coats was born in Florence Twp., Williams Co., OH. March 19, 1872.
