[214] Joseph YOUNG was born in 1857 in South Brent, Somerset, ENGLAND. Heand his wife and young family immigrated to Mackay, Queensland,AUSTRALIA in 1882. After living in Queensland for some years, he andhis wife Mary Elizabeth BRADBEER moved to New South Wales where theyspent the rest of their lives living around the Gosford area. Togetherthey started a new generation of YOUNGs in Australia.
[205] This is at the time of Elizabeth's baptism.
[208] This is according to his death certificate.
[187] The birth was registered in the district of Axbridge, sub-district ofBurnham, Somerset.
[189]
The 1881 Census of England shows Joseph Young (eventually of Ourimbah)living in Horfield, Bristol with wife Elizabeth and their second sonWalter G(eorge) - Charles Henry had already died. The census indicatedthat Joseph Young was born in South Brent, Somerset (also later knownas Brent Knoll). His marriage certificate, Pa's birth certificate (hisson Arthur YOUNG) and the 1881 England Census all suggest he was bornaround 1857 and that his father was also Joseph YOUNG. The only JosephYOUNG born in South Brent in 1857 is the one recorded here and indeedthere are no other births for Joseph YOUNG for many years surrounding1857. So this, along with the common family names Joseph gave hischildren (Albert, Sarah, Anne, Mary, William, Henry etc) confirm thelink. His death certificate indicates indicates he was born earlier, around 1854, in South Brent but there are no records to support this.
His death certificate also indicates that his mother's christian wasSarah. Her maiden name wasn't known to the informant, Joseph'sson-in-law Chas McPHERSON. However, the South Brent Church recordsindicate his mother was Mary and further records of there first sonAlbert, born in 1845, indicate her maiden name was MERRICK.

[194] Description: on the R.M.S. Manora from Plymonth, ENGLAND
[195]
Joseph and Mary Elizabeth immigrated to Australia on the R.M.S."Manora". It left from Plymouth, ENGLAND on the 5-JUL-1882 and reachedCooktown, Australia on the 23-AUG-1882. They left with their youngfamily Walter G (2 years) and Sarah Ann, an infant less than 1 yearold. Unfortunately, 20 days into the trip Sarah died on the25-JUL-1882. This was not unusual for these times. The "Manora" dockedat many ports down the Queensland coast, finally stopping in Brisbane. The YOUNG family left the ship when it docked at Mackay on the centralQueensland Coast on 26-AUG-1882. In all 39 immigrants disembarked atMackay. The YOUNG's was classified as "Free" passangers.
The Queensland Immigration records of that trip also indicate thefollowing. The "Manora" was a 3260 ton vessel and on that trip she wasunder the direction of Capt. Granger. The ship's surgeon was D. Pocockand the matron was Mrs Curry. A total of 380 passengers embarked onthe trip. Along the way there were 3 births (3 females - 2 from the"Free" passengers and 1 from "Remittance" class) and 8 deaths, one ofwhich was Sarah Ann. So a total of 375 passengers landed in Australia.
[198] This is at the time of Annie's birth.
[201] This is at the time of William Cecil's baptism.
[203] This is at the time of Elizabeth's baptism.
[210]
Jospeh YOUNG's death certificate indicates he was 72 years old when hedied (informant was Chas McPherson). This would indicate he was bornabout 1854 and this slightly contradicts is birth year from ArthurYOUNG's birth certificate (informant was Mary Elizabeth YOUNG) whchindicates he was born about 1857.
The cause of death was "Carcinoma (sigmoid Flexure)" (skin cancer?).The medical attendant was James H. Paul (registered) who was Joseph onthe day of his death.
[212]
The priest was J. A. Kelly from the Church of England (undertaken R.H. Creighton, witnesses S. S. Joyce and Gordon C. Cross).
Joseph is buried in Grave 143, Section 3, Row F, Plot 121.
[2112]
The marriage was solemnized at the Parish Church of Horfield,Gloucester. It was carried out "according to the Rites and Ceremoniesof the Church, after Banns" by H.H. Hardy. It was conducted in thepresence of John Morley (for Joseph) and Mary Ann Mapstone (forElizabeth).
The marriage date from the IGI contradicts the date given by MaryElizabeth on Arthur YOUNG's (Pa's) birthcertificate by one year -19-FEB-1879.
