Doreen YOUNG in a letter dated 16-APR-1941, begin by writing "WellMum, how are you fairing without Cecil in there. I'll bet it's lonely... ". Where did Cecil go in 1941?
Cecil loved cars, especially black and Rileys and Wolseys. He then gotin Holden cars with the purchase of a 'White Hot' special with V8engine. He always wore a brown, panama hat when ever he went out. Heloved country music, especially Slim Whitman and played the mouthorgan. Cec and Dot for a number of years were members of the SunshineCoast Country and Western Music Association and spent many weekendsgoing to their shows which they held around various venues on theCoast.
He hated to be late and the neighbours in Main Street said they couldset their clocks by time that when he went to and come from work. Hewas a hard worker and rarely took holidays, spending the Christmasholidays working on special projects while the sawmill was not inproduction.

Cecil and Steve YOUNG originally started a sawmilling business onMontville Road Palmwoods. It was located on the corner of MonvilleRoad and Churchill Street. The mill included a house which Albert andChris YOUNG occupied for sometime which Albert worked at the mill. Thesawmill house was later bought by the Walkers of Palmwoods and theylived there for many years.
Some early history of the mill was reported in the Nambour Chronicle,Friday 25-MAR-1938 (page 6). The business was purchased by a Mr N.H.Scheltema of Victoria from Messrs. H. Fielding and J. Whitmee ofPalmwoods.
Unfortunately the business was burnt down on the afternoon of Monday,22-DEC-1952 after an electrical switch board was struck by lightning.The Nambour Fire Brigade was called at 1:35 pm and made "a speedy6-mile dash to the scene". The loss was estimated to be £2,000 (TheNambour Chronicle, Friday, 26-DEC-1952)
The brothers re-built the mill but relocated it to the other side ofMonville Road on the flats leading up to Lingard Street. After someyears, Steve moved on and in 1968 Cecil and Walter continued on thebusiness. On the 27-MAY-1968, Cecil made Dot a partner in the businessby gifting her a half-share of his part of the business (QueenslandStamp Duties Record, 27-JUN-1969)
Young Brothers was one of the first, if not the first sawmill, thatbegan regularly transporting timber to Brisbane. They sent palletsdown to Brisbane regularly. Cec throught this was a more profitableway of running the business as the other part of the business -cutting pineapple and banana cases etc - involved much more wastagebecause of the very thin timber involved.
The mill had two benches (called the No 1 and No 2 benches) whichmeant two streams of production was possible. In the later years, theNo 1 bench produced the large timber like the pallets and thepineapple and other fruit case timber went through the No 2 bench.
One of the major feats carried out at the mill was the cutting of thehugh structural beams for "The Boolarong" - a two storey, restaurantand accomodation business at Alexdrandia Headlands near Mooloolaba.Cec said that the end of the mill had to be specially extended to cutthe extremely long timber beams.
[151] Description: Accidentially killed in a sawmilling accident. The sawmill was owned by Cecil and Wally YOUNG ans was located on Montville Rd, Palmwoods, Queensland. Cecil was 54 years old when he was killed.
[153] The probate record reads "... that administration of all and singularthe personal estate of the said deceased was granted by the Court toDOROTHY ANN YOUNG of Main Street Palmwoods ...".

The priest who performed the marriage was Francis George KNIGTH(Church of England). The witnesses were Walter Andrew YOUNG (Cecil'sbrother) and Coral Shelia RIGG (who later married Walter). As thebride was under the age of 21 years, consent for her marriage wasgiven by Cecelia BARNETT, Dot's "surviving parent and guardian". Atthe time of the marriage, Cecil was a bachelor and Dot was a spinster.
The reception was help at the C.W.A. Hall in Maryoochydore and Dot wasgiven away by Colin "Pop" Barnett.
