In Approximately 1905, the Bakers built a home in Cambridge and William started the pump and windmill business. Later he was joined by his son, Ansel. Driving horses to a "Pump Wagon" he put up and repaired pumps and windmills in all the surrounding territory. For many years his "Pump Shop" was on the corner south of Parkside Manor in Cambridge, Nebraska. (Reference: "1874 - 1974 Cambridge Nebraska Centennial Book")
Fact: Based upon Mary Eliza Box Baker's obituary, she was the second wife of William E. Baker and the mother of the majority of his children.

BAKER IS LAID TO REST THURSDAY Funeral services were conducted from the First Congregational Church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for William E. Baker, 86, who passed away Wednesday September 24. Singers were: Tom Minnick, Tom Redford, Frank Butler, Robert Mousel, Ed Perry and Clinton John. William E. Baker, son of Robert and Jane Baker, was born June 22, 1861 in Onadago County New York and departed this life on September 24, 1947 at Cambridge aged 86 year, 3 months, and 2 days.
Mr. Baker grew to young manhood in Illinois, moving then with his parents to Saline County, Nebraska. He was married to Fietta Arnold in July of the year 1881. Two children, Edd or Orland, California and Bert, who died in 1946, were born to this union.
On September 20, 1890, he was married to Eliza Box at Wilber, Nebraska. Ten children were born to this union: Lena Stahl, Ansel Baker, Edith McKillip, Grace Newcomb, Walter Baker, Dorothy Bible, Nina Andrews, and Francis Parker all of Cambridge; Hazel McKillip of Corning, California, and Robert, who died in infancy.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Walsworth and Mrs. Charlotte Buckingham, and one brother, Artie. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his wife and children 27 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. 2
