Joan (born 9 or 11 Aug 1303; m. 1st 28 April 1317 John de Montagu (dsp & vp by 14 Aug 1317), eldest son of 2nd Lord (Baron) Montagu of the 1299 creation; d. 2 Oct 1334), eldest daughter and coheir of Theobald de Verdun, 1st/2nd Lord (Baron) Verdun, who brought him Alton Castle and other estates in Staffs. Note: Despite the placement of the ")" above, I am pretty sure "2 Oct 1334" is Joan's death date. The 2nd Lord Montagu died well before 1334, because his widow, Elizabeth de Montfort, married Thomas Furnival's father in 1322.

(i) Joan, born 9 or 11 August 1303 at Wootton in Stanton Lacy, Salop, and baptised in the church of Onibury, in that co., married, 1stly, 28 April 1317, in the King's Chapel in Windsor Park, John de Montagu (1st son and heir apparent of William, 2nd Lord Montagu), who died s.p. and v.p., being buried 14 August 1317 in Lincoln Cathedral. She married, 2ndly, 24 February 1317/8, Thomas (de Furnivalle), Lord Furnivalle, who died 5, 7 or 14 October 1339. She died 2 October 1334 at Alton, aged 31, and was buried 7 or 8 January 1334/5 in Croxden Abbey. See FURNIVALLE. Joan married Thomas Furnival Baron Furnival, son of Thomas Furnival Sir and Joan Le Despencer, on 24 Feb 1317-1318.¹ (Thomas Furnival Baron Furnival was born about 1296 in Alton, England ¹ and died between 5 Oct 1339 and 14 Oct 1339 ¹.)
