Earl Hamelin De Warenne

  General Notes:

Hamelin Plantagenet married Isabel, daughter of William de Warren, 3rd Earl of Warren and Surrey. She brought to her 2nd husband not only the Earldom, but all the other honors and possessions of her father, in England and Normandy, possessions so great that, without alarming jealousy of the crown, they could not have been added to the wealth of any other noble family; especially as the lady to whom they descended was very nearly allied to the Kings of France and Scotland. It was, therefore, not only from affection for his brother, but from the maxims of good policy and reasons of state, that Henry II interested himself in the match. Hameline assumed the name of Warren and became the Earl of Surrey Vicomte of Touraine. (See Early Yorkshire Charters Vol viii pp20-24 for
