| Note* | circa 1815 | Andrew Leiter "laid out the town of Leitersburg in 1815, and sold lots, but the enterprise was not financially successful and he died poor. In 1795, the locality had been known as Liter's Tavern. (Md Hist. Mag., v.31, p.163). It seems probable that the family name had become settled as Letier about the time the town was founded."
