- The Wead Family of Wyoming IL -

Dr. James Wead was born in Paris IL on March 25, 1868. Dr. Wead attended Chicago College of Pharmacy from which he graduated in 1891. Then after graduating from the COllege of Physicians and Surgeons in Keokuk Iowa in 1894, he practiced medicine in Arcola IL for one year. During 1895 he set up business in West Jersey(Stark County) IL and in 1900 became a resident of Wyoming. He purchased the G.G. Davis Drug Store and formed a partnership with Duane J. Newell.

On November 3, 1894 he married Alma Trimmer of Wyoming who had been his schoolmate in Keokuk Iowa. They had two sons, one being Dr. John T. Wead who later became a partner with his parents. The other son James attended Buena Vista College in Iowa. Dr. Alma Trimmer Wead praticed medicine with her husband all through her lifetime.

Dr. Wead was very active in politics, holding various offices and was president of the high school and grade school board. He organized the Stark County Medical Society in 1902 and was its president. In his later years he suffered from ill health due to his heavy practice in his profession. Dr. Wead died in his residence in Wyoming on May 16, 1929.


Dr. John T. Wead son of Drs. James and Alma Trimmer Wead was born in West Jersey IL on March 6, 1896. With his parents he came to Wyoming in 1900. He attended and graduated from the Wyoming schools and graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1922. He was a veteran of WWI and while in service studied at Yale University. He interned at Los Angeles County Hospital before beginning his practice here.

Dr. Wead practiced for 33 years in Wyoming, first associated with both of his parents. After his father's death he continued pratice with his mother until she retired and he practiced by himself.

Dr. Wead first married Lucille Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Miller of Wyoming. Lucille Miller later passed away.

On July 9, 1945 he married Margaret Teeter. A few years later ill health forced him to give up the practice of Obstetrics and also night calls. He finally retireed from all medical practice in April 1957. He died at Methodist Hospital in Peoria IL on December 22, 1959.

Dr. Wead always had the welfare and progress of the community at heart. He was a generous donor to civic projects, many times requesting that his contributions go unrecorded.
