In January of 1863, Ned Wynkoop was presented with a sword by his fellow officers of the First Colorado Regiment of Volunteers with whom he served in New Mexico during the early days of the Civil War. Recently, (in the mid 1990s), this sword resurfaced, after nearly a century in the possession of one of Ned's descendants. If I had to guess, (based on where it was found), I would say that the sword spent probably many years with Ned's great-grandchildren, the McKinseys who resided in Northern California for some time. The McKinseys are the grandchildren of Ned's daughter, Angeline Catherine Wynkoop. If I'm in error about this I apologize. I'd appreciate it if you'd drop me a note at chwynkoop@hotmail.com if you have any additional information about the history of this sword or wish to correct any misinformation I may offer here. I'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, enjoy! All my best, Chris
