Determining the owner of John, Nelly and their daughter Diana proved to be a bit of a challenge. I finally found the clues I needed in some will abstracts for the City of New York for the time period 1766-1776:
Volume 7, 1766-1771
Page 16.--In the name of God, Amen.--February 23, 1769. I, WILLIAM BOERUM, of Brookland, in Kings County, on Nassau Island, being sick and weak. My executors are to sell all that certain piece of land of mine which lies on the west side of my orchard in the township of Brookland, And from the money they are to pay all debts and legacies, as they shall come due, which I am obliged to pay by virtue of my father's will dated October 2, 1766. I leave to my wife Geertie the use of all the rest of my estate until my youngest son Jacob is of age, for the support of all three of my children. But if she marries, she is to have the household furniture, and have no further claim. My executors may sell all the rest of my estate when my son Jacob is of age, and the money to be paid to my wife and my three sons, William, Nicholas and Jacob. I make my wife and my brother Simon Boerum, and my brother-in-law, Cornelius Wynkoop, executors. Nassau Island was an old name for Long Island, where Jamaica and "New Lots", mentioned in the baptismal record above, were located. This next will makes it pretty clear that this is where Cornelius Wynkoop was living in the time period from 1769 to 1792:
Volume 8, 1771-1776 Page 454.--In the name of God, Amen.--I, JOHN HAUGEWOUT, of New Lots, in Kings County, being in health, November 22, 1770. I leave to my son John £100. After all debts are paid, I leave all the rest of my estate to all my children, Leffert, Herman, John, Cornelia and Alche. My eldest son, Leffert, shall keep my son John's part, allowing him 10 or 12 pounds a year during his natural life. But in case of sickness or other misfortune, he is to allow him as much more as he thinks proper. I make my son Leffert and my trusty friend, Cornelius Wyncoop, executors. (Signed John Eagewont.) Witnesses, Guysbert Bogart, Stephen Ryder, Titus Titus. Proved, April 21, 1773. Richard Wynkoop, in the 1904 edition of the Wynkoop Genealogy in the United States of America, has this to say about Cornelius Wynkoop on page 73:
170. Cornelius Wynkoop, (Cornelius 51, Benjamin 8, Cornelius 1,) baptized December 21, 1729, New York City: married, March 12, 1758, Abigail Osburne, at Fairfield, Conn. Her name appears as Aesbeen, in the record of baptism of her daughter Elizabeth. [Aes or aas been = bait-bone.] All my best, Chris
