Cornelis Wynkoop.

Cornelis (Cornelius) Wynkoop is supposed to have been born about 1616 and to have come from Utrecht, Holland. He was in Beverwyck (Albany) before 1658 as in that year he sold at auction his house and lot there. Later in the same year he sold another lot in the same settlement. In 1671 he was in Kingston for in that year he was an elder in the Dutch Church there. It is stated that he lived at Rensselaerswyck between 1664 and 1667, although this is not established by the records of that Colony. From 1669 to 1674 he was a Commissary of Kingston. When the Dutch recaptured New Netherland in 1673 they changed the name of Kingston to Swanenburgh and Wynkoop was confirmed as one of the four schepens and took the oath of allegiance. It is said that he died about 1676 but it was probably later than that as on September 10, 1684, Jan de Wever conveyed to the heirs of Cornelis Wynkoop two parcels of land in Niew Dorp (New Village meaning Hurley near Kingston) for which Wynkoop had paid him.
