Bucks County, Pa
Slaves and Slaveholders.

The three Wynkoops listed here are Gerardus Wynkoop, [No. 153], his cousin, Judge Henry Wynkoop, [No. 157], and Henry's son, Nicholas Wynkoop, [No. 393.] More information regarding them can be found in Richard Wynkoop's 1904 edition of Wynkoop Genealogy in the United States of America.
I would like to thank George F. Nagle, gnagle2919@aol.com, for his permission to reprint his research material here for the benefit of those of us researching Wynkoop family history in general and Wynkoop family slaves and slaveholders in particular.
Almost all of this material has been copied from George's monumental project, Central Pennsylvania Slaves and Slaveholders which I can't recommend enough to anyone researching this subject in Pennsylvania during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Thanks George. Keep up the good work!
Chris

Notes: This register contains three distinct types of slave records: 1780 Registrations of slaves; 1788 and later Registrations of children of slaves; and Manumissions papers. The documents have the appearance of having been copied into a central register, or book, over the course of the years involved, as opposed to being the original scraps of paper written out by the slaveholders themselves and delivered to the County Recorder. If this is the case, it means that errors in spelling and in the recording of details could be present.
