CHANGES IN ARIZONA DRY FORCE NEAR
___________
Prospective Appointment
of John H. Udell as Chief
Deputy Shifts Line-up
Immediate appointment of John H. Udell, Supervisor of Apache county, to be deputy administrator of Federal prohibition enforcement in Arizona, is forecast in dispatches received yesterday in Los Angeles from Washington.
Col. Robert R. Frith, administrator for California and Arizona, reccommended Udell's appointment ten days ago to Gen. Lincoln C. Andrews, assistant Secretary of the Treasury and national dry chief, as successor to Frank M. Pool, former deputy chief, who resigned a month ago to re-enter the lumber business.
Udell will take over the reins of dry activity in the neighboring State, now held by S. R. Kent, who succeeded Ray B. Adams, former chief field agent.
His home is St. Johns, Ariz., and he was clerk of the Superior Court there for four years. He also served in three sessions of the State Legislature, from 1921 to 1923, inclusive. Mr. Udell is 36 years of age and is a member of the L.D.S. Church.
The appointment of Udell completes the reorganization plan put into effect three weeks ago by Col. Frith, following the resignation of Otis Sayre, assistant administrator in charge of permissive work.
W. W. Anderson, the second assistant administrator in charge of enforcement, will take over the duties vacated by Mr. Sayre, and his work, in turn, will be done by Maj. Blaine Andrew Dixon, a recent appointee. John Wynkoop, formerly an agent, has succeeded Adams as chief field agent.
Assistant Administrator Anderson's secretary, Beryl Morris, will accompany him to the permissive division and Myrtle M. Voelz, who has been secretary to Sayre, will be assigned to the same duties under Maj. Dixon in the enforcement division. The untiring efforts of Miss Voelz in the permissive department were highly commended by Assistant Administrator Sayre to Col. Frith, and he urged that she be accorded an increase in salary and be given more latitude in her work.
