June 27 It's been a few weeks since there has been news because the weather has been beautiful here and I've been out in the garden.
When the 'temperature reaches 100 degrees', I will take refuge indoors and be working on a separate page for Warren Ellison, our grandfather. He led a very interesting life and saved several mementos that let us in on it . "I found your post this morning of your grandmother's high school scrapbook while I was searching around for new info on my grandmother, Mabel Poyer. What a find your posting is!!! and the link to the scrapbook. In it I find both my grandmother and her sister, Mildred Poyer, along with a couple of other distant relatives. It was so much fun reading the entries. I know that my grandmother kept a scrapbook, too, of her HS years, but it is long gone.As your grandmother's name seemed familiar to me, I went back through some copies of newspaper articles I have about my grandmother's engagement and marriage and sure enough, Marion Hix from Aurora, IL, is listed for both the engagement party and the wedding as an out-of-town guest. The wedding article also lists Mr. & Mrs. Hix along with Marion as guests, so I would assume they were your great-grandparents. Thank you so much for posting this and for the link to the scrapbook. I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed finding and reading through it! It is things like these that make all the research so fun. Best regards, Linda"
Some time ago, we were given scans for seventy unidentified, but beautiful, formal photos kept in an album possibly by Mina Warren Ellison, our great grandmother. Karen and I have identified a few, including James and Cynthia Ellison and J Frank and Rosena Warren. A few new ones of Albert Ellison are in the bunch. These are all up on the family pages to see.
April 18, 2010 The James and Cynthia Ellison page is featured today, complete with newly identified photos. Get a glimpse of life in the first half of the eighteenth century, actually 1835-1924, way before automobiles, telephones and electric lights. Maybe you will learn something you didn't know about one of our earlier ancestor couples, one that really carved out a place for themselves in American history. James & Cynthia Duell Ellison In the last few weeks, some new living Hopkins relatives have been found and new photos and stories have been exchanged. Fun! A cousin of Marion Ellison was found to have written a genealogy book about her family, the Lloyds. All this can be added to the Hopkins pages when it's time to lay them out. I am realizing that this may be a lifetime project. :-) March 1 2010- New this week is the Warren and Marion Ellison page, complete with photos and documents, to illustrate their story. So now there is the oldest Ellison generation done and the youngest. Our Ellison branch, descendants of James Ellison, only had girls, so Warren was the last in our line of Ellisons. While Richard Ellison had another son besides James, Samuel, who had two boys, nothing is known yet about them. Maybe someday we'll find more Ellisons. Check it out! March 1 2010- The Nostalgia Corner is all laid out and ready for more memories to be added. That's was more fun that I had thought it would be. I'm looking forward to getting more stories from my brother and sister about unusual things and quirky events in the Wyatt family in the 50's and 60's. This will be especially for our kids, nephews and nieces! So..., send your stories to wyattfamilymuseum@gmail.com Nostalgia Corner Now the site is now has a search box on the home page. After adding that, I was able to spot a few errors and unify the look of all the titles and the general look of the site. I've submitted the site to Google, Rootsweb and Yahoo. Feb 25, 2010- The sitemap or 'Lobby' is up to date and as pages are added, will grow. Also the 'Books & Journals' page has been laid out. The Warrens page is started...I say started because all these can be revised with new information as it is found. All the rooms have something and I will be adding to all of them as soon as possible! There is a new PBS program that I have been enjoying, 'The Faces of America'. From the website:
About the ProgramWhat a great gift to the people being profiled! It's a wonderful concept and I imagine that the result will be that more people will become interested in their family history, too. The 'The Faces of America' website has videos of the first three episodes and the program schedule. Starting March 5 on NBC, is a new program called Who Do You Think You Are?, also profiling celebrities and their family history.
Feb 16, 2010- Several more pages are finished or started by today. I've been sidetracked(as usual) by learning how to make photo galleries on NetObjects. I can make the gallery, after many tries, but don't know yet if it will be able to be uploaded through Freepages FTP. We'll see... So,...there is now the start to a sitemap, which is called the 'Lobby' and a library of articles mostly on Richard Ellison's life. His page, along with his wife, Jane, is nearly finished and there is really quite a bit of information about him and Jane for being that long ago. One hundren ninety years ago, he was born, and although he only lived to age 42 (after having) eight children), Jane lived to 91! That was quite old for back then. In the Library, you will find a letter from a man who sailed from Ireland, just like Richard's or his parents must have done. It tells of the reasons why people emmigrated here and their thoughts about the 'New Americans'. He tells of his search for work and the change he made in his career path. Also are included the letters our mother, Jean Wyatt wrote to her mother between 1948 when she was married and when she and Walt move closer to Garden Grove. These and other PDFs are linked to Scribd, an outside site where longer documents can be posted. All are private and in reading format for easy viewing. Here there is Mina Warren's Birthday Book which was invaluable to confirm the birth and sometimes death dates of the family members in her life and the charming essay that Leota Kean wrote. The Special Exhibits page is finished, ...look and see, and the Books & Journals page will be started today.
Feb 4, 2010- After sucessfully making an image map of a museum floorplan, I'm able to make the theme of the site a real(virtual) museum! It will have rooms filled with displays of the different family photos and whatever documentation we have. The Family Tree page is nearly finished with genealogy for four families, Ellison and Hix for Jean Wyatt and Wyatt and Davenport for Walter C Wyatt's side. Check back to this Newsroom for updates. I've added links for the different 'rooms' for easy navigation, as well as contact and about me info below. The Lobby will be the sitemap, just like if you were in a real museum! Check the Special Exhibit for a photo of the newest 'leaf' on our tree. I'm learning a lot about web design...crash course!
January 30, 2010- Welcome to the new Wyatt Family Museum. I just received website space on Freepages today, a part of Rootsweb and Ancestry.com. We, in the Wyatt family have often laughed about needing a family museum, especially when faced with boxes and boxes of family memorabilia. Slowly, we have been scanning in family keepsakes, papers, scrapbooks and photographs for safekeeping.
