JAMES HENRY GARDNER

James Henry, son of John and Lucy Gardner, was born near Lancaster, Kentucky, September 13, 1853 and passed away at his hom in Montgomery City, MO., May 14, 1931. He came with his parents and elder brother, Isom Gardner, to Missouri in 1858 and settled near Price's Branch, and spent the remainder of his life in this county.
In early manhood he professed faith in his Savior, under the ministry of Elder Malone, and was fellowshipped into the Christian Church at Prices Branch, and remained a faithful member of that church. He was always ready to do his part for the good of the church, when called upon. He was the first to subscribe to the building of the new church at Prices Branch.
On Februrary 10, 1875, he married Jo Letsy South, who preceded him to the grave. To this union were born two children, Homer Gardner, who died in California, and Lena who was married to Edwin Edney, and who also passed away.
Later in life Mr. Gardner was married to Miss Lora Whitman, who survives him. He leaves besides his faithful companion and adopted daughter, five grandchildren, one brother W.I. Gardner of Bellflower, and four sisters, Mrs. F.H. Edwards of Bellflower, Mrs. J.M. Dyke of Prices Branch, Mrs. Lucy Dyke of St. Louis and Mrs. Sallie Shelton of Prices Branch; and a host of other relatives and friends, to mourn his departure.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Christian Church at Prices Branch by Elder Haman of Louisiana, MO. After which the remains were placed in a vault which he had previously had prepared.
