The New Castle Cemetery and the Carrollton United Methodist Church Cemetery pictures are the perfect example of working together and using different kinds of resources to help each other and there's a good story about it all.

Last year (2003) Dee Godkin (thank you Dee!) made a trip and did some genealogy work along the way. One of the places she stopped was Carrollton, Carroll County, Kentucky. While she was there she spotted some Godbey information, which is one the families I am working on, copied the information, sent it to me and I posted it on this website. Now to anyone who doesn't know, the Godbey name in Kentucky is a little like Jones or Smith, there are thousands of them and truthfully the odds of finding out exactly who they are, small.

After it was posted, Margaret Braun was looking over the new pages, spotted the Godbey information and emailed me that they were part of our family! Before that we had no idea there had been family in Carroll County, Kentucky.

Margaret went through her files, made the connection, did some research and found some records on the internet saying that Rev. T.J. Godbey had performed some wedding's in Henry County, Kentucky in the early 1900's.  Then to quote Margaret "..... we got up last Friday, had nothing to do, the sun was shining, so we decided to drive down to try to find that cemetery...... the Church was really easy to find only a block or two from the town square where the Carroll County courthouse is and the cemetery is right there in the church yard. It's really pretty and well kept. After we finished there we decided to go on down the road to New Castle, Kentucky which is the county seat of Henry County......"

And the rest as they say (no pun intended) is history. On a whim Margaret and her hubby decided to take a drive through the New Castle Cemetery and there next to the road were two large markers for Jones and Godbey. They turned out to be the parents and sister (along with her family)s of the people buried in Carrollton. So now we know where 5 generations of one family line is. The first two generations being buried in Bethelridge Cemetery, Casey County, Kentucky.

Please if anyone has any information about these people please email Margaret at email address or me (Rena) at
