Bethelridge Cemetery Casey County Kentucky |
There are three Rigney's listed in a book (name forthcoming) in the Casey County
Library in Liberty, KY who are supposed to be buried in this cemetery. Steve Vest,
my husband David, my son TJ, his girlfriend Heather and myself, searched for
well over an hour for these three Rigney's. We had just about given up when we
found George T. Rigney, my great, great, great Grandfather. We found his headstone
and his military service marker under a tree, but we couldn't find the other
two. One of the two missing stones is listed in the book as Nicole, wife of
George T. Rigney. According to his second wife's widows pension file, signed affidavits
and other sources, this name is incorrect. The correct name of his first
wife was Mahala Jones. The second missing stone is for Amon Rigney, who was,
according to the family Bible, a son of George T. and Mahala Jones Rigney and
twin brother to John Franklin "Frank" Rigney, my great, great Grandfather. According to the information published in the book, George T. Rigney's headstone was the first "brought in" headstone to be placed in this cemetery. Both his headstone and military service stone are tucked peacefully under a tree, about the middle of the cemetery. My apologies for the missing information on this page. I hope to have this corrected soon, so please bear with me. :) |
