Hugh Logan Carpenter House
This house was built by Hugh Logan Carpenter, son of Station George Carpenter. It was started in 1838 finished by 1840. About 360 acres are still in tact around the home place, which is supported by tobacco, corn, wheat and hay crops, at one time is was used as a school. The Carpenter family sold it to the McAllister family then in 1890 it was sold to the Baughman family, to whom it still belongs. It was Margaret Baughman who preserved the Carpenter Cemetery at the house of Station George Carpenter.
 
 
 
 
All brick, the house is two stories high, and has many windows, all of which, shutters included, are the originals.
The stones for the foundation were quarried in a raveen about half a mile behind the house.
 
 
One original tree still stands that was there when th house was bought in 1890.
 
The big beautiful front porch, is covered and surrounded by victorian gingerbread trim.
 
The rooms are 20x20 and there is a wooden archway in the entryway . . . which is about 15 feet long and about 5 feet wide, all the floors are made with white Poplar.
 
 
All the door trim is done in 1x8 white poplar and the woodwork in the house was accented by a German artisan with a feather, it's called feather painting.
