This page is dedicated to my Mother

My Mom taught me that the best gifts were the ones given from the heart. They might not be fancy or expensive, but that didn't matter. She taught my sister and I that things we made ourselves were special and priceless. She didn't teach us by her words, she taught us by her actions. It didn't matter what it was, if we made it, she cherished it.

I remember as a little girl making things for my Mom and Dad. You would have thought the things I made were edged with priceless jewels the way they made over them! Mom always made us feel so special when we gave her something we had handmade and we always went away full of pride and wrapped up in that warm wonderful feeling you get when you've done something nice and made someone happy.

Some of you may know the song that Dolly Pardon sings "Coat of Many Colors", my childhood was a little like that song, I wore a lot of things that my Mom handmade.  We would pick out the patterns and material and she would make it. I've always envied my Mother's talent for sewing, it always seemed so natural for her. I love needlepoint and embroidery, but I've never had the patience for sewing. She made me toys, dresses for school dances, quilts and a smiley face pillow with my initials on the back:) To this day she still quilts and crochets. She has made quilts and blankets for three generations of my family myself, my children and now my grandchildren:)

If any of you own a handmade quilt, you know what a beautiful piece of art they are. Some tell stories with the pieces of fabrics and patterns, like the "Double Wedding Ring" and some are just thrown together and without a name. They are a part of our heritage. Part of our past that is uniquely American.

On this page you will see pictures of things made by many people. Receipts, drawings and all kinds of things that add to our heritage and history. This is what I call the Visual part of my genealogy. Made from history, made with love....

Handmade love.
