In the name of God Amen, the first daie of December in the yeare of or Lord god 1638, And in the fowerteenth yeare of our sovraigne Lord Kinge Charles of England Scotland France and Ireland defender of the faith &c, I Thomas Cooke the elder, of Longdon in the Countie and dioces of Worcester yeoman being sicke in bodie but of good and perfecte remembrance thanks be to Allmighty god for the same calling to mynde the frailtie of mynde estate and howe certaine it is that all fleshe shall change and departe this life and howe uncertaine the hower and time thereof is to the intent therefore that my mynde maybe the lesse occasioned to thinke on worldly things nowe when it hath pleased god to send me sicknes the messenger of death to warne, and to make readie to deprte out of this miserable world, and to the intent to avoide strife and contencon, wch might otherwise inse after my death, Concerninge the goodes cattells lands tenemts and hereditaments whereof it hath pleased hitherto to give me the use, doe make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge, First I commend my soule to Allmighty god humbled acknowledginge myne owne wretchednes and infinite synnes and findinge nothing in my selfe worthie to be presented unto his Mo doe offer and present unto him the most ptyrcious death and bloodsheddinge of Jesus Christ his only sonne and my lord and Saviour as full satisfaccon for all my synnes and for his sake and merits hope assuredly to receave full remission pardon and forgivenes for the same, And for my bodie knoweinge that whatsoevr, in the meane time become thereof yet att the laste daie the same shall rise againe and become incorruptible, Therefore I commend the same to be buried in the prishe Church of Longdon aforesaid If god will And touching my goodes Cattell Lands tenemts and hereditaments I will and bequeath the same in manner and forme followinge, And first because that they that give unto the poore lend unto the Lord, I will and bequeath to the poore of Longdon aforesaid the some of fortie shillings of lawfull mony of England, and to the Poore of Pendocke, in the said County of Worcester twentie shillings and alsoe to the poore of Corse in the County of Gloucester the some of fortie shillings to be distributed by the hands of the Ovrseers of the Poore of the said respective prishes for the time being within six monethes next after my death Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary the some of five hundred pounds of lawfull mony of England and will that my daughter Mary be paied her said legacie of five hundred pounds within one whole yeare next after my death likewise I bequeath to my said daughter Marie one Fetherbed and boulster which she spends[?] herselfe, Item I give and bequeath to Thomas Harbert the sonne of my daughter Hester the some of fieftie poundes of lawfull mony of England, And also I bequeath to Thomasine Harbert my grandchild and daughter to my daughter Hester the some of one hundred pounds of lawfull mony of England and my will is that these two legacies I have given to my grandchildren before named be paied by my executor within six yeares next after my decease, Item I give and bequeath unto the fower Children of my daughter in lawe Marie Parker twentie shillings apiece of currant Englishe mony to be paied them by my executor att theire sevrall ages of one and twentie yeares next after my death and to the Children of my daughter in law Ursula Hall fower poundes of lawfull Englishe mony to be equally devided amongst them and to be paied them att the end of five yeares their Father giving my executor securitie to save him harmeles, Item I give and bequeath unto my wifes grandchild Anne Tailor the some of fower pounds to be paied her att her full age of one and twenty yeares next after my death, And to everie of the sonnes and daughters of my brother James Cooke late of Corsse in the County of Gloucr deceased fortie shillings to evrie of them to be paied att the end of twoe yeares next after my death and to evrie of the sons and daughters of my sister Margery Sparkes deceased which shee had by John Hayward and are nowe livinge fortie shillings apiece, And also I give to John Sparkes my sisters sonne fower poundes and to his sister Joane Sparkes five poundes and to her sister Susans fortie shillings which late menconed legacies I will to be paied att the end of five yeares after my death I give to my servant Margerie Harris five pounds Item I give to my aforesaid daughters Marie Cooke and Hester the Chest of pewter and the twoe Chests of lynnen whereof I keepe the keyes myselfe together, withal that is in them to be equally devided betweene them, Item I give and bequeath to Guy Hill my sisters sonne the some of fortie shillings, Item I give and bequeath to Thomasine my wife the some of one hundred poundes of good and lawfull mony of England, And alsoe I give to my said wife twoe featherbeds and one flockbedd the best with theire boulsters pillows and healings all att her owne choice together withal her wearinge apprell and alsoe the one moitie of all my sheets puillowbeeres table clothes towells table napkings and other lynnens not before bequeathed And likewise the moitie of all my brasse and pewter not before bequeathed, Item I give and bequeath to the three sonnes of Nicholas Phelpes which he had by my daughter fortie pounds equally devided amongst them and to be paied att theire severall ages of one and twenty yeares nexte after my death. Item my will is that my wife and daughter Marie shall each of them living unmarried have convenient howseroome within my messuage in Longdon called Gunnes with theire appurtenancs for theire habitacon and dwellinge there in for and duringe the time of three yeares nexte after my deathe and from and after the said three yeares until my sonne Thomas shall be married, And alsoe I give to my said wife halfe the Corne in my howse and on the ground and alsoe the one halfe of the provision of meate and drinks which shalbe in my howse att my death shee therewith bearinge halfe the charge of howsekeepinge with my sonne Thomas from the time of my death until the end of nyne monethes then nexte followinge, Item I give and bequeath my said messuage or tenement called Gunnes and all and singular my messuages lands tenements and herditaments in Longdon aforesaid and in Poole alsoe Poole and Bushley in the Countie of Worcester and all leases of or concerninge the same together wth the rencov[?] and inheritance thereof unto my said sonne Thomas Cooke and to the heires of his body lawfully begotten and for want of such issue the remainder thereof to my said daughters Marie and Hester and to the heires of theire two bodies lawfully begotten and for default and want of such issues the remainder thereof to my right heires forevr, Item I hive and bequeath to my sonne in lawe John Parker tenn poundes of currant mony of England to be paied within one yeare nexte after my death, item I give more to my said wife all my silver plate to have the use thereof duringe her life and then I will that my sonne Thomas shall have the aforenamed silver plate after the death of his mother, The residue of all my goods Cattells and Chattells I give and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas Cooke whome I make my full and whole executor of this my last will and testamt charging him as he will answeare before god to prforme the same iustlie and trulie and to be dutifull to his mother and lovinge to his sisters and my trust is in him he will, And I doe here nominate and appointe my lovinge kinsman Thomas Surman the elder of Tredonton in the County of Gloucester yeoman and Charles Bicke of Tredonton aforesaid in the County aforesaid yeoman Ovrseers of this my last will and testament prayinge them to be councellinge aydinge and assistinge to my said executor in prformance of this my last will and testament and I doe give to either of them twentie shillings apiece to buy them some things to weare for my sake, and likewise to my kinsman Thomas Surman the younger tenn shillings to buy him somethings to weare for my sake, And I doe renounce all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made and doe hereby declare this only shalbe taken for my last will and testament and noe other, In witnes hereof I have putt my hand and seale to this my last will and testamt the daie and yeare above written Thomas Cooke Subscribed sealed and published as the last will and testamt of the first afore named Thomas Cooke in the presence of Nicholas Phelpes, John Perks, Richard Baker and his marke, Margerie Harris and her marke.
