Richard Pixley of Wightfield, Dereherst, husbandman

 

In ye name of God Amen. The foure and twentith day of April 1623. I Richard Pixley of Wightfield within ye parish of Dereherst in the County of Glocester husbandman sicke in body but of good and perfect memory laud and prayse be given unto allmighty God doe make and ordayne this my last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge. That is to say. First I comend my soule into ye hands of allmighty God my maker hopinge assuredly through ye merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to be made partaker of everlastinge life, And I comend my body to the earth wherof it was made. Item I give and bequeath to my son Richard all my whole tacke yt doth belonge to my husbandry to be delyvered presently after my decease. And further I doe give unto my sayd son my Mustmill, scrues, and all the house over the mill wth the houell adioyninge to ye same house, the Cerbe of the well, the Ceston, the maltmill, the two cubbords standinge in the hall the boord in the chamber, the boord in the hall, wth all the inner doors the windowe leaves, and all the hanginge shelves in the houses m but my wife shall have the use of these things duringe her life. further I give and bequeath unto him my sayd son six bushels of barley to be delyvered presently after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Henery Pixley my Godson xiijli vjs and viijd in money to be payd presently after my decease to ye overseers, by them to be put unto ye best use and benefit for him, and by them to be payd unto him so soone as hee by Lawe may make an acquittance for the receipt thereof into his owne hands. And further I give unto my said Godson Henery Pixley my new bedstead standinge in the chamber where I lye with one fetherbed and my best coverlid and my greate pott, but my wife shall have the use of them duringe her life. Item I give and bequeath unto Joane Pixley my sons daughter vjli xiijs and iijd in money to be payd presently after my decease unto ye overseers by them to be put unto ye best use and benefit for her, and by the sayd overseers to be delyvered wth what they shall have therby gained unto her the sayd Joane so soone as by lawe shee may give a sufficient acquittance for ye receipt therof and theyr safe discharge. And I further give and bequeath unto the sayd Joane Pixley my litle brasse pan, one flocke bed with a bolster and a coverlid and a payre of hempen sheetes, but my wife shall have the use of the same duringe her life. Item I give unto Thomas Pixley my sons son the sume of five pounds in money to bee payd within one yeare after my deceasse to ye overseers, by them to bee put forth for his use and benefit, and by the sayd overseers to be payd unto ye said Thomas Pixley into his owne hands so soone as by Lawe hee shalbe of yeares to give an acquittance unto them for the receipt therof and theyr safe discharge. Item I give unto Alice Pixley my sons daughter the sume of five pounds in money to bee payd within one yeare after my deceasse to the overseers, by them to bee put forth for her best use and benefit, and by ye sayd overseers to bee payd unto the sayd Alice Pixley my sons daughtr into her owne hands, so soone as by lawe she shalbe of yeares to give an acquittance for ye receipt therof and for theyre discharge. Moreovr it is my will that if eythr Henery Pixley, or Joane, or Thomas, or Alice my sons children shall decease before such tyme as the Legacy by this my will bequeathed unto them shall come into theyr hands yt then ye sayd Legacy with the benefit therby gained shalbe equally divided unto the rest of these children that shall remayne alive, and be added unto theyr owne for theyr use and benefit. Provided allwayes that if the overseers To whom the sayd legacyes at ye tyme appointed are to be delyvered / shall for want of good and sufficient security keepe the money in theyr owne hands till they can safely and securely put the same forth, they shall for that voyde tyme bee liable to ye payment of no interest. Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Joanes daughter forty shillings to bee payd wthin two yeares after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my servant William Sutton one chilver hogge. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Richard my best suite of wearinge cloathes and my cloake. Item I give and bequeath unto my cousin Thomas Pixley my second wearinge suite of cloathes. Item I give and bequeath unto the poore of the parish of Derehuerst xxs to bee distributed by my overseers wthin one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Woodley and unto his son John vs a peece to bee payd wthin one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto John Mason my Godson iijs iiijd to bee payd wthin one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Grindle my Godson ijs to bee payd wthin one yeare after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto Richard Cuerton my Godson xijd to be payd wthin one yeare after my decease. Item I give towards ye repayringe of Dereherst church xs to bee payd wthin one yeare after my decease. Item all the rest of my goods and chattels, moveable and unmoveable ungiven and unbequeathed, my debts and legacies payd, my funerall expences discharges I do five and bequeath to Francis my wife, whom I doe make my whole and sole executrix of this my last will and Testament. And furthr I doe appoynt my welbeloved in Christ Edmond Morton and William Milton to bee my overseers to see this my last will and testament prformed and don, and for theyr paynes and care taken of my love I bequeath unto eyther of them iijs and iiijd. In witness herof I have hereunto put my hand and seale ye day and yeare first above written.
