Richard Bradford of Tewkesbury, gentleman

In the name of God Amen, The one and twentyeth day of January in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred forty and six, I Richard Bradford of Tewkesbury in the Dioces of Cloucr Gent being sicke and weake in body but of good memory and understanding (I give God thankes therefore) doe make and ordayne this my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and forme following Inprimis I give and bequeath my soule into the hands of Allmighty God my maker and Creator, and of Jesus Christ my redeemer, an the holy spiritt my Comforter being assured through the meritts of my said redeemer of the remission of my sinns and salvation of my soule, And as for my worldly estate whereof it hath pleased God to make me a steward I give and dispose thereof as followeth, Inprimis I give and bequeath unto my sonne Joseph Bradford the North part of my messuage or tenement with the apptennces in which part I now dwell and which I heretofore purchased of one Richard Gilding of London together with all the wainscote bedsteads table boards and frames benches and such like standards now remayning in or about the North part of the house wherein I now live, which standards my will and meaning shall be annexed to the freehold and remayne as heirelomes to my said house for ever To have and to hold the said North part of my messuage with the standards and apptennces from and imediately after my decease unto my saide sonne Joseph Bradford for and during the terme of his naturall life, And from and after his decease Then to and for the use and behoofe of Richard Bradford eldest sonne of the saide Joseph Bradford and to the heires of his body lawfully to be begotten for ever, And for want of such issue Then to and for the use and behoofe of Joseph Bradford second sonne of my saide sonne Joseph and the heires of his body lawfully begotten for ever, And for want of such issue Then to and for the use and behoofe of Hester Bradford Anne Bradford and Elizabeth Bradford the now three daughters of my saide sonne Joseph Bradford, and the heires of their bodyes to be begotten for ever, And for want of such issue, to the right heires of me the said Richard Bradford for ever more, Item I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Joseph Bradford the south part of my messuage or tenemt with thapptences now in his occupacon, To have and to hold the said south part of the said messuage with thapptences unto my said sonne Joseph Bradford for and during the terme of his naturall life, And from and after his decease, Then to and for the use and behoofe of Hester Bradford now wife of the said Joseph Bradford for and during the terme of her naturall life And from and after her decease, Then to and for the use and behoofe of the said Joseph Bradford second sonne of my saide sonne Joseph Bradford and Hester his wife and the heires of his body lawfully to be begotten for ever, And for want of such issue Then to and for the use and behoofe of the saide Richard Bradford sonne of the saide Joseph Bradford and Hester his wife and the heires of his body lawfully begotten for ever, And for want of such issue Then to and for the use and behoofe of the said Hester Bradford Anne Bradford and Elizabeth Bradford the three daughters of the saide Joseph Bradford before named and the heires of their bodyes lawfully to be begotten for ever, And for want of such issue, Then to and for the use and behoofe of the right heires of me the said Richard Bradford for evermore, Item I give and bequeath unto the said three daughters Hester Bradford Anne Bradford and Elizabeth Bradford and the heires of their bodyes lawfully to be begotten for ever, all my messuage or tenement with thapptennces at the Reye in Tewkesbury, which I lately purchased of Edward Millichepp gent deceased, Item I give unto the said three daughters Hester Anne and Elizabeth the summe of one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto them by equall porcons at their severall ages of eighteene yeares out of a certaine debt due unto me from Mr Edwyn Baldwyn of Twyning in the said County of Gloucr, And in the meane time to contynue or be sett forth at interest according to the discretion of my Overseers here after named or the survivor of them, And the profitts or benefitt thereby arising in the meane time to be paid to my said sonne Joseph Bradford for the better mayntenance and education of the said three daughters, And if either of the said three daughters happen to die before they attayne their said age of eighteene yeares Then my will and meaning is that her or their part or porcon of the said one hundred pounds (soe dying) shall be equally devided betweene the survivor or survivors of them Provided allwayes that if any or either of the said three daughters shall happen to intermarry before their said age of eighteene yeares without the consent and approbacon of the said Joseph Bradford and Hester his wife or the survivor of them, That then her or their part or porcon of the said one hundred pounds soe intermarrying without such consent shall be and remayne to the sole and proper use and behoofe of my said sonne and Executor Joseph Bradford Item I give and bequeath unto my said grandchild Richard Bradford my best featherbedd my two best feather pillowes, my two best feather bolsters, one faire covering, Color greene and shamell in graine one double blackett, one greene rugg, one paire of flaxen sheeres four paire of hempen sheets my silver beere boule marked with the letters R:B: and two silver spoones with greate guilt ends Item I give and bequeath unto my said grandchild Richard Bradford my great copper furnace after the decease of my said sonne and Executor, onely my said sonne in the meane time to have the use of the said furnace for his owne private occasions and not otherwise, Item I give and bequeath unto the said five children of my said sonne and Executor my five brasse pannes, each of them one according to the goodnes of the said panns and the senioritie of the said children, Provided allwayes that my said sonne and Executor shall have the use of them to serve his owne occasions during his life making noe willfull spoyle thereof Item I give unto each of the said three daughters of my said sonne and Executor, one feather bedd one paire of flaxen sheets, two paire of hempen sheetes and one covering a peece, Item I give unto my said daughter in law Hester Bradford my other silver beere boule to be at her owne disposing, item I give unto my said grandchilde Joseph Bradford and his said three sisters three silver spoones a peece to be delivered in goodnes according to their senioritie and age Item I give unto Joan Hillier my servant the old feather bed and feather boulster whereon she lyeth, one paire of old sheetes one pair of hurden sheetes and the two old coverings on the bed Provided allwayes that if the said Johan doe not remayne a servant with me during my naturall life, Then the said guift to be void Item I give unto my ancient servant Richard Hancks the sume of twenty shillings Item I give unto my brother Rowland Pewteresse the sume of forty shillings and all my wearing apparrell (except my best shute) Item I give to the poore of Tewkesbury forty shillings to be devided amongest them according to the discretion of my said Executor, Item I give unto Theophilus Alye my great dripping pann, And whereas my sonny-lawe William Baldwyn was justly indebted unto me in the sume of fourscore and ten pounds which money upon sealing of a release unto him, he my said sonney-law did pmise and agree to pay unto his children according as by my last Will and testament I should lymitt and appoynt, I doe declare my will and meaning to be that the said fourscore and tenn pounds shall be paid by my said sonny-law to his children by equall porcons within two yeares after my decease, All the rest of my goods Cattells and Chattells both reall and personall moveable and unmoveable my debts being paid and my funerall expences dischardged I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Joseph Bradford, whome I make sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament, And I desire and appoynt my loving Cozen Mr John Millington, and my sonny-lawe Mr William Alye to be my Overseers to see this my last Will and Testament in all things well and truly performed according to my true intent and meaning, and to reconcile any differences that shall or may arise touching or concerning the same, and doe give to my said Cozen John Millington my Signett Ring with the flower de luce Armes and the lres T:B: and to my sonney-lawe William Alye my booke Called the booke of Martirs in lieu of their paynes and care to be taken therein Witnes my hand and seale the day and yeare abovesaid / Richard
