Edmund Butt of Priors Norton, yeoman

 

February vijth 1654.

Theis Presents doe testifie that I Edmund Butt of Priors Norton within the Countie of the Cittie of Gloucester yeoman Considering the mutability and uncerteinty of this life doe make and ordeine this my last Will and Testament in manner & forme following First I Comitt my soule to Allmightie God trusting on his mercie by and through the Merritts of Jesus Christ my Saviour and Redeemer to have my sins pardoned and my soule forever blessed and glorified in Heaven And I doe yeild my body to the Earthe when it shall please God by Deathe to separate my soule from my Bodie And as for my worldlie Goods I doe give and Bequeathe them in manner and hereafter expressed – Inprimis I doe                      bequeathe to Elizabeth Butt my now wife twoe Acres of meadowe ground lyeing and being in the meadowe                   to the Demainds in the Parish of Norton in the County aforesaid the one Acre called and knowne by the name of or being in the Millhey Furlong And the other Acre lyeing and being in Oxley Furlong both which said Acres I give and bequeathe to my now wife for the tearme of her naturall life Item I give and bequeathe unto John Butt my sonne and to his Children after him a Lease of Land and meadowe called and knowne by the Name of the Demaynes for him to have the same within one whole yeare net after my Decease provided that he shall pay the summe of twentie pounds as followeth That is to say to Allice Ludlowe my daughter being the Wife of James Ludlowe of London for her own and her childrens use the sume of twentie pounds and the same to be paied the sume of tenne pounds within twoe yeares after my decease And the other tenne pounds to be paied within three yeares after my decease – Moreover it is my will that my sonne John Butt shall duely paie & discharge the sume of twenty six shillings and eight pence yearlye being to be paied to And for the said Demaines Provided And I doe ordeine that if my sonne John Butt shall not pay the same aforesaid twentye pounds then shall the Lands called the Demaines remaine in the hands of my wife for the Tearme of three yeares after my decease therewith to paie the same twentye pounds for the use of my daughter Allice Ludlowe and her Children Item I give and bequeathe to Mary Ludlowe the sum of twenty pounds of lawfull money to be paied when shee shall come to the Age of eighteene yeares Item I give and bequeathe to Edmond Butt my sonne the sume of twentye shillings and to his sonne Edmond Butt twentye shillings and to his sonne Beniamine tenne shillings and to his Daughter Elizabeth tenne shillings Item I give and bequeathe unto the twoe Children of John Butt that is to Elizabeth & Sara Butt to eache of them twentie shillings a peece Item I give to Edmond Ludlow and James Ludlowe of London my Grandchildren to eache of them twentye shillings a peece Item I give to Thomas Greenway my sonne in lawe five shillings and to his twoe Children Thomas and Elizabeth Greenway to eache of them tenne shillings a peece Item I give to my Daughter Rebecca Greenway tenne shilling Item I give to my sonne in lawe James Ludlowe twoe shillings six pence Item I give and bequeathe to the poore people of this parishe to eache of poor Family the sume of twoe shillings Provided that none shall have any which doe sett out money on usurie Item all my Carts Plowes Harrowes and all other things being the Tacke belonging to husbandry I doe give it all to My twoe sonnes Edmond Butt and John Butt to be equally devided betweene them Provided that my Wife shall have the use of it for the tearme of my naturall life Item I give and bequeathe to Edmond Palmer of Gloucester schoolmaster tenne shillings And alsoe a Bushell of wheate All the Rest of my goods Chatles and Cattles whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeathe to Elizabeth my now Wife whome I doe make my whole Executrix of this my last Will and testament to that end to see my funerall & Debts duely discharged And I doe hereby renounce and revoke all former Wills and Testaments In Witness whereof I the abovenamed Edmund Butt have hereunto sett my hand and seale thes seaventh Daie of Februarye in the yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred fiftie foure 1654. / Edmund Butt his marke / Sealed subscribed in the presence of Ann Kenrick Edmund Palmer Scriptr

 

The twoe and twentith daie of August in the yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fiftye five Lres of Administracon issued forth unto Edmond Butt the naturall and lawfull sonne of the abovenamed Edmond Butt deceased to administer the Goods Chattles and Debts of the sayd deceased according to the Tenor and effect of his Will above written Hee the said Edmond Butt (the younger) being first sworne by virtue of a Comission well and truly to administer the same. / Elizabeth Butt the Relict of the said deceased and sole Executrix named in the said Will having alsoe departed this life before shee tooke upon her the Execution thereof.
