In the name of god Amen xxveth day of November I Edmonde But of the Ligh in the diocesse of Gloucr, husband man / Although sycke in bodye, nevrthelesse of good & prfect memorye thanks be to god doe make my testament And last wyll in manr & forme folowynge / fyrst I comende my Soule into ye hands of almyghtie god my maker And Redemer & my bodye to thearth to be buryed in the churchyarde of ye Lye (aforesayd) As tuchynge ye destrybucon of my temporall goods / Fyrst I bequeth to the pore mans chest one bushell of barley / Also I bequeth to John Shryche one bushell of barly / Item I bequeath to Edmund But my brothers sonne one yewe shepe / Item I bequeth to Rycharde But my brothers Wyllym Butts sonne, one yewe shepe / item I bequeth to ye same Wyllm But my brother, my boots / Item I bequeth to evry of my other bretheren, namely Rychard But &  John But viis apece & my olde boate between them / Item I bequeath to Edward But my sonne vli of good curannt englysh money my baye mare of three yeres old & iiij shepe in recompence of three sheepe yt hys grannfather gave hym / Item I bequeth to Robte But my sonne, syxe li xiijs iiijd of lawfull money of englande my Redde mares calfe & viij ix shepe, in Recompence of one shepe yt hys grannfather bequeathed to hym / Also I wyll y my (foresayd) sonne Edwarde dooe content & paye to my (Aforenamed) sonne John ye yearly Rentte of Knowles Grounde wch John Screven nowe occupiethe / durynge the terme of All those yeres. I wyll that my sonne Edward But doo make Seal & delyvr to ye sayd John But hys brother: A lease of ye same grownde / for & durynge ye whole terme of xxj yeres then next folowynge / for ye yerely Rentte nowe usually payd. Item I bequeath to Elenor But my daughter xli of englyshe corant money, a flocke bedde, a bolster, & three shepe, in Recompence of on shepe that her granmother gave hyr / Item I bequeath to Elyzabeth But my daughter syxeli xiijs iiijd of good lawfull money of englande & two shepe in Restitucon of one shepe yt was hyr granndames gyft / also I bequeath to Mrgery But my daughter / vjli xiijs iiijd of good & lawfull money of England, my whytt faced coltte & ij shepe in Recompense of one shepe, beynge ye gyft of hyr brother Robtte Butts / And Soole executrix of thys my last wyll & testament I ordayne & make Joane But my wyffe / to whom I gyve for her paynes takynge therinto syxe li xiijs iiijd of good corannt englyshe money, iiij of my pryncypall Kyne, corne to fynd her house & to sowe ye ground, my Redd mare, vj yewe shepe & all my implements of householde, except begore gyven / All ye Resydue of my goods yf any be Remaynynge ovr & above yt I have before geven, I wyll to be destrybuted to suche of my Afore named children as shalbe thought good to my ovrseers namely Edmond But & John Wylton (my bloved in Christ): whom I put in trust to see the execution of thys my last wyll & testament & Also I wyll that my brother John But shall have ye tuycyon & govrnnce of my son John But (durynge the tyme hys non age) to bring hym uppe in ye nurture & informacon of or lorde god and also to Fynde him / all other aliments necessary / in consideracon whereof my sayd brother John But shall have thoccupacon of hys portion except ye yearly Rent aforesaid, to be Reserved to hys owne profytts from tyme to tyme / the same John But my brother entryng into such bond (to my executrixe) to delvr the same goods to my sayd sonne John But, in thend of his non age / As shalbe thought good to my ovrseers / & yf ye same John my sonne doo decease before he be able, by inst accompt, to make a wyll: yt then hys portion shalbe geven to the nedyest of my other children, then survyvyng / att ye dyscrcon of my ovrseers / And further I wyll & desire my ovrseers (as they tender ye Reward  of evrlastinge life, purchassyd by gods mrcy in Christ for All them yt worke in hym) to be an ayde unto my wyffe & to my yonger daughter / wch daughter & her portion, I wyll, to remayne wth my (sayd) wiffe durynge ye tyme of hyr non age / & also I wyll yt my (sayd) overseers shall place ye Rest of my chyldren (namely / Edward, Robt, Elenor & Elyzabeth) at theyr good dyscrecon wth ye consent of my wife / & also to see yt they may have theyr portions at such tyme as the shalbe able (honestly & wyttely) to occupye ye same / & likewise, yf any of my chyldren last nominated do decease before they be able to make a wyll (as aforsayd) yt then ye portion or portions of hym, her, or them soe deceassyd shalbe gyven to such of them / then survivyng / as shalbe thought good to my ovrseers as is aforesaid Wytnesses herof John Daves with these Thomas Hawker, Wyllm But & John But wth other
