William infant son of Jacob Vertegans & Judith his wife was buried

N:B: On the 17th Decembr the Register-Tax was paid up to the first of October in this year.

James Burton Labourer resident in Dymock but a legal Parishioner of Bromsberrow died at Newent (where he was placed by the Overseer under a Surgeon’s care for cure of a wounded hand) & was buried aged 33 years

Hannah Roberts a Daughter of the late John Robertson Carpenter of Deerhurst in this County & of Anne his wife (daughter of Elizabeth Croker of this Parish by her first Husband Joseph Deveral) died of an inward decay January the sixteenth & was buried aged 21 years

19 January

Jane, only surviving Child of Mr John Williams (Citizen of London but now resident in Ledbury) died of a Consumption at the Lower Brookend April the fifteenth & was buried, aged 21 years

20 April

George Barksdale, Carpenter (grandson of Charlton Barksdale Cler mentioned in the account of burials for the year 1785) possess’d of a small freehold Estate at Ryton died May 20th & was buried aged 56 years

She was a daughter of Michael Sparrow, formerly Parish Clerk & Widow of Clement Barksdale, a Carpenter.  She died of a malignant fever on the 6th instt

Thomas Phillips (many years Tenant of Hopes-Yale in this Parish who received relief from Eastnor in which he had a legal settlement) was buried aged 74

16 September

Elizabeth the Widow of Edward Croker was buried, in her ninetieth year

25 October

William Woodward formerly Clerk of this Parish was buried, in his ninetieth year

Buried Elizabeth Beale Widow late Tenant of Woores Farm in Dymock in her eighty-second year.
N.B. her single name was Fosbury, she was a servant to Coll Yate, & married twice: 1st to her fellow servant John Nurbury & afterwards to Robert Beale.

5 April

Mary the wife of Joseph Whittle, Labourer, was buried aged 35
N.B. she died whilst hay-making, from the heat of the weather.

Esther the wife of John Eaves Labourer was buried aged 71

William Symonds late a Gentleman’s Servant in London, eldest Son of Peter & Elizabeth Symonds, died of a Consumption, for which he had been a Patient in St Bartholomew’s Hospital & was buried aged 28

Richard Child from the Dymock side of Bromsberrow-Heath was buried aged 89

22 May

Sarah the daughter of Mr Robert Hartland Tenant of Great Lintridge Farm in Dymock & of Deborah his wife (a Daughter of the late Mr William Weale) was buried here, aged 3 years.

4 June

Benjamin infant son of William Davies Labourer (an Inhabitant of Poor’s-House) & of Anne his Wife was buried

14 June

Thomas infant son of George Child Labourer of Dymock & of Sarah his Wife was buried

John Mason Labourer was buried, aged 60

Mary the wife of John Hardman was buried aged 44

John Hardman was also buried aged 50 years

Mem: This worthy couple fell a sacrifice to their prejudices against Inoculation for the small-pocks, having died of that disorder caught in the natural way: the circumstance is here mention’d, as a warning to others not to commit a similar error.  Four of their Children were at the same time afflicted with this malady & the two Sons narrowly escaped the same fate.

Elizabeth the wife of Peter Symonds died December the twenty-seventh aged 61 & was buried

John Hartland (placed at the Green-House as a Parish Apprentice from Dymock) was buried aged 9 years

8 February

John Williams Gentn of Ledbury died almost suddenly on the 15th of April, aged 65 & was buried here
n.b. He was a Native of Herefordsh: had acquired a fortune by commerce in London & had for some years retired to Ledbury.

20 April

Elizabeth, Daughter of the late Clement & Sarah Barksdale (see page 24) & wife of William Cheshire, Labourer of the Dymock side of Bromsberrow-Heath was buried, aged 34

1 May

Mr George Rodway was brought from London & buried aged 76.
N.B. He was a native of this Parish & had lately purchased a freehold estate here, having acquired a fortune in the Capital.

11 July

Edward the son of the late Edward Fowler Carpenter died of a Consumption at Ryton, & was buried here aged 22
N.b. He had been in the Army & was discharged from a military Hospital as incurable.

18 July

Anne infant daughter of Joseph Hill Gentleman, Attorney at Law of the Town of Newent, died there on August the twenty-first & was buried here

Thomas Terrett Gentn died at the Rectory-House on 1st of February aged 74 & was buried at Ridmarley

Anne infant daughter of Thos Thacway Labourer & of Elizabeth his wife was buried

23 April

John Lucy junr Servant in Husbandry, was buried by authority from the Coroner aged 15 Mem: he was overthrown & killed by a Team of Horses at Aston Ingham, Herefordshire July 10th & was interred here

Mr Thomas Shipton many years Tenant of Brownsend Farm, died at little Lintridge, aged 80 & was buried here

6 May

Mrs Elizabeth Loveridge, Widow, died at Ryton May the 12th aged 89 & was buried here. Mem: She was Daughter of the late Richard Brooke, Gentn of Russels-end by his wife, a Daughter of the Revd Richard Eaton, Senr, formerly Rector of this Parish.

15 May

John Pullen, Labourer, who had for many years received relief from the Parish was buried aged 80

Mr Thomas Hope died at Newent May 26th aged 25 & was buried here

Mary the daughter of James Howell of the Pepper-Mill & of Comfort his wife was buried aged six years & a half

Catherine-Burland daughter of Walter-Honywood Yates of Bromsberrow-Place Esqr & of Margaret his Wife died September the eighteenth, aged fifteen weeks & two days & was buried by the Revd James Watts B.A. Curate of Ledbury

25 September

Mr Josiah Tibbatts, Tenant of Bromsberrow Court Farm, died of a dropsy on November the 4th & was buried aged 69 years

10 November

Martha Shipton Widow of Mr Thomas Shipton formerly Tenant of Bromsberrow Farm, died at Dymock December the ninth, aged 79 years & was buried here. She was a Daughter of Mr White, some time Tenant of the Manor Estate

Sarah Nokes, Widow, Sister of Joseph Stone (possessed of a freehold Estate at the bottom of Bromsberrow Heath) afterwards of Joseph Nokes Labourer was buried, aged sixty seven years.

John Burlow an illegitimate Infant was burnt to Death by being incautiously left without proper companion & was brought from Ledbury to beburied here

16 February

Robert-Gorges Dobyns-Yate, a Student of St John’s College, Cambridge, died of a decline at Dingwood-Park on June the sixth & was was buried here, aged twenty years

Mem: She was only Daughter of William Honywood Esqr: of Malling-Abbey in the County of Kent, Sister to Sir John Honywood Bart of Evington-Court in the same County & to William Kongswood Esqr: the present Representative in Parliament for the said County.

William Phillips (a Son of the late Thomas Phillips of Hopes-Yate) Labourer, died unmarried in the Work-house at Ridmarley, aged fifty-nine years &was buried here

30 December

William the son of Thomas Crockit of Berrow Labourer & of Sarah his wife (eldest Daughter of John Lucy of Hopes-yate) died suddenly there & was buried here
