Lucious Worsham b May 1832 of Crawford,
GA. (35-1870; 50-1880; 5/1832-1900) (Henry L. Moore, 2009)
Lucious is likely the son of
Eliza Worsham "Elija" who was born abt 1816 in VA. She
lived in Crawford Co, GA in 1880 with her son, Thomas Worsham.
According to family history Lucious Worsham's mother and father were born in Georgia,
she a slave and he the white son of the slave owner.
Henry L Moore, 2009, wrote about Lucious Worsham "Papa Worsham":
I have been told for most of my life that Papa Worsham's parents were the slave
owner, Mr. Worsham and a half Indian slave named Elija. Now. I am not sure. Was told by
an older sister that Papa Worsham was the plantation owner's son but Cousin Mattie (who
is 106 years old now, and remembers well) says it was the old man Worsham. The
father probably was the slave owner himself. I note where Florine, my oldest sister, and
the historian of the family, said it was the owner, not his son. That needs more study.
If Lucious is the son of a slave owner, his father may be David G Worsham b 22 Feb 1800
of Amelia, Virginia & he d 20 Oct 1853 Crawford, GA. In the 1850 Division 20,
Crawford, Georgia Slave schedule he is D G Worsham with 17 male slaves. David's
son, John A Worsham, is in 1870 Beasley, Crawford, Georgia census, the same county
Lucious was living in 1870. David G Worsham is on
page 311.
Lucious is in the 1870 Beasley, Crawford, Georgia census with the last name of Wisham.
