1.1. William Worsham b abt 1762 of Amelia, VA.  He was on Page 561 as 1.  Edward Worsham.  William died abt 1844 in Putnam, GA. Descendants lived in Baldwin Co, GA; Richmond Co, GA; Putnam Co, GA.

William probably married twice. He m 1st) unknown and may have had 9 children. He is on the 1813 Putnam Co GA Tax Roll as William Worsham, neighbors are: John Fleming, Stephen Parker, Abner Wells, Fanny Gilbert, Jonathan Brooks, & Joseph Cooper.

William is in the 1820 Capt Wm Jernigan's District (p 84) Putnam Co, GA cens, as William Wosham Sr b bef 1775, 1m b 1804-10, 1m b 1802-04, 1 f 1804-10, 1f 1802-04, 1f bef 1775, nearby are Joseph Cooper Jr, Jese Harrison, George King, Richard Carnier?, John Brooks, Warren Jackson.

William is also in the 1830 Capt Stephen Williams District, Putnam Co, GA census as William Worsham b 1760-1770, 2m b 1825-30, 1 m b 1820-25, 1m b 1815-20, 1 m b 1800-10, 2 f b 1825-30, 2 f b 1815-20, 1f b 1800-10, 1f b 1790-1800, p184 nearby Thomas Perdew, Lucian B Harris, ? He is in the 1840 District 310, Putnam Co, GA census (p197) as William Washam b 1760-1770, 2m b 1830-35, 1m b 1820-25, 1f b 1825-30, 1f b 1820-25, 1 f 1790-1800. Neighbors were: Luris Lynch, William Hall, Christopher Dusdred?, James M Lawrence.

In Hancock Co, GA, 40000 Early GA Marriages was William Worsham m Frances Wagby 12 Mar 1823. Her name is probably Frances A. Wagby who was b abt 1793 NC.  Frances A. & her children: Mary Ann Worsham Brooks, Caroline Worsham Jeffers & John Wisham are in the 1850 Millidgeville, Baldwin Co, GA census (p 100) living close to Anderson Wisham (p. 99) a possible relative.  She is in the 1860 Baldwin Co, GA cens, Asa O. Jeffers as Francis Worsham age 67 b NC.  Asa m her dau Caroline Worsham.  Believe she is also listed in the 1860 Putnam Co, GA census, p 410 as F. A. Wosham age 67 b NC living with a step daughter, Edney G. Favor, age 44 b GA.

William died abt 1844 of Putnam Co, GA and Frances and their children moved to Baldwin Co, GA.  In History of Baldwin County, Georgia. Cook, Anna Maria Green, Anderson, SC Keys-Hearn Print Co. 1925, p 317.

"Ellison-Brooks. In 1845, Nicholas Beauchel Brooks, Jerry Fowler, John Ferrell, Acey Jeffres, Clayton Vaughn, Willis Vaughn, and Ras Vaughn came to Milledgeville, from Cherokee County, when these young men were about twenty one years old. About the same time Frances Worsham, a widow with her three sons, Joe Urbin and John and two daughters, Caroline and Mary, came from Putnam County to settle in Milledgeville. Two years late, Nicholas Brooks and Mary Worsham were married. William Vinson Ellison came to Milledgeville from Cherokee county while a young man. This was about the year 1830. He married a Miss Hass, who lived only a few years, leaving three children. William Ellison, then married Theressa Boutwell, a daughter of Chappel Boutwell and Hannah Micklejohn Boutwell. Adolphius Leroy Ellison was a son of this second marriage and was married to Anna Brooks, a daughter of Nicholas Brooks and Mary Worsham Brooks, in the year 1870."

In Mecklenburg Co, NC Court of pleas, 17 Nov 1817 Mecklenburg, NC; Administration of the estate of Joseph Stephens granted to Thomas Ives and he gave bond with Humphrey Linster and Aplin Worsham in L500 and he qualified and obtained letters of administration: Volentine Hage security of Polly Lane surrendered her to the court in discharge of himself: State vs. William Hill.

They are in the 1830 Jackson Co, GA census (p364) as Appling Worsham b 1780-90, 1 m 1815-20, 1 f 1815-20, 2 f 1810-15, 1 f 1780-90. (nearby John Worsham b 1800-1810)

An indenture made 27 Mar 1824 between Applin Worsham of one part & Memmemon Pound, Sr. of second part both of Putnam Co, GA. Applin sold to Merremon Pound for $215 a tract of land being in Putnam Co consisting of 62 acres which was part of Lot No. 202 in the 14th district originally Baldwin Co now Putnam Co beginning on the district line at a post oak corner running south, etc Wit. Joseph Stanford & Jonathan Harkness. Applin Worsham signed his X mark. On 9 Aug 1828 Joseph Stanford declared he saw Applin sign his name.

Applin Worsham is in the Putnam Co (GA) residents fortunate drawers of the 1832 Lottery. Appling Worsham had a letter remaining in the Post Office at Eatonton, GA on 1 Jan 1835 & 13 Jan 1835.

He m 2nd) Mrs. Elizabeth Strickland 5 Aug 1840 Thomas Co, GA. In the 1840 Duncanville, Thomas Co, GA census he is Aplin Worshan b 1790-1800, 2m b 1830-35, 1f b 1835-40, 2f b 1830-35, 1f b 1790-1800, 304, neighbors include his son Mitchell Worsham & Daniel McIntire, Daniel McKinnon, James Barnes, Edward Crosby.

On 31 Jan 1844 Thomas Co, GA between Applin Worsham & Elizabeth Worsham & Lauchlin L. Morrison & Angus Morrison promissory note. Promised to pay Lauchlin L. Morrison & Angus Morrison $1000 on or before 1 Jan next ensuing in consideration of four charged to Applin. Sold to Lauchlin L. Morrison & Angus Morrison all of tract of land situate and being in the 23 district of original Early now Thomas Co part of lands containing 160 Acres out of said tract by commissed as the ----of

Elizabeth Strickland widow together with three head of horses to wit one grey mare and an old filly 3 years old and one bay filly one year old also 22 head of stock cattle, 40 head of stock hogs. Wit Mitchell Worsham, Charles Berryhill s/o Aplin Worsham his mark Elizabeth her mark. (Book D2, p 173 Thomas Co, GA FHL Film 164299)

On 8 Jul 1845 Appling Worsham & Elizabeth formerly and before her intermarriage with Applin Worsham, Elizabeth Stricklin of the Co. of Thomas & James J. Vickers Witnesseth Applin Worsham & Elizabeth Worsham for Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars a piece of land in the 23rd District originally Early Co. now Thomas County being West end of lot of land No 6 in said district being 166 & 2/3 acres the same being and assigned and laid off as the dower and thirds of Elizabeth Worsham in her widowhood and while the widow of John Strickland, dec being then Elizabeth Strickland. Wit Martin Chester, John C. Browning (Thomas Co Deeds Book D2 p 369)

He is in the 1850 Gadsden Co, Florida census as Appling Wishon age 50 b VA. In the 16 Jun 1856 Florida Land Records, he is Applan Wisham in Tallahassee (Leon Co) with 79.89 acres. In the 1860 Gadsden Co, FL census he is Appling Worsham age 60 b SC.

1.1A.2. Robert Washam b abt 1789. Robert m Keziah Rictehledge 28 Jan 1818 Putnam Co, GA. He is not in 1820 Putnam Co, GA census. In the 1830 St Clair Co, AL census (p247) are Robert Washam b 1790-1800 & 1m b 1815-20, 2f b 1825-30, 1f 1820-25, 1f b 1790-1800. He is in the 1840 Benton Co, AL census (p48) as Robert Washam b 1790-1800, 1m b 1830-35, 1m b 1825-30, 1f b 1835-40, 1f b 1825-30. In the 1850 St. Clair Co, AL census (p146) he is Robert Washam age 62 b GA.

They are in the 1830 Carroll Co, GA census (p218) as William Worsham b 1790-1800, 2 m b 1825-30, 1m b 1820-25, 2f b 1825-30, 1f b 1800-10, next to Malcombe Johnson, Richard Woodruff, Joseph McBryayer, John Mitchel. 1.1A.8. Edmond Worsham "Edward " b abt 1805 of Putnam, GA. He married Martha bef 1829, apparently had no children. He is in the 1830 Putnam Co, GA census (p 176) as Edward Washam b 1800-1810, 1 f b 1800-10 & the 1840 Dist 308 Putnam Co, GA census (p199) as Edward Worsham b 1800-10, 1 f b 1790-1800, 1f b 1770-1780. Edward Worsham & Martha Worsham were on the Member lists for the Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Putnam Co, GA for Aug 1828 (p 23) 8 Aug 1829 (p 29) & 7 Aug 1830 (p 33) in a book by Marilee Beatty Hageness, 1995. 1.1B.1. Mary Ann Worsham b abt 1820 of Putnam, GA. In the book she is Mary Ann Worsham on page 561 paragraph 1.1.  She m Nicholas Beauchel Brooks 13 Jul 1848 Baldwin, GA. He was b abt 1822 SC. They are in the 1850 Baldwin Co, GA census page 100, as N. B. Brooks 30, Mary 30 GA, John Wisham 15 GA. In the 1860 Baldwin Co, GA cens living together are Nicolas B Brooks 38 SC, Mary A 40 GA, Anna N, E 4 GA & John G Worsham 26 GA. History of Baldwin Co, GA, p 317:

In Green's Company, Georgia Infantry State Guards, "State Armory Guards" Baldwin Co, GA, a company of 57 men, were E C Worsham (Erbin C Worsham), N B Brooks (husband of Mary Ann Worsham).

Mr. Chappel Boutwell, the grandfather of Adolphus L. Ellison, was mayor of Milledgeville when General Sherman was camped in the city..."

Nancy Vickers wrote her will 3 Jun 1828, probated 1 Sep 1828, names dau Elizabeth Boutwell & g-son Chappel Boutwell and his wife Herietta. (Balwin Co, GA wills, p 284) Of interest, see page 300, Charlotte Vickers b abt 1806 m David B. Worsham 4 Sep 1822 in Baldwin Co, GA. In the 1860 Baldwin Co, GA cens. Aldolphus age 11 GA lived with his father, William V. age 43 GA, a butcher & mother, Teressa M 32 GA.

1.1B.2. Joseph Worsham b abt 1824 Eatonton, Putnam, GA. (25-1850; 36-1860; 46-1870)  He m 1^st) Elizabeth Dennis 3 Oct 1847 Baldwin, GA. (Baldwin Co, GA, 37000 Early GA Mrgs) She was b abt 1828 of Greene, GA.  Joseph Wisham, was born in Eatonton, GA, & his wife was Elizabeth Dennis was born in Sparta, GA. (Sarah Wisham Crook, 2001)  Joseph Wisham age 25 GA and his wife, Elizabeth age 23 are in the 1850 Greene Co, GA cens, living with George Dennsis.  Joseph & Elizabeth are in the 1860 Richmond Co, GA census.  He m 2^nd) Mary Ann b abt 1829 GA.  They are in the 1870 Gregg, Edgefield Co, SC census.  Mary Ann died in 1898 at 67 years old & is buried in the Graniteville, Aiken Co, SC Cemetery. He and Nancy are in the 1900 4 Ward Augusta, Richmond Co, GA census. He is William Wisham age 84 in the 1930 Militia Dist 123, Richmond Co, GA census. He is William Wisham age 75 wd in the 1920 Augusta, Richmond, VA census, p 4B & living with his brother, Walter B.

1.1B.2A.2. Mary E. Worsham b abt 1856 of  Richmond, GA. (4-1860; 15-1870)  In 1870 she worked in a cotton mill.

1.1B.2A.3.  Sunsberry Walter Wisham b 16 May 1864, Columbus, Muscogee, GA; d 22 Mar 1936, Augusta, Richmond, GA.(13-1870; 23-1880; b 1855-1900; 47-1910; 55-1920)  He is believed to be the son of Joseph.  He m Martha Walker abt 1878.  She was b abt 1861 in Dry Branch, Aiken, SC & d 1896 of Gregg, Aiken, SC.  Berry Wishum is age 23 in the 1880 Gregg, Aiken, SC census as a cotton mill worker with wife Martha age 19 & dau Deller age 1. They are living with her parents Nathan Walker age 35 & Sarah Walker age 33. Berry Wisham is in the 1900 Gregg, Aiken, SC census age 45 wd b SC with son Berry Wisham, Jr. age 10 b SC. He is age 55 wd in the 1920 Augusta, Richmond, VA census, p 4B. His brother William B. age 75 wd is living with him.  Sarah Wisham Crook, 2001, wrote:

"He died at his home at 1245 Walker Street in Augusta, GA, Mar 22, 1936.  Resided in the city of Augusta 25 years.  He last worked at Globe Cotton Mill in Augusta. Sunsberry is buried at Graniteveill Cemetery, Graniteville, SC.  Funeral was at Second Adventist Church, where he was a member for 40 years. ... he had two daughters, Mrs. Jesse Dickens & Mrs. A. B. Dickens of Augusta.  I have been told by a good source that they married brothers (Dickens).  He also had one half sister, Mrs. Brooks Howell of Bath, SC."

In GA death index is Srnsberry W Wisham d 22 Mar 1936 Richmond, cert. 8626.

(GA death Cert: 025319)  Della m 1^st) Alfred Beard abt 1893 of Gregg, Aiken, SC.  Alfred, the son of William & Eliza Beard, was b Jan 1871 of Sleepy Hollow, Aiken, SC.  Della & Alfred were in the 1900 Gregg, Aiken, SC census. He was b Jan 1871 m. 8 years & Della b Dec 1878 m. 8 years 2 children 1 living. They are in the 1910 Silverton twp., Aiken, SC census. He is age 39 b SC m 16 years & Della is age 30 m 16 years 7 children 5 living. Della m 2nd) A. B. Dickens.  He d before 1930. She is a widow in the 1930 Augusta, Richmond, GA census as Della Dickens age 51 b SC working in a cotton mill, with a son, Frank B. Beard age 22 b SC & dau-in law Maude L age 29 b GA & g-dau Francis Beard age 7 months b GA.   Della m 2^nd) A. B. Dickens.  He d before 1930.  She is a widow in the 1930 Augusta, Richmond, GA census: Della Dickens age 51 b SC working in a cotton mill, with a son, Frank B. Beard age 22 b SC & dau in law Maude L. age 29 b GA and g-dau Francis Beard age 7/12 b GA.

1.1B.2A.3.2.  Lula Wisham b Sep 1880 of Greg, Aiken, SC. (29-1910; 38-1920; 49-1930) She m Jesse Dickens abt 1904. They are in the 1900 Fulton Co, GA census, p 9A. He is age 24 & she is listed as Maud b Sep 1880 age 19. They are in the 1910 Butts, Jenkins, GA census, p 112A. He is Jessie Dickens age 36 b GA m 6 years & Lula is age 29 m 6 years 2 children 1 living. They are in the 1930 Militia District 1635, Jenkins Co, GA census as Jesse Dickens age 64 b GA, Lula age 49 b SC, and son Audrey age 19 b GA.

1.1B.2A.3.3.  William Earnest Wisham b 22 Apr 1887 of Richmond, GA; d 20 Jul 1958, Aiken, Aiken, SC. He m Annie Franklin who was b 25 Aug 1886 Aiken, SC (13-1900 b Aug 1886) d/o Milledge Franklin & Mildred Holley & d 26 Jul 1967. (Sarah Wisham Crook, 2005) William was a boss for Seminole Mill, Clearwater. They are on the 1910 Longley, Aiken, SC census. He is Earnest Wisham age 20 b SC & Annie is age 23 with a baby son 5 months. They are in the 1920 Langley, Aiken, SC census, p 7B. He is Ernest Wishum age 32 b SC. Annie is age 33 b SC. They are in the 1930 Langley, Aiken, SC census. He is listed as W. Earnest Worsham age 42 m age 21 b SC. Annie is age 43 m age 22 b SC.  Sarah Wisham Crook, 2005 stated they lived in Bath, Aiken, SC and he is bur at Langley cem, Langley, Aiken, SC.

Three articles have been found in the The Atlanta Constitution newspaper about James (Seville is in Wilcox Co, GA):

The Atlanta Constitution Mar 6 1905, p3: 

"Cordele, Ga. March 5, Seville, a town 14 miles east of Cordele, was the scene of a serious, if not fatal, shooting affray last night, in which Jim Worsham shot down W. C. Hamilton. The wounded man is said to be in a serious condition and may not recover. The weapon used was a double-barreled shotgun, loaded with buckshot, and nine shot took effect. It is said that the shooting was the result of Hamilton's attentions to Mrs. Worsham. Both parties live in Seville, where Worsham is a contractor and Hamilton runs a bar. Further information is hard to obtain, and it is not known whether or not Worsham has been arrested."

The Atlanta Constitution Mar 7 1905, p7:

"W. C. Hamilton, who was shot by Jim Worsham, at Seville, Saturday night, was not as seriously wounded as first reported. He was hit only in the feet and legs, and will soon recover. Worsham has not been arrested, and it is said to be not likely that he will be."

The Atlanta Constitution Mar 9 1905, p 5:

"In a report aft the shooting affray in which Jim Worsham shot down W. C. Hamilton, it was alleged that the tragedy grew out of the former's attentions to Hamilton's wife. It is now said by those who are in a position to know that the trouble arouse over some misunderstanding and that Mr. Hamilton was not connected in the matter in any way whatsoever."

James died before 1910 as Mary, age 38 is a widow in the Ben Hill Co, GA census living with her sister, Sallie Bundrick age 28 b GA. Sallie, b Jan 1876 GA, m. Sallie, b Jan 1876 GA, was m to John F. Bundrick and they are in the 1900 Rochelle, Wilcox, GA census. Apparently in Jefferson Co, AL, Mary m 2nd) John C. Wright b abt 1860 of Jefferson Co, AL. He is in the 1910 33-Pct, Jefferson Co, AL census as John C Wright age 46 b AL, 2nd mrg, m age22, wife Sarah age 40 b AL and children: Willie age 17 b AL, Jessie age 12 b AL, George age 10 b AL, Maxine age 7 b AL.

Andrew J is age 33 MS & a widow. However, in the 1920 Selma, Dallas Co, AL census is Mattie Worsham age 43 MS, widow living with her oldest son Benjamin Worsham, age 24 MS.

Shannon Thomas, 2001, says she was known as Mattie Mae Washam "Whooshie" and her children were Bedford Miller Washam, Herman Washam, Beatrice and Leatrice Washam (twin girls), Benjamin Washam, Adell Washam and Furman Washam. Mattie (Whooshie) owned a day care in Selma Ala. in the 1930's. She gave all her kids away and Bedford Miller Washam went to an orphanage in Peoria, MS (Amite Co), until he was of age to go to the military. He spent 10 years there and enlisted in Montgomery AL. Whooshie made a pillow out of ticking and feathers, & Shannon still has it.  According to "Descendants of Claiborne B. May" by Imogene May Boswell, Reba Kirksey Cooper & Donna May Lonon, 1990 his mother, Mary Victoria took his daughter Adele and the twins Herman and Ferman to live with her & Bradford was living with her when he died. Imogene also wrote that "General is said to have killed a man named E. Phillips over his wife, Mattie."

"General Worsham, living near Maben, Miss., killed Lee Philips, wealthy merchant of Eupora, who he found with his wife upon his return from a visit to a sick neighbor."

James W Dunbar, defending his handling of an Illinois school foods contract before a congressional subcommittee Wednesday, said a $5,000 check he wrote to the head of Chicago's school lunch program had nothing to do with the foods contracts. He was questioned by Chairman Fountain (D-NC) about the check Dunbar wrote to Frank O Washam over Rep Hoffman's (R-Mich) objections that it was "Wholly irrelevant." Dunbar acknowledged receiving about a half million dollars for distributing food to Chicago schools but he said the April 20, 1954 check to Washam involved a different matter - an investment in Pacific Mining Co. in Oregon for a device to take gold out of mine tailings. He said Washam got the check as president of Pacific Mining, a job "wished on Washam by fellow investors. Dunbar said he didn't believe Washam received any compensation. Dunbar said he himself got nothing back from the investment. Dunbar agreed with Rep Reuss (D-Wis) that he as Sangamon County probate clerk has a fiduciary position as regards the state and that Washam has a similar responsibility toward Chicago citizens...

Dick Wayne Russell, 72, passed from this life Tue, Apr 18, 2000, in San Angelo. He was b Sep 9, 1927, in Rotan to Raymond Russell and Addie Revel. He was md to Eva Marie Washam Oct. 24, 1947, in San Angelo. Dick came to San Angelo as a small child where he attended school, graduating from San Angelo High School in 1944. He went to work for the San Angelo Standard-Times at the age of 12 as a paper boy. He served two years in the Navy aboard the USS Prince William where he was yeoman first class. After his time in the Navy he returned to work at the Standard-Times in the composing room, setting type on the Linotype machine and later serving as foreman over the new computerized method of composing ads. He retired from the paper in 1986 after 42 years. Over the years he had many interests, including sports of all types, computers and keeping in touch with his high school classmates from year to year. He was active in the San Angelo Genealogical & Historical Society, Tom Green Co Democratic Club and Tom Green Co Historical Preservation League. ... He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Warren Claude, Jack Leslie and Robert Earnest. He is survived by his wife of 52 years; his daughter and her husband, Janis and Gene Potter; and his son, Chris. Also surviving him are his sister, Marilyn Hartman; his sister-in-law, Glenda Russell; five grandchildren, Tara Mills of Abilene, Carla Diehl of Wisconsin, Anton Russell of Dallas, Grant Walker of New York and Blake Russell of San Angelo. Funeral service will be Thur, Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

 SAN ANGELO Our precious mother, Marie Russell, age 83, passed from this life and into her eternal home on Monday, Feb. 14, 2011. Marie was born on May 26, 1927, in Claude, Texas, to Thomas Washam and Mildred Frisbie Washam. She had been a long time resident of San Angelo and was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Marie graduated from San Angelo High School in 1946 and married Dick Russell in 1947. They had two children, Janis Potter and Chris Russell, both of San Angelo. She was county clerk for Tom Green County, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Tom Green County Genealogical Society, the Democratic Club and the Tom Green County History books. She was very involved with the planning of the high school reunions for her graduating class. She was an active member of society, a friend to all and a dedicated Christian. Her children grew up hearing Bible stories every night at bedtime. She would bake chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake for her family even though she was allergic to chocolate. She never gave much thought to herself but always tried to be of help to everyone she knew. She was dedicated to her family while her children were young only going to work outside of the home when they had grown up. She was the perfect mother, grandma and great-grandma in every way and will certainly be missed. Many relatives and friends share precious memories of her as well. She was everything we could have asked for in the many roles she played. Marie Russell may have been 83 but she had the spirit and the mind of a young woman. Always a trooper and never complaining, she was the very best! She may have left us here on Earth but she is most certainly with God in Heaven. We will see her again soon but until then she will live on in our hearts! She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dick; her parents; sister Enola (Judy) Spruill; and brothers Sidney Washam and Jack Washam. She is survived by her children, Janis Potter and Chris Russell; son-in-law Gene Potter; sisters-in-law Marilyn Hartman and Glenda Russell; grandchildren Tara Mills of San Angelo, Carla Cochran (Keith) of Virginia, Grant Walker of Amarillo, Anton Russell (Stacie) of Murphy, Texas, Blake Russell of Keller, Texas, Buddy Potter (Angie) of Midland, Texas, Scott Potter of Iowa and Angel Haley (Brett) of San Angelo; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and her special grand-dog, Zoe. Family visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Tommy King officiating. Burial will be in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. There were two men listed in the 1830 and 1840 census records who could be Manerva’s father, William Worsham and Robert Washam.  William Worsham was in the 1830 Carroll Co, GA cens, age 30-40 with males: 2 under 5 & 1 under 10; 2 Females under 5 and his wife is 30-40. This William Worsham is in the 1840 St. Clair Co,  AL cens, age 40-50 with males: 1 under 10, 1-15-20; females: 2 under 5, 2 under 10, & 1 40-50.  Robert Washam age 30-40 is in the 1830 St. Clair Co, AL cens, with a male age 10-15; and females 1 age 5-10; 1 age 30-40. In 1840, Robert Washam, age 40-50,  is in Benton Co, AL cens with a males 1 age 5-10, 1 10-15, females: 1 under 5, and 1 age 10-15.  In 1850, Robert Washam age 62 b GA is in St Clair Co, living with Lewis Edwards age 23 b SC, Katherine age 21 b AL.  Since Manerva was b in GA ca 1830 & William was living in Georgia in 1830 and Robert was in Alabama, it is assumed she was the dau of William.  St Clair is next to Talladega Co and is located northeast of Birmingham, Jefferson Co, AL. James Williams age 22 NC, Minerva age 20 GA  and son John L. Williams age 8/12 AL are in the 1850 Cahawba Valley, Jefferson Co, AL cens.  In 1860, James Williams age 31 NC, Minerva age 28 GA, John age 11 AL, Thomas age 9 AL, Joseph age 7 AL & Bernard age 4 AL. Bernard lived in Sylacauga, Talladega, AL. In 1870, James is listed as John D or B Williams age 44 SC, Minerva is age 40 GA, William T age 18 AL, Joseph W S age 17 AL, & Barnard age 14 AL in Talladega, AL  Minerva is probably the M. (6-1850; 16-1860; 31-1880) He may be William Worsham, the son of John Worsham b TN & Penelope Page b AL, on p 632, paragraph 1.5.5A.3.2.5.  He m Nancy Horton abt 1867 Lamar Co, TX & he d 1884 Lamar Co, TX. Descendants lived in Lamar Co, TX; Hardeman Co, TX; OK.

According to Erin Worsham, 2004, family tradition has William and Nancy Horton both born in Choctaw Co, Alabama. According to Myrt Brakhage, 2001, her grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Worsham, daughter of William and Nancy Horton, and wife of Henry Albert Moore. "Years ago, I talked to Stella Worsham, wife of Robert Edward Lee Worsham, in Ada, OK. Not much to go on, but she did say William had a sister Mary, who m William Alford." 

Very near William Worsham in the 1880 Precinct 6, Fannin Co, TX cens. is Wm. Alford & his wife Mary A. age 35 b AL. In the 1900 Lamar Co, TX census is Mary Alford b Aug 1846 AL. John Worsham & Penelope Page had a daughter named Mary A. b abt 1842 AL, and a son William b abt 1844 AL, however, note that the birth dates are inconsistent in the census records. In the 1880 Fannin, TX, Mary Alford identified her father b in TN and mother b in AL. Her brother, William, in the 1880 Fannin Co, TX cens. did not know his father's birth place and his mother was b in AL. The birth locations make it possible that they are children of John & Penelope. No member of this family has been found in the 1870 census. William and Mary lived in the northern border of Texas & Oklahoma and John & Page Worsham lived near the border of Texas & Louisiana. Another possible link of these families is the birth of Ida Alford in Louisiana about 1873. 

According to The Handbook of Texas Online (0.515) by William R. Hunt: CHILLICOTHE, TX. Chillicothe is on U.S. Highway 287, State Highway 91, Farm Road 2006, and the Fort Worth and Denver and Santa Fe railroads in eastern Hardeman Co. It was founded in the early 1880s and developed rapidly after the construction of the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway in 1887. The community, named by A. E. Jones for his hometown in Missouri, grew up on Wanderer's Creek near the headquarters of W. H. Worsham's R2 Ranch in the 1870s.

He provided his birth as 27 Feb 1875, had blue eyes, light gray hair & occupation was cooking. He gave his sister, Nellie Robinson of Durant, OK, as his nearest relative. Camp Travis, Texas World War I Records has Joseph W. Worsham was a private, 165th Depot Brigade, 2nd Development Battalion, 7th Development Company.

"Eva Worsham, 97, died Wed, Feb 6, 2002, in Santa Barbara, where she had lived for the past five years. She was born Nov 22, 1904 in Cooper, TX, the daughter of Charles David Jones and Evie Holland Jones.  She was m to Clarence Worsham Aug 16, 1926, in Sulphur, OK. They later moved to Norona, Texas, and to California in 1942. Mr. Worsham was a minister in the Churches of Christ until his death in 1964. Mrs. Worsham is survived by her children, Betty Mason, of Santa Barbara, and Roy Worsham, of Ojai; sister Ruth Munday Nanez of Tulare, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Worsham, and three brothers. A memorial service will be held Sat, Feb. 16, Santa Barbara."

"He was a successful businessman in Oklahoma until the Depression completely wiped him out. He was a hard-working and honest business man who owned a movie theater, a grocery store, & I think a hardware store. When the Crash hit, he couldn't bear to see people going hungry, so he gave food away from his store. Therefore, he lost everything. After his first wife, Hester died, my grandmother worked in his store, and that's where they met. She always called him, "Mr. Worsham" even after they were husband and wife. He was a wealthy man and my Aunt Jurhee remembers swimming in the swimming pool and eating ice cream, which were great luxuries back then. After Grandpa died, Grandma Worsham continued to live in the store (living quarters were in the back of the store) She worked in the school cafeteria to earn a living. My grandmother, was a great lady. During the Depression, she would feed people who came to her door on the porch from whatever she could spare. She was always weaving baskets and quilting, making and giving away many things. She visited "the old people" in the nursing home (her words) once a week until she moved to Tulsa when she was in her 90's."

DANVERS — Jean F. Worsham, 84, of Danvers died suddenly at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009.

Born in Somerville, on Oct. 6,1924, daughter of the late William and Julia (Crosby) Gorse. Jean graduated from Somerville High School and soon after, married the late Phaylis Worsham, who was a Naval Officer. Jean and Phaylis lived on several Navy bases in the U.S. as well as Brazil. They finally settled in Danvers in 1962. Jean was an avid church group member all her life, and considered St. Mary's Church her place of worship. In the mid-1960's Jean was a dedicated Den Mother for the Cub and Boy Scouts.

Jean leaves a daughter, Phyllis J. Worsham of Danvers; two sons, Steven J. and his wife Susan Worsham of Danvers and Dennis M. Worsham of California. Also leaving, four grandchildren, Eric, Christopher Worsham both of Danvers, Brittany Worsham of Massachusetts and Amy Worsham of California; and a step-grandchild, Daniel Blanchard of Danvers. She was the sister of Robert and Joseph Gorse and Esther O'Brien. Mrs. Worsham was predeceased by two children, Richard E. and David B. Worsham.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Danvers. "David B. Worsham, 43, of Danvers, died Aug 23, 2005, at Beverly Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the son of Jean (Gorse) Worsham of Danvers and the late Phaylis Worsham. Born in Chelsea, he was a 1979 graduate of Danvers High School. Mr. Worsham is survived by a sister, Phyllis Worsham of Danvers; two brothers, Steven of Danvers and Dennis Worsham of California; and his nieces and nephews, Eric, Chris, Brittany and Amy Worsham. He was also the brother of the late Richard Worsham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Aug 26 in St. Mary’s Church, Danvers. Visitation will be held in the Mackey Funeral Home, 22 Conant St., Danvers, prior to the Mass. Burial will be in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. H. Neil Worsham 80, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at St. John Sapulpa. He was born Oct. 30, 1922 in Ringling to Robert E. Lee Worsham and Verla Estella Black. He honorably served his country in World War II, earning both the P.O.W. and Good Conduct Metals. He was a 1954 graduate of the University of Oklahoma as a professional engineer. He started many businesses and was considered a leader in the heat transfer field. He will be remembered for his love of reading, hunting, fishing and his softspoken manner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Worsham, whom he married on Feb. 4, 1974. Mr. Worsham is survived by one sister, Estalee Hessman of Phoenix, Ariz., two sons, Dave Worsham of Salt Lake City, and Rick Worsham, of Tulsa, one stepson, Mike Doiudican, of Supulpa; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Sapulpa. Burial will be in the Supulpa South Heights Cemetery. Serving as honorary bearers will be Dave Worsham, Rick Worsham, Mike Doudican, Larry Allen and Jim Hagermann. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anniston - Floyd Worsham Jr., known as 'the Singing Dentist,' dies at 84, Dr. Floyd Worsham Jr.'s voice carried through the halls of his Medical Arts Building office. Worsham improvised the words to sing-song tunes as he hovered over his chaired dental patients. The singing calmed nervous patients expecting drilling and suction sounds, said Jane Ann Morrow, one of Worsham's four children. It would lead to a nickname: the Singing Dentist. "That's what most people knew him for," said Morrow, who worked with her father as an assistant dental hygienist in the 1980s. Worsham's patients must've liked the serenade, because they kept coming back for 40 years. Worsham, an Anniston native, died in Birmingham on Wednesday night after a brief illness. He was 84. Worsham would put cotton balls in daughter-in-law and patient Lisa Berryhill Worsham's mouth and then ask her questions, a joking gesture she fondly remembers. Sam Stewart, a longtime patient, likewise remembers the singing, and also spells of whistling. "He was very professional," said Stewart, the former City Councilman and a friend of Worsham's since the 1930s. His family's roots run deep. His family owned J. J. Worsham Lumber Company, a longtime fixture in downtown Anniston. In his youth, Worsham worked for dentist Ed Killian. That fed his interest in dentistry, leading him away from his family business, Morrow said. He practiced dentistry in the Navy during World War II while stationed in Guam. When he returned to Alabama, he first practiced in Troy, and then in Anniston, where he continued to practice until his retirement in the 1990s. The dentist was good with his hands, as can be expected. That's reflected in Worsham's many hobbies. "Floyd was a tinkerer," Stewart said. One Christmas, Worsham and his wife, Mary, made grandfather clocks for their children. In his younger days, Worsham rebuilt two single-engine airplanes. He'd fly his wife and children from Troy to visit family in Anniston before they moved back home in 1957, Morrow said. Worsham also was an amateur radio enthusiast. "He was passionate about everything," Morrow said. Worsham is survived by his wife, four children, nine grandchildren and a great-grandson. Visitation will be Saturday at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel on Golden Springs Road. The funeral will be Sunday at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel.

He enjoyed rebuilding airplanes and was a private pilot for many years. He was a co-founder of Peoples Bank of Anniston and was a member of the American Dental Association. Dr. Worsham was a former member of the LaGrande Avenue Church of Christ, Indian Oaks Church of Christ and Greenbrier Church of Christ in Anniston. He was presently a member of the Palisades Church of Christ in Homewood, AL. Dr. Worsham was a Ham Radio Operator and was a member of the Amateurs Radio Association.

Civic leader Joe Worsham dies, Joe Worsham, a retired Anniston businessman who worked on numerous civic projects for the city, died Monday at National Healthcare in Anniston. He was 78. The third-generation owner of the former J. J. Worsham & Sons Lumber Co. was remembered by those who knew him as a man with a great sense of humor. Longtime friend Virgil Coker said Worsham often would sign off a conversation with an odd or old-fashioned saying. "He'd say, 'keep your powder dry' or 'keep those letters and cards coming,'" Coker said. A bit of a craftsman, Worsham cut lumber to lengths at his lumber company, which closed in September 1992. A Winn-Dixie store now is at the corner of Noble Street and Alabama 202, where the lumber company once stood. An Anniston Star story from 1965 describes a rotating timing signal light that Worsham invented and patented. At the time, Worsham was a motorcycle dealer and sold mostly Hondas. Worsham ran for the Ward 1 seat on the Anniston City Council in 1996, winning 31 percent of the vote. He ultimately lost the three-way race to Andrew Hatley. He again put his hat in the ring for an appointment to the city council in 2000, after the death of city council member Jerre Ford, but he was not selected for the post. Despite the losses, Worsham served for many years on the Metropolitan Planning Organization's Citizen's Advisory Committee and the Anniston Express Transit Advisory Board. MPO Principal Planner Jack Plunk worked with him on many projects. He said Worsham's big project was the Burns Crossroads project to replace old bridges on Alabama 202. "And he lived to see that through," Plunk said. "Civic involvement, of course, for Joe's generation and my generation was very important," Plunk said. "Being a responsible citizen, voting, Joe lived those ideals." Worsham is survived by his aunt, Mrs. Henry Persons and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be today at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery with Dr. Billy Harris officiating.

Jane Worsham Tutwiler was the daughter of Carter Bibb Tutwiler, Jr. and Lucy Worsham. Carter worked for L&N railroad in Birmingham. Lucy died when Jane was in high school. Carter died in 1974. Jane died in 2002. Her grandfather was Carter Bibb Tutwiler,Sr. All lived in and around Birmingham most their lives. Jane has a brother, Carter Bibb Tutwiler III who is still living in North Alabama. Jane was married twice- (1) John Coker and they had 5 children,(2) James Edward Coker (no relation to John). Both John and James died in 1981.

"Luke Worsham 1922 - 2002, A Tribute to a Legend of the Baylor Community, It is with great sadness that the Baylor School community notes the passing of former faculty member Luther T. "Luke" Worsham. Although battling a rapidly advancing cancer, Mr. Worsham celebrated his 80th birthday on April 25 with a gathering of Baylor friends and family on the front porch of their home on Old Baylor School Road. Until his retirement in 1991, Mr. Worsham influenced the lives of countless young men and women as a friend, mentor, biology teacher, dorm parent, and wrestling, football, and track coach. A World War II veteran and a University of Chattanooga graduate, Mr. Worsham arrived at Baylor in 1949, where he came to be known as "Maj," a nickname he earned due to his rank in Baylor's military program. As head wrestling coach, he turned out dozens of champions, including the 1970 national championship team. He is represented in numerous athletic halls of fame and was recognized by the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools for distinguished teaching and dedicated service. When a 1981 Sports Illustrated cover story proclaimed one-time national champion Baylor wrestler John Hannah '69 as the NFL's greatest offensive lineman of all time, John took the opportunity to tell the world what a great impact Coach Worsham had on him. And when he stood to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991, he acknowledged first among the major influences on his life: "People like Luke Worsham, my high school coach, who taught and revealed to me what love truly means. He was a man who always helped me shoulder my problems, who never lost hope in who I could be or what I could do." Those sentiments were echoed on the occasion of Mr. Worsham's retirement, when alumni and friends honored him with the establishment of the Luke Worsham Scholarship Fund. In response, he wrote in an open letter to the Baylor community: "You have made this mean, hard-nosed, white-haired old man the happiest person in the world. The scholarship established in my name was a most pleasant surprise. I feel deeply that we need to have more financial aid available to better diversify our student body. This is the highest compliment you could have extended me." Long after his retirement, he remained committed to the development of young people as a volunteer coach with the varsity track team and the Lower School football and wrestling teams. In the Winter 2000 issue of Baylor Magazine, he said, "Working with young people is the most important gift you can receive." The Baylor community salutes this larger-than-life legend – whom we always will remember as a teacher to the end.”
