The Atlanta Constitution May 23 (Tue)

Macon, GA, May 22 Mrs. Elizabeth Worsham, wife of Dr. J. H. D. Worsham,
of this city, died tonight at the age of 71 years. A husband and one
son, Dr. Eugene Worsham survive her. The funeral will occur Wednesday.
The Atlanta Constitution, Atlanta, Georgia 2/5/1914, p3:
Feb 4 Macon, Ga:
If a suit filed here in superior court today terminates successfully for
the plaintiffs, the whole town of Lizella, located near Macon, may be levied on
to satisfy a mortgage given in 1872 by J H D Worsham, then owner of the 300
acres of land on which Lizella now stands. The mortgage was given to James Dent,
but a short time later Worsham went into bankruptcy and claimed the land under
the homestead exemption. When the mortgage came due it was not satisfied, and
Dent secured a judgment which has been kept alive all these years. The land was
later sold to Macon Construction company, which failed and then the property
fell into the hands of E G Harris, who subdivided it and sold it to various
parties, the town of Lizella being established. Mrs. Worsham had lived and kept
the homestead alive, and all this time the execution against the property
remained unsatisfied. Recently Mrs. Worsham died and now the heirs of Dent are
suing the present occupants of the property to satisfy the mortgage...

Barnesville, Ga., Thur, 29 May 1890:
May They Be Happy - At the residence of Mr. J. M. Akin, yesterday at
2:30 p.m. Dr. Ed Worsham of Macon and Miss Daisy Akin, were united in marriage,
Rev. W.S. Rogers officiating. A few relatives and intimate friends were present
to witness the pleasant scene. The Gazette in behalf of the community, extends
heartiest congratulations.
The
Daily Constitution Nov 22 1892, p 3:
Dr. W. E. Worsham, son of the county physician and himself a praticing
physician in Macon, became suddenly insane this afternoon and tried to kill his
father. Dr. Worsham, Sr., lives in Vineville and his son has rooms at the
same house. This afternoon, while his father was at the county hospital
making his regular rounds, a messenger arrived with the startling intelligence
that his son was unmanageable and threatened to kill any one who came near him.
Dr. Worsham returned home at once and went to his son's room. As soon as
the young man saw his father, he cursed him horribly, and finding he could do
nothing the old man left. The son then turned on his mother and became so
violent that her screams brought the father once more upon the scene. The
sight of his father seemed to drive young Worsham into a paroxyam and seizing a
razor from the bureau he made a rush, foaming at the mouth and screaming.
With the presence of mind and decision, Dr. Worsham picked up a hammer that lay
at hand and knocked the young man down. The blow inflicted a somewhat
serious wound, but gave time to call in help. Dr. Worsham at once came to
the city and swore out a writ of lunacy against his son. Sheriff Westcott
and Deputy Herrington brought the young man in to jail and locked him up until
the trial tomorrow.
The
Daily Constitution, Nov 23, 1892, p3 Macon, Ga:
Nov 22- Dr. W. E. Worsham, son of the county physician an account of
whose arrest as a maniac after he attempted to murder his father, appeared in
The Constitution this morning, has been adjudged insane. The jury of lunacy
was assembled at the jail this morning and the scene there enacted was a strange
one. Young Worsham had recovered temporarily from his fit of madness and
appeared to be equally as sane and calm while before the jury and afterwards as
a member of the jury. The evidence of the witnesses was, however, very
plain. It is evident, that the young man's brain has been gradually
growing weaker for some months. He has been subject to fits of melancholy,
followed generally by strange and unaccountable bursts of passion that seemed to
be uncontrollable. The evidence given by the father and especially that
part of it dealing with the attack made upon him by his son yesterday was tragic
in the extreme and the old gentleman was visibly affected during his recital. He
was loath, he said, to strike his son and at first feared that he had killed him
with the hammer that he had used when defending himself against the madman's
onslaught, but it was absolutely necessary to take violent measures in order to
save his own life and possibly that of other members of the family. After
a full hearing of the evidence the jury found young Worsham a fit subject for
the lunatic asylum and he will be kept in jail until a vacancy can be found for
him in Milledgeville."

Worsham known as Bill was a devout member of the Church of Christ. Upon the death of
his first wife, Annie, he remarried a relative of hers named Connie Tinney. He was
diagnosed with colon cancer and became worried that since Connie had been married
before that she may not have had a scriptural divorce. As a result, Connie moved into
another part of the house and they never lived together as husband and wife again.
Connie, however, refused to leave. She wanted her part of his assets, if not even the
children's parts.

Mabel was a modern woman far before women were expected to be. Her
husband, Pruitt, abandoned Mabel and her two daughters in 1936. He left for long
periods of time and they finally divorced. She worked at Regal Mills in Trion, GA
and raised two girls for the most part alone. I was always impressed with how well
she handled everything since my own mother did not work.
I remember occasionally spending time with Mabel during the
summers and I will never forget that she took me shopping one day and bought me my
first grown up looking dress. I was so thrilled and also so grateful to her for
doing this. I was afraid my mother wouldn't let me wear it but she didn't say a
word.
Later in life Mabel was stricken with Rheumatoid Arthritis. She
dealt with a vast array of health issues as a result. She remarried John Shockley
but due to her health that continued to diminish and his advancing age, much cannot
be said here about that marriage.
Mable was a wonderful woman and is greatly missed by all who loved
her.

Augusta, known to most as Gussie, met Ralph while her father was
still living. Ralph was nervous about asking him for permission to marry her, but
once he met him, they liked each other. Augusta's father died a few months before
they were married.
Augusta and Ralph moved first to East Lake, in the Chattanooga, TN
area where Ralph drove a bus for what was then Southern Coach Lines. They then moved
to 201 Longview Drive, Rossville, GA where they purchased a 3 bedroom home that had
been built by a Colonel in the Army that was stationed at Ft. Oglethorpe during
WWII. They lived in this home for the rest of their lives.
Ralph was diagnosed first with colon cancer, then prostate cancer,
than bone cancer and then later with liver cancer. He lived more than 20 years after
the first diagnosis. Although he fought to live, he also fought to continue to love
life. In spite of his illness, he was the first to laugh and to bring laughter. He
had an undying spirit.
In December of 1989 their youngest daughter Deborah, known as
Debbie, was murdered in a robbery at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Chattanooga where she
was a night manager. Ralph found her body and although he lived long enough to get
through the court trials, his laughter died with her.
While still living in Trion, GA with their first child, Ralph was
at work at the Regal Mill when he received word that their house was on fire. He ran
all the way from the mill to their home at 363 Oak St, approximately a mile and a
half. Everyone was alright but about the only possessions saved were the family
Bibles.

"About
1808, George Worsham’s great-great-grandson Henry left Virginia with his new
wife, Martha Lee Farley of Nottoway Co., Virginia. They went to Baldwin County, Georgia where some Worsham cousins lived
..." Should be "About 1811,
George Worsham’s
great-great-grandson Henry left Virginia with his new wife, Martha Lee Farley
of Nottoway Co., Virginia. They
went to Baldwin County, Georgia where his brothers David G. Worsham &
Archer lived ...". George did not show up on the Baldwin
County Tax Rolls until 1811 (James Worsham, 2005) and grandchildren were born
in VA as late as 1809.
James Worsham, 2005 writes:
After selling land in Nottoway
County, Virginia, in 1811, Henry and wife Martha, along with their two
children Albert Malone and James Henry, moved to Baldwin County, GA. Henry is
listed on the 1818 Baldwin County Tax List. Henry's brothers, Archer and
David, also moved to GA in 1811
By 1820, Henry and Martha (and 6
children: Albert Malone, James Henry, Bolin Greene, William Washington, Robert
Fitzgerald, and Martha Frances) moved to East Feliciana Parish, LA. The
Louisiana Purchase of 1801 being accomplished by President Thomas Jefferson,
Henry named his 3rd son born in Louisiana, Thomas Jefferson Worsham. The
children of Henry and Martha, born in LA, were Samuel Jackson, Matthew Gaulden,
Thomas Jefferson, John Farley, Eliza Maria, and Lucius Edgar.
Three of Henry's children died in
1832 (Robert, Matthew, Lucius); Henry died in 1833. Perhaps the cause was
yellow fever. Henry is buried (probably) in the only Catholic cemetery in New
Roads, Pointe Coupee Parish, LA.
Henry is listed on the 1830 Federal
Census, page 134, Iberville Parish, as Henry Wisham

James Henry Worsham d 20 Jul 1850 East Feliciana, LA. Margaret F. McKneely Worsham
was a slave owner and was listed as M. Worsham in both the 1860 slave schedule and the
1860 census. The 1860 slave schedule lists the following slaves: age 70 male black; age
