Regiment GA Infantry. He was captured at Edward's Depot 17 May 1863, was received as
a prisoner of war at Fort Delaware, Delaware, 9 Jun 1863, and exchanged 4 Jul 1863. He was in the Confederate State
Hospital, Petersburg, VA 18 Jul 1863 & furloughed 7 Aug. (Confederate
Service Records, National Archives, Washington, DC) Another record was in the

The Gettysburg Times (Gettysburg, Pennsylvania) 13 May 1918:
"Gadsen, Ala, May 13 - Indictments of murder
in the first degree have been returned by the Etowah County Grand Jury against Acting
Chiel of Police Walter Washam and policeman George Harris, of Alabama City. They are
charged with the murder of Hans Holmes, a cook in Company L, One Hundred and Thirteenth
Infantry. ... The findings of the jury were the result of a two-day investigation."

Funeral services were held Tues,
Jun 14, 2005 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Herstene Ray, 95, of Rainbow City who died
Friday, June 10, 2005. Burial was in Forrest Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and
Cremation Service directed. Mrs. Ray was a native of Gadsden and a resident of Florida
having returned to Gadsden in 1976. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and
taught elementary school most of her life having spent the last 17 years of her career as
a kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Ray was a very special person and a loving mother and special
friend to all. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert F. Ray; parents: Maude
Georganne Stephens and Horace William Warsham; brothers: Cecil, Royal and J.D. Warsham;
and sister: Lois Wall. Survivors include her daughter: Linda Ray Dafoe; grandchildren:
Robert Charles Dafoe and Christie Lynn Dafoe; brother: Billy Gene Warsham; sister:
Margaret Gage. Pallbearers were Ryan Guest, O.B. Works, Michael McCain, Billy Williams,
Randy Williams and Kenneth Herlong. Honorary Pallbearers were Alabama City Chapter 345
Order of the Eastern Star.
