| Here is Walter Woodworth's lot on Kent
Street. (House was built centuries later.)
Walter was given title to this land at the end of his
indentureship, which was part of his contract.
At indenture completion, good land was supposed to be
provided.
Whether Walter actually lived on this lot is unknown. He owned much
land in Scituate. |
 |
| This marsh area in front of Walter's lot
on Kent street was desirable land in the 1600s, as a river emptied into to the marsh, keeping it salt
free and productive for cattle grazing. |
 |
| Near Walter's lot on Kent Street was the
Meeting House or Church, and a cemetery now known as "Men of
Kent Cemetery". |
 |
| But the "Men of Kent" stones are in bad shape. |
 |
| More deteriorating stones.
In the early 1900s or so, it was noted the stones were
disintegrating, and inscriptions were copied from what
remained over the centuries. Now many of those stones
are nubs protruding from the ground. |

 |
| Behind Samuel "the poet" Woodworth's
childhood home is "Walter Woodworth Hill", later known as
Walnut Tree Hill. Next to Samuel's home is a street
called "Woodworth Lane". A few years ago it was a
short block of fine homes. The home at the end of the
street was torn down and a street put in to access a new
housing addition on Walter Woodworth hill. Marvin is
standing at the corner of Walnut Tree Drive and Woodworth
Lane. All of this is new over the last few years. |

Tuesday morning, "Do your own thing day".
Some went to "Plimoth Plantation". My brother Kirk and
I drove out to Cape Cod and ate at Grumpy's on the way.
Grumpy's food was OK, but the crab cakes weren't as good as
I remembered from a previous trip. The crab cakes were
better in Plymouth at a little place on the harbor down the
street. |
