2.  CHANDLER2 LYNCH (JOHN1) was born 1802 in SC.  He married (1) MARTHA.  She was 
born 1802 in Georgia.  He married (2) NANCY GILBURN October 26, 1868 in Old Sparta, 
AL.  

Notes for CHANDLER LYNCH:
Chandler Lynch was believed to be the son of Sarah of NC and John Lynch of Va., born 
1768.  Chandler married second at the age of 78 to a Nancy Gilburn on October 26, 
1868 at Old Sparta, AL.  They had no children born to the last marriage.  Chandler 
received his mail at Old Sparta, AL, where he bought land in the early 1800's. 
Genealogy documents indicated that Chandler was born in North Caroline in 1790. Data 
that is listed is from 1860 Conecuh County Alabama Federal Census. His occupation was 
listed as Farmer.


Notes for MARTHA:
Martha Chandler data from another Genealogy study indicates she was born in North 
Carolina in 1799.  The 1860 Federal census of Conecuh County Alabama indicates she 
was born in 1802 in Georgia.

3.  FELIX3 LYNCH (CHANDLER2, JOHN1) was born 1827 in Alabama, and died Aft. 1860.  He 
married LUCY.  She was born 1830 in Alabama.

Notes for FELIX LYNCH:
Have not been able to find out much about Chandler's children, except Felix who 
remained in Conecuh County, AL, and who is the father of Maddison and all his 
brothers and sisters.  Vinson and Monroe could have been killed in the Civil War or 
may have moved west to Texas as believed by some older family members.
Felix Lynch and Lucy bought land in Conecuh County, Alabama, in 1854. Felix may have 
been a nickname for Felding Lynch who was recruited in Old Aparta, AL in April 1862 
for the Civil War and was killed at Gains Farm, July 1862.  He was listed on the 1860 
Census and not listed in 1870.  Died between 1860 and 1870.

4.  JOHN CHANDLER4 LYNCH (FELIX3, CHANDLER2, JOHN1) was born 1842 in Conecuh, AL.  He 
married FRANCIS A..  She was born December 15, 1852, and died April 17, 1896 in Pine 
Barren, Escambia, FL.

Notes for JOHN CHANDLER LYNCH:
John Chandler Lynch lived in Pine Barren Florida and had one son.  Pictures indicate 
that he played the "fiddle" and talk has it that he played for social events.  
Research has not revealed where he is buried.  His wife is buried in Pine Barren. 
There is a rumor that John got into trouble when he shot a man. The man was so 
disliked (the kind people wish was dead) that he was never purnished.
  Yewell Lee Lynch has more information on this and will supply shortly.  There are 
all kinds of rumors about this affair, some claim he got in bad company and ran 
around with John Wesley Hardin and killed a Negro(s) and other unlawful things. 
Hopefully we can get a straight story.


Notes for FRANCIS A.:
Franchis A.,  Buried in Pine Barren Cemetery, at Pine Barren, FL. No record of where 
John Chandler Lynch was buried.  They had one child, Arnett Tilton Lynch. There is 
only one body in the little plot with the iron fence around it with "Francis A. 
Lynch" born 1952, and died 1896 on the Tomb stone.  There is no grave for John. Data 
obtained from grave 4/94 "Frances A. Lynch, April 17 1896, 44Y 4M 2D" if the "44Y 4M 
2D" means years, months, days; her birth would be 15 Dec 1852.

Missouri Lynch, Mother of James (Jim) Demorion Lynch of Conecuh County, Alabama When 
Jim was born Sis gave him her maiden name Lynch. Sis married in her later years to 
Jim Davis.  They had no children.

Mary Jane Davis was the daughter of James Heart Daniel (Jim) Davis of Conecuh county 
Alabama.  James Hart Daniel Davis was born 31 Aug 1933 and died 25 Mar 1916. James 
was married to Frances Lucrecy Weaver (Alabama). Mary Jane was married 1st to James 
Maddison Lynch (son of Felix Lynch).  They had two sons and a daughter (died as a 
baby).  She married 2nd to Melton Gibson and had four

8.  ARNETT TILTON5 LYNCH (JOHN CHANDLER4, FELIX3, CHANDLER2, JOHN1) was born 
September 09, 1876 in Castleberry, Conecuh, AL, and died January 21, 1931 in 
Birmingham, AL.  He married (1) LAURA JANE SMITH, daughter of BEN SMITH and MARY.  
She was born August 17, 1875 in Pine Barren, Escambia, FL, and died February 14, 1940 
in Atmore, Escambia, AL.  He married (2) KATIE BELL JACOBS.  She was born May 14, 
1903.

Notes for ARNETT TILTON LYNCH:
Arnett Lynch appears to have taken a correspondence course in Optometry and followed 
this profession the rest of his life. He had a store in Atmore Alabama, where he 
fitted and sold glasses. There are no records to indicate why he went to Pine Barren, 
FL, and how he supported his mother until her death. It is assumed that he married 
Laura Jane Smith in the 1890's. Out of this marriage there were five girls and two 
boys. Arnett met a young lady in Atmore by the name of Katie Bell while he was still 
married to Laura Jane. He sold his business and left Laura Jane (no divorce, mid life 
crisis?) in 1927, to moved to Opp and and then Birmingham, Alabama.  He opened a 
business in Opp and Birmingham. His business in Atmore, Opp, and Birmingham was 
Optometry (glasses), Jewerly, and Watches. He remained in Birmingham until his death 
in 1931. He and Katie had a boy named Harold (Hal) Tilton Lynch, while in Opp, 
Alabama.

Notes for LAURA JANE SMITH:
Laura Jane Smith and Arnett Tilton Lynch had a family of five girls and two boys. 
Maye Agnes,Erby Lee, Maude Wilma and Florence Olevia were born in Pine Barren, 
Florida. (Florence's birth certificate indicates birth in Bay Minette, Alabama 
because it was a delayed certificate in late years). Arnett and Laura moved to 
Jackson, Alabama where Henry was born. They then moved to Thomasville, Alabama where 
Mary Frances and Lottie Thelma were born. They moved on to Bay Minette, Alabama 
before settling in Atmore, Alabama. Arnett Tilten fit and sold eye glasses in these 
places.  He opened a Jewelery and Optical store in Atmore. In 1927 Arnett Tilton sold 
the business and left Laura Jane to live in Opp and Birmingham, Alabama (without 
benefit of a divorce' mid life crisis?). Arnett Tilton died on January 21, 1931 and 
is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Atmore.  Laura Jane died Feburary 14, 1940 and is 
also buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Atmore. Tombstone Information from Pine Barren,

Notes for KATIE BELL JACOBS:
Katie Bell Jacobs met Arnett Tilton Lynch in Atmore, Alabama while Arnett was still 
married to Laura Jane.  She met him at the local cafe where she worked, and they fell 
in love (Mid life crisis for Arnett).  Arnett sold his business in Atmore in 1927 and 
moved to Opp, Alabama with Katie Bell where they lived as man and wife. (Arnett never 
divorced Laura). They obtained a marriage license, but it was never used. Arnett 
opened a store that specilized in Optometry, Jewerly, and watchs.  They later moved 
to Birmingham, Alabama; where Arnett opened a store.  They remained there until his 
death in 1931.  Katie Bell is 1/8 Indian.  There has been a rumor going on amoung the 
Lynch family that there was some Indian blood in the family tree.  It was thought to 
be in the Smith line.  Was it the Katie Bell connectiion that they are talking about? 
Arnett left Laura Jane in 1927 and died in January 1931. Arnett and Katie Bell had a 
son named Harold Tilton Lynch who lives in Opp, Alabama.  Katie Bell lives with her 
son in Opp.

Josephine Davis was the daughter of James Hart Daniel (Jim) Davis. She was previously 
married to Henry Allen.  They had one child born and is buried at Cedar Creek 
Cemetery.  Henry Allen was killed while driving a team of oxen during a logging 
operation.  Henry Allen is also buried at Cedar Creek Cemetery east of Castleberry, 
Alabama.

Notes for (BUD) LAWRENCE LESLIE LYNCH:
Lawrence Lynch was the son of James Madison Lynch of Conecuh County, Alabama. He went 
to work for T.R. Miller Mill Company in Brewton when he was 12 years old. (at the 
time it was known as the "Company").  Mr. George W. Kirkland was his boss, he hired 
Lawrence (Bud) to feed the oxens and get wood for the stove and bring water from the 
well. A black man by the name of Rabb Harvey was the cook at the camp.  The men ate 
and slept in railroad camp cars. Saro McClellan was a real close friend of his, the 
men all called Lawrence "Uncle Buddy". They were all real good to him and helped him 
anyway they could. He only went to school four days. He worked to help his mother 
(Mary Jane) care for the small children, by another marriage.

He was born December 07, 1886, and died August 17, 1960 in Atmore, AL, Escambia.

Maye Agnes Lynch married Walter Luckett McMeans and had two children. May Agnes 
married second to Avner Afflex Johns.  There were no children from this marriage.

Walter McMeans was the first husband of Maye Anges Lynch. They had one son and one 
daughter


Notes for AVNER AFFLEX JOHNS:
Avner Johns was a self-made man, with very little education because he had to help 
his mother and sister at an early age.  He created "Johns Dry Cleaning" business in 
Atmore.  The business is still going. Avner's mother was Mrs. Ella Harris (Johns 
Pittman) 1870-1952 (was maybe married three times?).

Erby Lee Lynch is related to the Lowery's by the connection of his sister, Florence 
Olivia Lynch and Winton Walter Lowery Jr.  His wife, Bertha Mae Lowrey is also be

Bertha Mae Lowrey's parents were Andrew Lafayette and Nancy Fry Lowrey. Her parents 
were married 6 Dec. 1878 and had fourteen children. Both of their parents were 
Confederate soldiers.  Bertha Mae did not remarry after Erby Lee's death.  She is 
still living (1993) in Atmore, Alabama, and is living in a rest home. Bertha and Erby 
were married at the Methodist church in Canoe, Alabama. Bertha May Lowrey is

Notes for FLORENCE OLIVIA LYNCH:
Florence Olivia Lynch Married Winton Walter Lowery Jr. and had four sons. Winton and 
Florence had a wonderful life.  They had a home at the rear of William Walter 
Lowery's home (There were homes of many of William Walter Lowery's children in the 
same block).  Winton managed and later owned the Movie theater and was deeply 
involved with the community.  He was forced to sell the movie theater and the family 
moved to Mississippi, Louisana, and Texas on various business ventures.  Winton 
contacted Lucemia and died at an early age. Florence was left destitute from the 
medical expenses and retured to Atmore with her four boys.  She raised them until 
adulthood.  She never remarried. She died from a heart attack while at home. You will 
find Florence's middle name spelled "Olevia" in a number of documents. You will also 
see a delayed certificate of Birth indicating that Florence Olevia Lynch was born in 
Bay Minette, Baldwin, Alabama. This data is incorrect, she was born in Pine Barren, 
Escambia, Florida.  These errors are pointed out in the genealogy material of Mary 
Francis Lynch (sister).


Notes for JR. WINTON WALTER LOWERY:
Winton Walter Lowery Jr.  served his country in the Army Medical Division during 
World War I.  There are no records to indicate that he went overseas. He was a 
drugist, a movie theater owner/operator, a shrimp boat owner/ operator, and others.  
He died in the Veterans Hospital in Boloxi after the medical profession had taken all 
of his money. He had a very full and enjoyable life before his untimely death.
He was the first president of the Atmore Lions Club.  He was a 32nd Degree Scottish 
Rite Mason.  He died of Lucemia.  His wife (Florence) keep the family together and 
raised the boys to adulthood. Winton and his wife Florence lived in a house behind 
Winton's fathers house in Atmore. The Atmore Advance (newspaper) bought the property 
and put the newspaper building there.  It is understood that  Winton and Florence's 
house was moved to a location in north Atmore and may have burned down?

Mary Frances Lynch married H. Guy Andress Sr.  Guy worked on the Louisville and 
Nashville Railroad until his retirement (April 1923 to March 31, 1969). Mary Frances 
started the Genealogy effort on the Lynch's which much of this and other efforts have 
been based on. Guy Andress Sr. also put major efforts into the Genealogy of the 
Andress tree. Mary and Guy retired in Pensacola, Florida and lived there until 
September 1975 when due to his illness they returned to Evansville, Indiana to be 
close to their son and family.

Guy Andress Sr. worked with the Louisville and Nashville R.R. from 1923 until his

Harold (Hal) Tilton Lynch is the son of Arnett Tilton Lynch and Kattie Bell Jacobs. 
Hal served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was at Okinawa when he graduated 
in absentia with the Class of 1945. He received Bachelor degrees in Aeronautical 
Engineer and Business Administration in 1952 from the University of Colorado. Later 
he received his MBA from USC and a Master's in Anthropology (folk music) from UCLA. 
He is a co-owner of Theatre West in Los Angeles, which provides training for actors 
of stage and screen. 
  He worked for Duglas Aircraft for a year.  He then embarked on a career of 
folksinging and stage acting. He has performed in Stage, Screen and TV shows. Tv 
Shows include Gunsmoke, Barnaby Jones, Star Trek, Rockford Files, Big Valley and 
Cannon.  He returned to Opp Alabama in 1976 and has been involved in many activities 
in that community. He is dedicated to the presevation of Opp's history. 
 Hal was married a number of times.  His first marriage resulted in three children: 
Phyllis, Lorrane, and Weiss Lynch. He is presently living in Opp, Alabama; along with 
his mother. 
Tom, Bud and Henry Lowery and  Johnnie Benoit and others have met Hal.  He has 
furnished information for this genealogy effort.

Notes for III WINTON WALTER (SON) LOWERY:
Winton W. Lowery III served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was a 
senior Electronic Engineer with Philco Corp. for 20 years. He was involved with the 
introduction of Television to the American public. He was involved with Engineering 
support of communication, radar, Jamming, Electronic Warfare, and other electronic 
systems for the Air Force and the U.S. Navy.  He flew missions over North Korea, took 
a 9 month cruise on the USS Saratoga Aircraft Carrier, etc. as a result of this 
support.  In 1967 he became involved in the Intelligence (spy) business and remained 
in this profession until he retired.  He was responsible for design, testing, and 
operational mission flights of the various airborne systems.  He flew missions over 
Viet Nam, and around the rest of the world. He is now living in the mountains of 
western Virginia. The Soviet Union (his main concern) broke up, so Winton retired. 
Winton met his wife, Sue, while he was in the Navy during World War II. Because of 
the nature of his business, they have lived in many states and in Spain.  Winton's 
business has taken him to all of the U.S. states and a large part of the World. 
Winton has received many awards and citations during his professional career.  One of 
the most prized is a "Meritorious Public Service Citation" from the Secretary of the 
Navy for design of classified equipment.  This award was presented by the Commanding 
officer of the Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron TWO in Rota, Spain, at a formal full 
dress cermony that involved all of the squadron personnel other invited guests.

Notes for SR. THOMAS TALMADGE (TOM) LOWERY:
Tom Talmadge Lowery served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After 
World War II, Tom worked with the Navy in the Pensacola area.  He was an electronics 
technician and Avionics instructor.  He has managed to live most of his life in Gulf 
Breeze, Florida, within sight of the Gulf of Mexico.  He is an avid sportsman.  In 
his capacity as a qualified boat captain, he was involved with personnel 
transportation and water filming of the movie "Jaws II".  He is presently involved as 
an Industrial Surplus Broker.
  Tom's first name on his birth certificate is "Tommy". He changed his first name to 
Thomas when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Tom was big for his 
age and was able to get in the Navy by lying about his age.  He was an aircraft 
mechanic and flight mechanic on PBY flying boat aircraft aircraft during the war. He 
remained in Pensacola after the war and worked at the Navy base as an electronic 
technician and instructor.
  Tom was planning to go to Alburn University after the war, but fell in "love" and 
married Julie (both of them at a very young age).  They quickly produced four boys.  
This was very hard on the marriage and after several divorces, they called it quits. 
Tom was also in the National Guard.  He was an Army Veteran in the Korean Conflict.

  During 1994, Tom was involved with FEMA and spent a number of months assisting the 
people of California that were impacted by the earth quake.

(near Aspin).  He had all of his children by his first marriage to Eleanor.  After 
her death he has married Candyce, who brings to the marriage two children by her 
previous marriage.
  Henry was too young to get in the service during World War II. He borrowed money 
from the local Atmore druggist to go to college and get his Pharmacist degree.
He is retired and still working and enjoying his vacations with his 5th wheeler.

Notes for JR. JOHN ALBERT BENOIT:
John Benoit Jr. received his college education from Rollins College, Winter Park, 
Fla. He contracted polio while stationed in the Panama Canal Zone while in the U.S. 
Air Force. He worked for Sears & Roebuck Company, Orlando, for 27 years without a 
days absence for sick leave, and all in a wheelchair. John was know as "Johnie Jump-
Up" by his cousins because of his active nature.  John doesn't let the wheel chair 
get in his way.  He likes fishing and swimming. He is game to do anything; go 
boating, fly in an airplane, etc.  He received a medical setback (result of polio and 
diabetis) in 1994.  He was released
from the Hospital, but could not overcome his problems.  He died in 1994 at the age 
of 66 as a result of heart failure.
