 Second Generation

Richard Alexander FRAIN was born in Ireland, quite possibly in Co. Wexford.  It isn't known when he emigrated to the United States but family charts compiled by Marie Mildred FRAIN states that he was "of Wexford".  He is buried in the R.A.Frain plot at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia

He married Mary BOARDMAN who was born Abt. 1798 in Ireland.  She died before 31 January 1872, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, and was buried 31 January 1872 in the R.A. Frain Plot at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia.
They had the following children:
1. Richard FRAIN  See below
2.  Walter S.(anders) FRAIN
3. Jacob S. FRAIN  See below
4.  Sanders Alexander "Saunders" FRAIN
5. John FRAIN
Both Richard and Mary were members of "The Church of the Atonement" presumably in Richmond County.  However a curious event occured on 9 March 1854, where a child was baptised which was illegitimate.  Back tracking through the records provided a much needed clue to the exsistance of aMary A. FRAIN who was born on 6 February1854 by a woman who's name wasCornelia HOBBYMrs. Mary FRAIN was a witness to Mary A. FRAIN's baptisim.  Sadly Mary A. FRAIN died before 9 May 1854, and was buried in the Magnolia Cemetery Plot of RA FRAIN.  Further persual of the Church of the Atonement records prove a communicant notice on 6 March 1853 where Richard was 'suspended' from the church on 1 February 1854.  We presume he withdrew from the church alltogether, as further records indicated that his children, Sanders, Walter, both withdrew from the church.  On Christmas Day in 1853 Mary FRAIN is listed as having withdrawn from the church.  It is noted that Mary A. FRAIN (Child of Cornielia HOBBY and Richard FRAIN) and both Mary Boardman FRAIN were all listed as having the surname FRAYNE in the records books.  Additionaly Magnolia Cemetery also listed Mary A. FRAIN as having the FRAYNE surname in the record book.  Both Richard and Mary Boardman FRAIN are also buried at Magnolia.  There are no headstones to mark their place of rest.

Nothing is known about Richards' first childRichard FrainThis information comes from an old family genealogy chart that dates back to the 1950's.  Though I have sought this information avidly, I have not found any evidence of him residing in the US.

Jacob S. FRAIN was born about 1834 in Co. Wexford Ireland.  He died on 4 October 1889 in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia.  He was buried on 5 Octover 1889, and was buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia.  His funeral was conducted at St. Paul's Church in Augusta at 11 am. on the same day as his burial.  We've no idea who Mrs. E.S. LOMAX is however she is mentioned in the Funeral Notice.14  Jacob petitioned for Naturalization in October of 185715 on the same day as his brother Sanders Alexander FRAIN.  Both Jacob and his brother Walter S.(aunders) FRAIN are listed in the book "The Georgia Black Book . Morbid, Macabre & Sometimes Disgusting records of Genealogical Value" by Robert Scott Davis

 Third Generation

Walter S.(anders) FRAIN was born about 1827/1832 in Ireland.  He died on 8 December 1870 Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, and was buried on 12 December 1870, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia in the R.A. Frain Plot at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia.

Walter married on 20 January 1856, Newton County Court of the Ordinary Georgia to Mary V.(irginia) MAYFIELD Daughter of the Rev. Stephen MAYFIELD and Martha DOBBS
She was born about 1838 in Muscogee(?) County, Georgia
They had the following children:
Sanders Joseph FRAIN was born 8 April 1857
2.  Martha Virginia "Mattie" FRAIN
Walter was according to census records, and various other documentation a Rail Road Man.  Finding him in Newton County was an unexpected bonus.  (Leading me towards 2 MAYFIELD lineages I am tracking).  Walter like his father and brothers was listed in the communicant records at 'The Church of the Atonement' he was listed on 5 June 1853 (following Richards Removal), and finally struck from the records with one Robert McKNIGHT on 1 January 1856.  In 1860 he is found in the Newton County Georgia Federal Census with 2 children.  He is then presumably listed in the 1870 Richmond County Georgia Census just prior to his death.  By 8 December 1870 he is found in the 1st Ward Augusta Jail house, which probably has something to do with the records found by Robert Scott Davis.  His funeral was conducted on the corner of Kellock and Walker St. in Augusta Richmond County Georgia, and he is also buried in the RA FRAIN plot at Magnolia Cemetery.

We currently find no record of Sanders Joseph FRAIN, though it is known that Mary V(irginia) MAYFIELD remarried after the death of Walter FRAIN to William PLUNKETT (4 January 1874), and that they resided in Newton County in the area her father lived. It came as another suprise to find Martha Virginia FRAIN listed in another family record.

Sanders Alexander "Saunders" FRAIN was born about 1835 in Ireland.  He died before 17 April 1870 Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, and was buried on 17 April 1870 in the R.A. Frain Plot at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georiga.

Sanders married about 1864 to Mary Ann Boardman STEPHENS, daughter of Edward STEPHENS Elizabeth BOARDMAN.  She was born in 1843, in Liverpool England.  She died before 14 Jan 1875, Outside of city limits of Augusta, Richmond County Georgia.16and is buried with the Johnson Family at Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia.
They had the following children:
 1.  Richard Alexander FRAIN SR
2. Anne FRAIN; Born 4 Jan 1865. Died 1875.
3. Stillborn FRAIN b. bef 13 Nov 1866 d. 13 Nov 1866
Sanders Frain is buried also in an unknown portion of the RA FRAIN plot.  It should be noted that Sanders came into the country through Charleston SC, ended up in Richmond Co., GA, he also petitioned for naturalization with his brother Jacob.  But Mary Boardman STEPHENS upon Sanders death married a man by the name of JOHNSON, and thus is buried in with her second husband in his plot.  We know very little about this family, except that after Sanders died Richard A. Sr. went to live with his uncle Thomas George STEPHENS, when he was around 4 years old.  (This occasioned the marriage of Mary to Mr. JOHNSON.)

John FRAIN was born about 1843 Ireland

John married Annie
According to the 1870 Federal Census in Newton County, there was a John FRAIN who'd married an Annie.  Census records provide no other evidence to this connection in the family tree that was compiled in the 1950's.

Fourth Generation
Martha Virginia "Mattie" FRAIN was born 12 March 1866 Georgia.  She died on  12 March 1957.
Martha married in 1880 to Burton REAGIN born on 19 Feb 1860.  He died on  31 Jan 1928
Currently very little is known about Mattie's descendants.  There are however 2 researchers of the REAGIN family that might be of some assitance to REAGIN researchers.

  8 George Stephens FRAIN
Frances Lucile "Ciele or Lucile" FRAIN;

Sadly none of this history on these members of the family survived the ensuing years.  My mother, never met her grandparents, them having passed on before she was born.  George's siblings, though it is mentioned didn't have much contact with him.  Though they both served interesting Military service during WWI.  George did die of Bone Sarcoma, and though we know very little of the family tree, we keep plugging along.
