9:00-9:15 a.m. Opening

9:25-10:10 Session 1

10:25-11:10 Session 2

11:10-12:15 Lunch

12:25-1:10 Session 3

1:25-2:10 Session 4

4:15-4:30 Closing

 

Den J -Jammin Jaguars

     Day 1

Session 1 = Nature -prepare for nature walk, talk about animal signs, what if you run into a wild animal while walking (bear, mountain lion). Signs of animal sickness, if you meet a strange dog (Wolf Arrow Point Trail 14b,d)            

Session 2 = Skills -maps, types of maps and how to read them (Topographic maps, road maps, Shaded Relief maps, Aeronautical maps) (Bear 23a, b, c, e)          

     Lunch                                   

Session 3 = Crafts - Indian symbols (Wolf Arrow Point Trail 10f)& coyote sticks???                        

Session 4 = Sports/Games -kickball (Bear 15a p109)

Session 5 = BB Safety        

Session 6 = BB Range   

     Day 2

Session 1 = Nature -nature walk, find signs of animals (placed by Nature Staff member)-snake skin, birds nest, various bones, animal tracks, etc. What a tree looks like that has been damaged by a porcupine. Passed around poison ivy incased in plastic (Wolf Arrow Point Trail 18g).             

Session 2 = Skills -        

     Lunch                                   

Session 3 = Crafts -made sun dials, game        

Session 4 = BB Range                          

Session 5 = Archery Safety (Bear 20a)        

Session 6 = Archery Range   

 

 

     Day 3

Session 1 = Nature -Prints & Tracks, boys did their fingerprints (Bear 7a), stamped and labeled animal tracks, studied types of clouds (Bear 2e p163) and looked at plaster casts of animal tracks           

Session 2 = Skills -discussed survival skills, what to do when lost, how to test plants for edibility, how to make a solar still, knife safety (Bear 19a, b, d p129), cut plastic tubes, practiced flag folding (Wolf trail 2e).    

     Lunch                                   

Session 3 = Crafts -decorate gourds with animal & insect symbols, horseshoes (Bear 15a p109), teamwork building game stacking coffee cans using elastic ropes.         

Session 4 = BB Range                               

Session 5 = Archery Range

Session 6 = Sports/Games -Frisbee, marbles, bean bag    

     Day 4

Session 1 = Nature -Obstacle Course            

Session 2 = Skills -map & compass (Air Force Academy), boys did Square knot (Bear 22b p144) & watched demonstration of Bowline knot          

Session 3 = BB Range 

Lunch & Family Time -guest speaker (Native American), ice cream, awards to leaders and staff, closing ceremonies.                              

They boys in Den J also played soccer with Mr. Ron our Skills Staff member during a break.

 

Don't forget the Sky Sox game at the end of June.
