At one time Pennsylvania consisted of three counties, Bucks, Chester & Philadelphia. In 1729 land that is now known as Lancaster, Dauphin and Lebanon County separated from Chester County and became known as Lancaster County. Lancaster City was the county seat, and since the land area was so large and travel was so difficult, the inhabitants of what is now Dauphin & Lebanon Counties requested that another county be formed so that they could transact their legal business more easily. In 1785 Dauphin & Lebanon county were separated from Lancaster County and became known as Dauphin County. It was decided that Harris's Ferry (present day Harrisburg) would become the county seat for the newly established Dauphin County. The people in Lebanon County were not at all pleased with this decision because the new county seat was further away from most of the inhabitants than the old county seat. Therefore, a petition signed by JACOB FERNSLER & others was presented to the Pa. General Assembly requesting that a county seat more centrally located be designated. Their request was never granted but in 1813 the Lebanon area became Lebanon County and the town of Lebanon was made the county seat.

Place: Port of Philadelphia, ship "Pleasant."
Note: GEORG HEINRICH PETER lived in the Hilsbach-Weiler area of Germany. GEORG HEINRICH was confirmed in the Hilsbach-Weiler Reformed Church in 1727 when he was 14 years old. GEORG HEINRICH emigrated from Germany with his brother Ulrich Peter on the ship "Pleasant" in 1732 when he was 19 years old. The ship sailed from Rotterdam via Deal, England. James Morris was the Master. The voyage must have been a rough one because out of the 57 men listed as passengers 14 were listed as being sick!
GEORG HEINRICH and ANNA MARGARETHA both came to Lancaster Co. Several of their children were baptized at the First Reformed Church in Lancaster, Pa.
By 1741 the records at the Hill Church, Cleona, Pa. indicate that GEORGE and ANNA were now residing in Lebanon County. In 1741 GEORG HEINR. PETER was listed as one of the heads of the Lutheran families who brought children to Rev. John Caspar Stoever to be baptized. He was listed in both the Lutheran and Reformed records of the Hill Church, Annville. HENRY PETER appears on the Lebanon Twp. tax lists for 1755 and 1759. He was named Overseer of the Poor in 1770 in Lebanon Twp.
His will is filed in the Dauphin Co. Court House, Harrisburg, Pa. He leaves his wife furniture, the Bible and a cow, the house and garden. The remainder of the estate was to be sold and divided among his children.
