Title: PA German Pioneers by Strassburger & Hinke
Immigration: Date: SEP 1740
Place: ship - Samuel and Elizabeth
Note: Various spellings of the name are Snoke, Snook, Schnug, Shnug, Schnock, Snock.
JOHAN THEIS SCHNUG was born in Germany and came to America aboard the ship "Samuel & Elizabeth," which arrived in the port of Philadelphia 30 Sep 1740 (PA German Pioneers by Strassburger and Hinke). Apparently he was accompanied by his wife and several small children. (The ship's passenger list mentions just males over 17 years of age.) Christian must have been born aboard the ship. JOHAN THEIS settled in the town of Palmyra, Lebanon Co., (at the time he settled there it was Lancaster Co., it then became Dauphin Co. and later, in 1813, it was known as Lebanon Co.) He applied for a land warrant for 150 acres in Lebanon Twp., Lancaster Co. on 26 Jan 1749. He and his family attended the Bindnagle Church in that area.
On the internet researchers have listed that he was first married to Catherine Elizabeth Schall, Anna Cathrine Heylman or Anna Catherine Bergner. Which is it?
In his will (Dauphin Co.) he mentions his second wife Catharine, a step daughter, his two sons - Christian and JOHN and other "beloved children" - not named.
JOHAN THEIS died at the age of 83 and is buried in the Bindnagle Church Cemetery.
