Note: CATHARINE and GEORGE SNOKE were married about 1820 when CATHARINE was 19 years old and GEORGE was 32. They lived in North Annville Twp. near Steelstown. GEORGE was a farmer and a carpet weaver.
In the Federal Census of 1850 GEORGE is listed as a Labourer and the value of his real estate owned was $600. Their daughter Elizabeth lived next door with Benjamin and Sarah Alleman. Another daughter Susanna also lived with neighbors, Henry and Lydia Frank. Both of these families were living on farms. In 1860 he was still listed as a Laborer with real estate valued at $928. & personal estate owned at $150.
Apparently GEORGE was the black-sheep of the family. GEORGE'S father's will was written when GEORGE was 20 years old. For some unknown reason GEORGE was not mentioned in the will. (Dauphin CoCH Will C-93-3). GEORGE outlived most of his childless brothers and sisters and in 1852 (when he was 64 years old) he ended up with his father's property. (LebCCH Orphans Court F16, F649, C508 & Aug term 1852). GEORGE then sold the property to his son David (LebCCH Deed M 289).
When GEORGE died, the Bindnagle Ch. recorded "GEORGE SNOKE, sick about a week, leaves 12 children, 3 sons & 9 daughters. 76 years. 2 Jan 1864." His Will is filed at the LebCCH (5-182). In the Will he leaves his entire estate to his wife Catharine "during her natural life or so long as she remains my widow and immidiately(sic) after the death of my said wife Catharine or her widowhood which ever may first happen It is my will that the whole of my estate real and personal shall be sold to the best advantage and the proceeds thereof shall be divided Share and Share alike among all my children."
GEORGE'S inventory (LebCCH-A302) includes Wagon $12., Hay Ladders $1., Carriage $18., Sleigh Bells $3., Spinning weel $1.50, 1 watch $2.50 & some farm implements, for a total of
$416.60. "Articles left for the use of the widow at her request as directed by the will of said deceased" included - 4 cows $35., wind mill $1., Flax Brake 25~, grinding stone $1., Bedstead $4., stove & pipe $2., barrels & staves $2., 1 chest $1., Cabbage Cutter & Cupboard $1.25, Copper Kettle & Wool Wheel $2., tables, chairs & benches $2. The total value was $122.50.

CATHARINE FERNSLER was listed as a Communicant at the Bindnagle Ch., Palmyra, during the years of 1816-1820.
At CATHARINE'S death the Bindnagle Ch. recorded "CATHARINE wife of GEORGE SNOKE, died on Saturday. Old age & consumption. Mother of 13 children of whom 12 survive. 64 years & 28 days. 18Feb1865"
