Note: JOHN emigrated from Germany with his mother and father sometime before 1731. He grew up on the family farm near Strasburg, along the Pequea Creek, Lancaster Co., Pa. When he was an adult he moved to a 115 acre farm on the west side of Middle Creek in Warwick (now Clay) Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa. A Warrant was obtained for the property 16 Mar 1747 (#427). It wasn't until 22 Sep 1762 that a survey was made(C76-210) and a patent was received (AA5-473) on 16 Feb 1764.
He died at a very young age leaving a widow and six minor children. CATHERINE managed to raise the six children and also keep the farm.
John died intestate (without a will), so in 1762, when the oldest son, Lawrence, was 23 years old, he petitioned the court in Lancaster to permit him to purchase his father's farm. The court appointed twelve men to appraise the property and determine whether the farm could be divided among the 6 children or if it would be better if it were kept in one parcel and sold to Lawrence. The Orphans Court decided that JOHN'S land could not be divided equally, so it was deeded to Lawrence. The farm was appraised at 312 pounds. Lawrence was to give his brothers and sisters their share of the value of the land within 12 months. Their shares amounted to 2/3 of the valuation divided among the 6 children, with Lawrence, since he was the oldest son, receiving a double share. This came to 29 pounds 14 shillings & 3 pence for each of the five children and 59 pounds 8 shillings & 6 pence for Lawrence. Lawrence was also ordered to keep 104 pounds to enable him to pay his mother, CATHERINE, 6 pounds yearly for the rest of her life in lieu of her dower third. (By Pennsylvania law, when there was no Will the widow received 1/3 of the estate and children received 2/3.) When CATHERINE died in 1777 her 104 pounds was divided among the 6 children.

Title: Kallstadt Church Parish Register, Germany
Confirmation: Date: 1683
Place: Kallstadt Church, Germany

Note: LORENZ was born in Kallstadt, Germany and was confirmed at the age of 14 in the Reformed Church in that town.
LORENTZ came to America with his wife and three children sometime before 1731. They are found for the first time in Pa. in Rev. John Casper Stoever's "Records of Pastoral Acts at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Holland, Lancaster Co., Pa." LORENTZ and MARIA ELIZABETH were sponsors at the baptizisms of five children.
LORENTZ and his family first settled near New Holland, and in 1735 purchased 100 acres of land in Lampeter Twp. It was 1 mile north of Strasburg and extended from the Pequea Creek north to the Rockvale Road. Present day Bowman Road runs north and south down the center of the tract.
As a member of Heller's Reformed Church, in Upper Leacock Twp., LORENTZ agreed to help with the support of the minister. "The Reformed Congregation of the Berg Kirch promises to contribute annually to a minister's fixed salary if one is sent to them ----8 pounds and 25 bushel of oats. 16 Feb 1740: LORENTZ HERCHELROTH, Michael Albert, Michael Weidler and Johri Leyn."
When LORENTZ died in 1744 his Will stated that his oldest son John Heinrich should receive all of LORENTZ'S property. In turn John Heinrich must pay Valentine and JOHN 12 pounds each out of the estate.
Conrad Weiser had a hand in executing LORENTZ'S Will (Will-W-135-1744) and he saw to it that the Will was recorded in Philadelphia instead of Lancaster Co.. Many people did not trust the new courts in Lancaster to conduct their business, preferring the older Philadelphia court.
